Snowball Express XI was a great success as we welcomed nearly 1800 children and families of our fallen military heroes to Dallas for a week full of activities!
Beginning with the arrival of our generously donated charter flights by presenting sponsor American Airlines with all volunteer flight crews from all over the country, the families were taken by Greyhound motor coach and Patriot Guard escort to our host hotel, the Hilton Anatole Dallas. The hotel was filled with activities in the Teen and children lounges, and in the Gallo family lounge for the adults.
Day one began with our police and patriot guard escort to Fort Worth, completely shutting down highway 30 with a 48 school bus precession. Firefighters from Arlington lined the overpasses to wave and salute our families!
After arriving in Fort Worth, the annual Walk of Gratitude was held at the famous Fort Worth Stock Yards. The families were then treated to the Pawnee Bill Wild West Show at the Cowtown Coliseum. From there our families were taken to the Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base for a private concert by Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band in a Hangar on base. Gary put on a great show as always for the families and then handed out teddy bears for all the children. Food was provided by Texas Land and Cattle, and prepared with the help of Chef Robert Irvine.
Day 2 included a fun day at four separate game centers around DFW. That evening everyone enjoyed a great dinner and entertainment at Medieval Times Show & Dinner.
The third day included our annual Talent Showcase presented by the Texas Music Project, followed by another amazing closing show by our Chief Fun Officer, David Hira.

This year at the Calgary Stampede "the greatest outdoor show on earth," the Express team of Clydesdale horses beat out their rivals from Anheuser-Busch for the best 8 horse drawn team.
They weigh as much as a full size car so I wanted a shot that illustrates their massive size. It was their shadow that gave me the shot I was looking for.
"The Clydesdale is a breed of draft horse derived from the very hard-working farm horses of Clydesdale, Scotland, and named for that region. Thought to be over 300 years old, the breed was extensively used for pulling heavy loads in rural, industrial and urban settings, their common use extending into the 1960s when they were still a familiar sight pulling the carts of milk and vegetable vendors."

★WHAT IS THE DREAM ROCKET PROJECT?
The Dream Rocket Team is collecting nearly 8,000 artworks from participants around the globe. The artwork will be assembled together to create a massive cover in which will wrap a 37 story Saturn V Moon Rocket at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. We will also be displaying submitted artwork in dozens of national venues prior to the wrapping of the Saturn V. Additionally, we are posting images of submitted artwork & their stories on our Website, Flickr, and Facebook.The Dream Rocket project uses the Saturn V Moon Rocket as a symbolism of universal values of the human spirit. Optimism, hope,
caring for our natural resources, scientific exploration, and harnessing technological advancements for a better quality of life while safeguarding our communities, are all common desires across national and international boundaries. Participants are able to express and learn about these values through this creative collaboration. With the completion of each artwork, participants are asked to write an essay explaining their artwork, and the dream theme in which they chose.
★How can I Participate & Have my Artwork Displayed?
The Dream Rocket project would like to challenge you to ‘Dare to Dream’. To dream about your future and the future of our world through dream themes such as health, community, conservation, science, technology, space, peace, and so on. We would like you to use your selected Dream Theme to express, explore, and create your vision on your section of the wrap. We hope that you are able to express and learn through this creative collaboration. With the completion of each artwork, you are asked to write a brief essay explaining your artwork, and the dream theme in which you chose.

MEDITERRANEAN SEA (June 8, 2011) Firefighters aboard USS Stephen W. Groves (FFG 29) conduct a fire drill exercise on the flight deck of Groves as a part of Phoenix Express 2011 (PE-11), June 7. Heather and I got a kick out of this parked bus... Absolutely nothing about this bus looked express or deluxe.
We hung around the Clock hoping the rain would stop. When it didn't, we decided to go to the Mezzanine for dinner. The restaurant was empty except for 4-5 staff. They had a happy hour on drinks until 8:30pm so Heather and I each ordered a Beaufort beer (quite enjoyable). We then enjoyed olive tapenade, seafood briouates, chicken caesar salad and a quail pastilla. All was excellent and the service was great.
We then hobbled as quickly as possible back to our riad in the rain.
