Céret is a French city located in the department of the Pyrenees Orientales, in the Occitania region. It is the capital of the Vallespir region. It is popularly known as "cherry capital", for its important production of this fruit.

Céret is located at the foot of the Pyrenees. Its municipal term is divided between the mountainous area and the Roussillon plain, which explains that its altitude varies between 175 and 1400 m. It is located 200 km from Montpellier, 250 km from Toulouse and 180 km from Barcelona, and is crossed by the Tech River.

The commune of Céret borders Oms, Vivès, Saint-Jean-Pla-de-Corts, Maureillas-las-Illas, Massanet de Cabrenys and Reynès.

Céret is famous for its Museum of Modern Art, which houses numerous paintings and sculptures by Picasso, as well as paintings by many other impressionist artists. Café Pablo is dedicated to Picasso, and Le Grand Café, which still exists, was a meeting place for many famous artists of the first half of the 20th century.

Also noteworthy are the Font-Frède, the hermitage of Saint-Ferréol, the Archeology Museum, the Devil's Bridge ("Pont du Diable", 14th century), the Capuchin convent, the gates of France and Spain, two castles , the church of Saint-Pierre, whose bell tower dates from the eleventh century.

Seen in Huddersfield just as I was leaving is a really poor shot of some shat. This means, apparently (from Wiki) , Locals know it as "Shat", which appears to be an abbreviation of "Shatterers" which is what the locals were known as. Local labour was taken on during construction of the railway to break or 'shatter' rocks as well as work on the excavations. These unskilled labourers were referred to as Shatterers.[3] The Doctor Who actress Jodie Whittaker has explained the origins of the term and referred to herself as a "Shat lass".[4]

These pictures took some patience because the squirrels did not seem to know (or care) what I wanted them to do.

They were at first very reluctant to even approach the origami model and when they did; they had a tendency to knock over their little friend. They also stole his peanut a number of times.

They did provide me with a few cute pictures and they sure eat a lot of peanuts in that time too.

The origami itself is an old model I had partially folded a while back and forgot about.

I think it was going to be Michel Lafosse's model but I just finished it on my own, which explains the untidiness of it.

Today will be my weekly semi-formal day so I will do a double upload for my two different takes on this outfit. To reiterate what I have explained before, my goal with these semi-formal outfits is to be dressed nicely in at least a shirt and neckwear all day. If I do not work, I can still be nicely dressed but with more comfortable items of clothing such as jeans and oxfords that would be more appropriate for a day spent doing chores and relaxing, but still dressed in something proper.

Today the weather is bad so the first thing I have done is necktie myself with this cozy and comfortable sweater. Instead of jeans, which is my plan with my semi-formal outfits, I am going to stick with trousers and my usual high heels because shortly I will go to the bakery and purchase some bread and buns. Once I get home I will make myself breakfast and coffee, followed by checking my morning emails and catching up on the news.

After that I will tidy up my breakfast mess and do some general chores around the house, then watch a documentary on tv if I have the time. I have noticed that I tend to slouch sometimes when I eat or watch tv normally, but even having on a semi-formal outfit helps me sit more ladylike and I have come to appreciate that I have that encouragement to better my posture even when I am not wearing fully formal clothing. To me it is just one of those matters of personal pride to act with a higher standard for no other reason than self-respect. If I can achieve that with a comfortable sweater in addition to a nice collar and tie then all the better.

Before work today I will stop for lunch at my parents' house. I will change my outfit slightly for that by exchanging my sweater for my jacket. I like how these semi-formal outfits will be so versatile that I can simply change jeans for a skirt or a sweater for a jacket and I go from simply looking nice and proper to being dressed appropriately for work.

I have discussed expanding my wardrobe to more formal outfits in the future, but I also intend to expand it into this style as well. For now I will dress like this once a week, but I hope to increase that in the future as my schedule permits.

The track "Maze" is taken from the sampler album "A Week or Two in the Real World" (2007). With the voices of Mari Boine Persen and Liu Sola. Listen & Enjoy it.

"Nature is my God, my guide and correction," BOINE explains. "Nature is the mirror of what is inside all of us. Without the connection to nature I would be lost."

Listening to her music is very much like listening to nature itself, something we'd be well advised to do more of.

BOINE was born in Karasjohka, a small town in the Arctic regions of Norway that are also part of what is known as Samiland, named after the indigenous people whose blood she shares. The Samis were colonised by Christians, and their culture slowly eroded until it was dismissed as worthless, so BOINE became acutely aware of notions of conformity early on. Her music has always been fiercely proud of her heritage, seeking to celebrate Sami culture while bringing it to a wider audience, fired initially by her anger at the contemporary treatment of their traditions.

But though she has not mellowed in her beliefs, convictions so strong that she refused to perform at the Lillehammer Winter Olympics in 1994 on the grounds that she did not want to be used as "an exotic decoration", she has always sought new ways to integrate her ideology into her work. Her blend of Sami folk traditions -- in particular the yoik -- with contemporary rock, jazz, electronica and other musical forms sourced from around the planet has made her a revered figure at home and abroad. From the release of her second album, Gula Gula (from 1989), on Peter Gabriel's Real World label, to 2007's collection of remixes by such acclaimed artists as Mental Overdrive and The Knife, her international status has been unquestionable.

Her songs are strongly rooted in her experience of being in a despised minority. Most of her songs are sung in Sami, speaks directly of 'discrimination and hate'. Her other songs are more positive, singing of the beauty and wildness of Sapmi (Lapland).

She sings in a traditional folk style, using the yodelling 'yoik' voice, with a range of accompanying instruments and percussion.

BOINE continue to push back boundaries, challenging listeners with bold musical initiatives and a rejection of expectations, all the time enchanting and invigorating her audience with her unearthly, haunting voice. And while the fact that she trades in a sound inspired by her cultural roots, sung largely in the language of her ancestors -- a language being slowly eroded by Western influences -- has led to her being classified as a 'world music' artist, her horizons are much greater and her appeal more far reaching than this might suggest. It is, as she herself suggests, "global music from the universal heart."

In a world that seems to spin increasingly fast, where shrinking borders are leading to the mass homogenisation of culture instead of enriching it, BOINE'S voice -- pure, worldly-wise and yet otherworldly -- is more vital than ever. Listening to her music is very much like listening to nature itself, something we'd be well advised to do more of.

Biography:

Mari Boine was born on November 8th 1956 in Gámehisnjárga by Karasjok. Educated teacher from the Regional College in Alta. Full-time musician since 1985. Her debut album Jaskatvuoda manna came in 1985, her breakthrough came in 1989 with Gula Gula .

Music can touch on strings you might not know you had. It can provide meaning, but it can also create moments which can't be defined. Moments which go to your core, that touch some sort of primal instinct, and that put you in a trancelike condition. Music can confuse you. But it can also make you feel happy, uplifted or enriched. And maybe even more whole.

Mari Boines music has this effect. You can't leave a meeting with Mari and her music untouched. That is, if you dare to let her get close. Her music is actually simple. It is in the meeting between the songs, her voice and the musicians in the band that it gains strength. And in the interaction with the listener, because you must meet Maris music with an open mind. If you dont give of yourself, you might not discover the wealth she has to offer.

Because Mari is exceptional. She is an artist who is difficult to categorize. Perhaps she's a Sámi artist, perhaps she's a practitioner of world music. Perhaps she makes music in the borderline between Sámi, other folk music, jazz and rock. Perhaps she's the sum of all this. Or perhaps she's just herself. A musician, singer and artist who's making her own mark. Who has gone down a road where she hasn't always seen the destination. And who is still travelling.

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

( EXPLORED!!! ) There is a personal story related to why I chose this title which I may explain later. This is Brush Park ( with the exception of the sky, which is from Warren ) . Most of these homes were built between 1891 and 1930. All are unique and different from each other ( not to mention quite large ). These homes have been forgotten about for the majority of the last 30 years, falling into ruin. They are slowly being renovated and the 7 or 8 they've finished look really nice. For more on the history of this area, and it's current redevelopment, please go to : www.metrotimes.com/editorial/story.asp?id=1141

This one sadly has since been demolished. :(

Joined the group Paint the Moon - Let;s Do 52 to keep me focused on taking and uploading a pic a week. The theme this week is "Simplicity", alternative theme is "Game On".

If i have to explain it then i have missed the theme for the week. Lol

Thanks for the comments and visits and hope you are having a great weekend.

Elsie is explaining to me why it is I am not a good pupil in her school (never mind that I'm the only one who is not either an animal or doll). This was taken not long before my camera was confiscated!

So like last time, I will do a explanation of what happens in the story. Also if you want to check out the previous story in this universe, (Batman: Reflection) the is an album that you can check out. Anyways, here we go.

1: Unhinged

So this photo shows what Batman has been doing after the events of Reflection, he goes on a murderous rampage and kills all of his enemies.

2: Memories

Again like the last one, this is just to clarify that batman is going insane and killing everybody. Also the grin adds to the madness that he is into.

3: Decision

So when Batman is done killing everyone, he moves onto the people that care about him most. Gordon is on the GCPD building and Batman swings down and aims his gun at him. He is torn between killing him or not. I really didn't show the result of this, but I came up with the conclusion that Gordon was shot and killed.

4: Alone

So after Batman kills Gordon, he reflects on his past and who he has killed and if killing is the right thing. But his madness still is growing rapidly and he snaps out and heads to Wayne Manor

5: Home

So I'd say that Batman has been away from Wayne Manor and the Batcave for about 4 months. So Alfred is shocked to see Bruce with a gun that is aimed at him, Batman walks down the stairs to the Batcave...

6: Confrontation

So after killing Alfred, Bruce brings the limp body into the batcave and sees Robin standing by the Jason memorial. Robin turns to see Batman, and they fight. After a while, Robin grabs the gun and points it at Bruce's head. Robin sees a man of craziness and madness in the suit; Joker. Robin is dealt with the same decision that Bruce was with Gordon; To kill him or not. Robin grip tightens...

7: Silence

Robin shoots Batman and crys over his dead body, losing a mentor and friend. In the reflection of the Jason memorial, Joker is seen gazing down onto Robin...his next victim.

So I hope you guys enjoyed this mini series and like this abstract story style. I think I'm not going to continue it because of how this ended, but time will tell.

Thanks guys for support,

We took Wiggins to St Ives yesterday afternoon, as the morning rain gave way to some welcome sunshine. Wiggins got excited when he saw Porthgwidden Beach deserted and ready for play time, sadly we had to explain to him that the summer season dog ban came into force at Easter and he was not allowed on the beach. It's a dog's life!

Photography friends on a Detroit Downtown Photo shoot.

I don't really like the movie Alice in Wonderland, (I think it has been subverted by hippies and I hate hippies), but I really like a lot of the characters from the movie. I think the movie's fatal flaw is that it's too dependent upon sensory 'captivation' and uses that as a crutch for a weak story (which may explain why the hippies like it, so they can smoke their reefer cigarettes and stare at the cool color swirls!).

The White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, Alice, Cheshire Cat, Tweedles, and Queen of Hearts are all great characters. Too bad there isn't a better storytelling vehicle to really allow these characters to shine. Then the movie would be a true classic.

Straight from another universe, the opulence of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst's castle can't be described or even comprehended. Here's a tidbit from Wikipedia explaining what Hearst was up to once the drawbridge was raised for the night:

Invitations to Hearst Castle were highly coveted during its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s. The Hollywood and political elite often visited, usually flying into the estate's airfield or taking a private Hearst-owned train car from Los Angeles.

Charlie Chaplin, Cary Grant, the Marx Brothers, Charles Lindbergh, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, James Stewart, Bob Hope, Calvin Coolidge, Franklin Roosevelt, Dolores Del Rio, and Winston Churchill were among Hearst's A-list guests.

While guests were expected to attend the formal dinners each evening, they were normally left to their own devices during the day while Hearst directed his business affairs. Since "the Ranch" had so many facilities, guests were rarely at a loss for things to do. The estate's theater usually screened films from Hearst's own movie studio, Cosmopolitan Productions.

Hearst Castle was the inspiration for the "Xanadu" mansion of the 1941 Orson Welles film Citizen Kane, a fictionalization of William Randolph Hearst's career. Hearst Castle was not used as a location for the film, which used Oheka Castle in New York. Commercial filming is rare at Hearst Castle and most requests are turned down.

Since the property was donated to the state of California only two projects have been granted permission: Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus, which used the castle to stand in as Crassus' villa; and Lady Gaga's music video for "G.U.Y."

From now on I will host "Lot No.402_".

The work of Leonardo da Vinci who was sleeping.

That is the number when it was put up for auction.

No sign was written on the work.

So this work couldn't conclude that it was his work.

However # as a result of various appraisals # it was exposed to the sun.

A work that no one notices. A work that speaks quietly without a title.

I will continue to strive to provide it to many people in various ways.

Main story

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Ever wonder about the orange triangle on the subway walls? It's a marker for how far the rear guard should keep watching the platform with his head out the window as the train exits the station

~ Feel free to follow Lars & Leopolds Blog ~

Captured with a manual Nikkor 50 mm ƒ1:1.2 on my Nikon Df, post processed in Lightroom using the new VSCO Film Pack 05.

I was pleasantly surprised when Heather stopped and agreed to let me take her picture today. I was only surprised because the weather wasn't really conducive to being stopped on the street by a random stranger with a dog who asked to take your picture.

She was very gracious about it. But as she started to "smile for the camera", I had to ask (and explain) my "no smile rule". Her response was appreciated. "Oh, thank God! I have to smile ALL DAY at work, so I really didn't feel like smiling now."

I knew I was requesting that for a reason. I just have to find the right people.

Richard Billington was the duty signaller and was good enough to explain some of the workings of the box to me even though I had roused him from a moment resting his eyes in the chair between trains with my gentle knock on the window at the top of the stairs.

In 1969 the station site was acquired by the Somerset Education Authority and then sold in 1995 to the former Wansdyke District Council, who in turn leased it to the Somerset & Dorset Railway Heritage Trust (S&DRHT) in 1996. Since then the S&DRHT has restored the station buildings and platforms and converted the goods shed into a workshop, whilst the former stable block at the rear of the goods yard has been converted into a museum. The track has been relayed at the station and the line is being extended southwards towards Chilcompton (extension towards Radstock is hampered by the lack of a bridge over Silver Street). The Type 2 signal-box has been recreated on its original site, including the re-use of the original stonework reclaimed from the demolished base; it houses a 26-lever Stevens & Sons lever-frame (recovered from the former L&SWR SB at Branksome), which is longer than the original in order to cater for the more extensive signaling now required for current-day operations. The new SB was commissioned in March 2016 (50 years after the closure of its predecessor) and there is now operational signaling once again at Midsomer Norton.

The Amazing Perito Moreno Glacier.

WOW WOW WOW WOW is a line I remember saying upon arriving at this amazing glacier. The Blue colour of it's ice is breathtaking. Our Guide explained that we were quite lucky to have cloud because the blue loses some of it's magnificent colour in bright sunshine. This was actually the first time on this trip that the word "cloud cover" sounded good. As the day went on the sun disappeared even more behind the clouds making the glacier's striking blue stand out even more.

The Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia is the only Glacier in the world that grows continually, up to 450 metres a year.

The Perito Moreno Glacier can be found in the Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina. The park was founded in 1945 and consists of 13 Glaciers, an area which is 4,500 km. In 1981 both the glaciers and the national park were named to the UNESCO list of World Natural Heritage Sites.

The Perito Moreno Glacier, pictured above, was named after it's discoverer. He was an Argentinean Geographer and Anthropologist named Pascasio Perito Moreno.

The Patagonian Ice Field covers the greater part of the Los Glaciares National Park and is one of the biggest in the world, second only to the Antarctic Ice Cap. The Patagonian Ice Field consists of a total area of 4,459km, a length of 350km and a width of 50 km at it's widest point. It originates in the north of the national park on the slopes of the Fitzroy Massif at a height of only 1,500 metres. The 3 main tributaries of the main glaciers, the Perito-Moreno, Uppsala and Viedma (which we also visited) all end at approximately 1,300 metres above sea level. The melted water has formed enormous lakes which have an amazing turquoise colour, from which the edges of the glacier rise like giant icebergs.

The Icy Giant rises as much as 60 metres above the water's surface but the majority of the glacier lies below the water's surface at a depth of 130 metres. We took a boat ride along the glacier's front and just could not describe in words how enormous and impressive this beauty of nature truly is. Large pieces of fractured ice frequently breaks off the edge of the glacier. However, Perito Moreno is the only glacier in the entire world which continues to advance rather than retreat.

I was very fortunate to happen upon the Peucetia viridans, the green lynx spider moulting one evening this summer. Here's a wonderful write up The Silk Road did on the photos explaining what goes on.

The Silk Road (by Tone Killick)

The actual process of shedding an exoskeleton - called ecdysis - is very tricky for spiders. First they grow the new exoskeleton inside of the old one. The new exoskeleton is chemically the same stuff as the old one, but it is not hardened yet and indeed is wrinkled like having a large t-shirt on underneath a snug sweater. With the new exoskeleton complete, the spider dissolves the living tissue between the old and new skeletons, leaving only nerve connections to the sensory organs - touch-sensitive hairs, eyes, and chemical sensory organs (taste and smell) located on the outside of the body. One day, the spider will hang from a thread on the it's web or under a leaf, disconnect those sensory organs, and pop the top on its cephalothorax (the body part with all the legs). The body usually slides out easily, but then, the legs must follow. It is not unusual for spiders, especially large females, to get stuck. The chemical changes involved in hardening off the new exoskeleton start as the old skin is shed. Spiders not infrequently die as their long legs harden and stick before they can be completely withdrawn from the old exoskeleton. To preserve flexibility of the joints, recently-moulted spiders engage in stretching and flexing their legs in very standard sequences that are marvellous to watch.

At the Coffee Stand explaining is afoot. Or a hand. Or something...

iPhone Camera+ app shot post processed on a Mac in Photos, Tonality and Noiseless.

The corset ...

Really hard to explain ... He 's inspired by an antique corset and sewn in the same Dupioni silk as the skirt but completely covered with the most airy parts of Mechlin lace used for the skirt.

The side parts of the mesh were embroidered with fine thread. The front panel is silk brocade embroidered by hand and edged all around with gold bullion metal thread. The false front lacing passes through small metal beads. The straps close with two small flat buttons hidden inside. Both chiffon bows adorn and hide this fasteners. Of course, the real lacing is in the back thanks to mini gold eyelets.

Juneteenth was just recently signed into a national holiday, but it has been around a while. It commemorates when Union Army General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, TX on June 19, 1865 and brought enforcement of the Proclamation that had been signed 3 years prior, but was being ignored.
