I saw pics of the UCS imperial shuttle, and got mega exited over this head, because it doesn't have a twisted mouth, I was going to buy this set just for the head! I looked for the figure on Bricklink, and pictures show him with just a regular twisted mouth head. I look in the heads section, to see this head doesn't appear to exist. Is this a prototype head? I really want it! but it doesn't seem to exist. I looked for reviews of the set on youtube, but due to crap video quality, I can't tell what headpiece is on this fig. On the box, it shows him with the not twisted mouth, can someone explain this to me?

Think about it first, what is your guess? Likely you already had a gender

in mind....Well if you expected we're having a *BOY*, you're wrong!! We're

having a girl! :) We had the long ultrasound appointment yesterday, and we

visited with my doctor today so she could explain everything to us. At

first the technician could not determine the gender because the baby was

sitting down sort of indian-style, so she had me get up and touch my toes 3

times. After that both she and the doctor were certain that it's a girl.

The ultrasound was the coolest experience ever! I feel so blessed that we

have moving pictures now to actually see the baby moving around. The tech

who performed our ultrasound, Joy, was an expert, she's been doing it for

30+ years. She said when she started they didn't even have moving pictures!

We got to see the baby moving her mouth in the drinking motion, so cute! We

saw all the bones of the arms, legs, fingers & toes. Everything appears to

be perfectly healthy with the spine, kidneys, heart, head & stomach. They

gave us a perfect report! Also, this confirmed that we have the lowest

chance of all that our baby has Down's syndrome.

The only thing that they said they're going to monitor, is a very slight

risk of growth depression due to the odd placement of the umbilical cord on

the placenta. My doctor assured me that it's not statistically proven at

all because she's seen plenty of baby's with this issue that are enormous.

But since our baby's umbilical cord connects to the edge of the placenta

(rather than somewhere toward the middle), theoretically she could have

trouble getting all the nutrients and growing. However, she said so far our

baby's even a little bit ahead so the ultrasound showed us having a due

date of Dec 27th, rather than the 30th, so we'll see! It's actually kind of

cool though because this means we get to do another ultrasound in 9 weeks,

when normally we wouldn't! I'm really excited to see the baby when she's

that big.

I attached a picture that has our 2 favorite pictures from the ultrasound.

You can see her cute profile with nose & lips (whose do they look like?!),

and the other one is looking directly at her face and she's smiling! I also

attached pictures of me in our new apartment! We moved last month to an

apartment in Chinatown and we're really enjoying it. Who wants to come

visit?!

With love,

Giulian, Christy & baby girl

PS: We're still mulling around with names, but we're not telling anyone

till she's born! :D

Well it's mid September 2020. The Age of Wonders has yet to arrive, with a new, later theatrical debut every time I look at the website. But, the merchandise seems to be on schedule, namely the S.H. Figuarts WW84 Wonder Woman figure.

WW84 takes place in 1984, and takes place before Justice League. While I know continuity has been an issue with the DCEU movies, there's a few things I hope this movie will explain... of course it could just be me that cares about these things. Gal Gadot returns as the lead character, with an interesting supporting cast including Chris Pine, who needs to regale audiences with the story as to why he's not dead.

Contents of the WW84 package are... kind of slim for the price point of 6,600 Yen. You get the figure, two face plates (eyes forwards, eyes to the right), an empty Lasso of Truth holster, six additional posing hands, and an uncoiled mid motion Lasso of Truth. This time around, she apparently has no sword or shield (which I believe were smashed to bits in the previous movie). On a related note, she also has no leather bandolier this time around either. The coiled Lasso of Truth is now a single piece along with actual holster. which helps displaying the figure with no Lasso in hand.

Lets get the obvious out of the way. In the event it wasn't obvious, Tamashii Nations effectively recycled the previous body and slapped on a new head. The colours were tweaked (most likely due to movie costume changes) and the side by side photos should give good indication of that. Skin tone was darkened because, well, Gal Gadot has a complexion.. or the guy in charge of that sort thing wasn't blind this time around.

With regards to the head, it should be readily apparent that Tamashii Nations tried much, much, much harder to this time to actually get that Gal Gadot accuracy. It's not perfect, most notable being the eyes front sculpt seems to have issues with regards to paint location for the pupils, but its definitely recognizable as Gadot, and a hell of an improvement over the first one.

How anyone could possibly mistake that one for Gal Gadot is something that probably needs an entire Netflix series to explain.

The aforementioned issues with eyes front sculpt seem to be a widespread QC issue, so overall the eyes right sculpt is definitely the better of the two, and works better with her hair anyway.

In addition to getting the right image for the digital painting, Tamashii Nations updated the actual shape of the face, and her hair/wig, replicating her half front/half back look from many of the promotional photos, and also allows Gadot/Wonder Woman to showcase her strong jawline. Detailing on the hair itself is finer as well.

So now that her face and hair are more accurate, there's one more improvement to discuss before leaving this section. One of my pet peeves about the first release was that there was no thought given as to how the head would turn, as that section of hair that goes over the right should had no give. It also got in the way of the shoulder movement.

Tamashii Nations fixed this by adding in the hair, which allows the hair to move out of the way for turning, and will yield in the event the shoulder is moved. It's a bit clunky, but it does work. Maybe they'll do something to fix the back hair the next time.

Moving on to our usual overview criteria, articulation points are plentiful. You get goes, ankles with tilt and pivot, double jointed knees, hips with thigh swivel and displaced joints to allow for greater range of motion, waist, mid-torso, shoulders with chest collapse, single jointed elbows, wrists, neck and head.

Due to lack of bulk in the arms, the single jointed elbows appear to sufficient for posing purposes. The back of her head unfortunately does get in the way of tilting her head back, so no flying poses or tilting the head up. You can do a nice variety of action poses, including her trademark Bracers pose, but's she's no Revoltech. Furthermore, you really just have the Lasso as a weapon (and it's not even the spinning one like the Hot Toys has) so generally speaking rope tricks is about as exotic as you're going to get on the figure.

Paint work is excellent, with no observable bleeds between colours or overspray. Details on the face itself are great, and honestly just keep me excited for improvements we'll see next time around (in a good way). The only messy paint apps are basically invisible - they're on the edges of armour that expose flesh bits. I also mentioned the issues with the location of pupils on the eyes front sculpt.

All in all, pupil location aside, only the most anal retentive will find something to complain about paint wise on this figure.

Finally, with regards to build quality, everything is in order for a figure of this price point. Limbs are the same length and joints operate as designed. Finishes on the parts themselves are very good, with the usual Figuarts level of seam polishing. The only beef I have is that the front hair section likes to come off on mine a bit to easily. Other than that, everything holds together as expected.

It's amazing what a "simple" head change can do for a figure - it's almost like a brand new thing when in reality, it's effectively the same. This new head. even with its somewhat wonky articulation, this is undoubtedly the best Gal Gadot Wonder Woman figure at this size.

She looks the part, and now, can actually utilize the full posing capabilities of the body. I just wish she had more gear to pose with.

There has been no news about a Golden Armour version of her being released... on the other hand, this wouldn't be the first time a winged figure was released, so there's hope it can and will happen.

I guess we'll have to wait till December to (hopefully) find out.

March 21, 2020- Albany, NY- Governor Andrew Cuomo holds a press briefing on Coronavirus, explains working on increasing hospital capacity, building new beds, and increasing medical supplies (Darren McGee- Office of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo)

His Solitude With Us

"But when He was alone…the twelve asked Him about the parable." [Mark 4:10]

When God gets us alone through suffering, heartbreak, temptation, disappointment, sickness, or by thwarted desires, a broken friendship, or a new friendship— when He gets us absolutely alone, and we are totally speechless, unable to ask even one question, then He begins to teach us. Notice Jesus Christ’s training of the Twelve. It was the disciples, not the crowd outside, who were confused. His disciples constantly asked Him questions, and He constantly explained things to them, but they didn’t understand until after they received the Holy Spirit (see John 14:26). As you journey with God, the only thing He intends to be clear is the way He deals with your soul. The sorrows and difficulties in the lives of others will be absolutely confusing to you. We think we understand another person’s struggle until God reveals the same shortcomings in our lives. There are vast areas of stubbornness and ignorance the Holy Spirit has to reveal in each of us, but it can only be done when Jesus gets us alone. Are we alone with Him now? Or are we more concerned with our own ideas, friendships, and cares for our bodies? Jesus cannot teach us anything until we quiet all our intellectual questions and get alone with Him. Hallelujah, God bless

That megainfographic history was planned to be published in parts. EL MUNDO MAGAZINE Art Director, Rodrigo Sánchez, falled in love with the idea and we did it. During eight weeks, EL MAGAZINE published one part of the poster, one each week, the reader should save the weekly sheet and finally assemble all. It was a big success, a lot of readers call our department to request more copies of the poster.

No matter where I am or what I'm doing, I have this constant need to photograph it. I am forever looking at everything around me as if there was a permanent viewfinder attached to my eyes. And I don't ever want to go back to walking around blindly not really seeing. Every and any thing...

I guess when it comes to my passion for photography and for a lack of a better phrase (or image, hehe) to explain that, let me just say...

I don't want to get caught with me proverbial pants down without my camera.

And for further explaination... see here. And here... ;)

I hadn't been able to take out the M4 and 35mm Nikkor in awhile, so brought it with me on several occasions. Was trying to focus on the pictures in my mind rather than what was in front of me, basically to construct things differently. I had seen a number of flickeranians who really impressed me with their work where I could feel what they were doing, from images in Los Angeles to the tri-state area to South East Asia. I keep trying and thank those who keep inspiring!

52:19 [And they will be told:] “Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do,

كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ (52:19)

At-Tur (The Mount)

52:20 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!” [7] And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. [8]

مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَى سُرُرٍ مَّصْفُوفَةٍ وَزَوَّجْنَاهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ (52:20)

At-Tur (The Mount)

52:21 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [9] [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. [10]

At-Tur (The Mount)

52:22 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire:

وَأَمْدَدْنَاهُم بِفَاكِهَةٍ وَلَحْمٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ (52:22)

At-Tur (The Mount)

52:23 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. [11]

يَتَنَازَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا لَّا لَغْوٌ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٌ (52:23)

At-Tur (The Mount)

52:24 And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [12] [as if they were children] of their own, [13] [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells.

وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٌ لَّهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌ مَّكْنُونٌ (52:24)

At-Tur (The Mount)

52:25 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. [14]

وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءلُونَ 52:26 They will say: “Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God’s displeasure]: [15]

قَالُوا إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِي أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ (52:26)

At-Tur (The Mount)

52:27 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration].

فَمَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَانَا عَذَابَ السَّمُومِ (52:27)

At-Tur (The Mount)

52:28 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] [16] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!”

إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْبَرُّ الرَّحِيمُ (52:28)

At-Tur (The Mount)

52:29 EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer’s grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman.

فَذَكِّرْ فَمَا أَنتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍ (52:29)

At-Tur (The Mount)

52:30 Or do they say, “[He is but] a poet - let us wait what time will do unto him”? [17]

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٌ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِ رَيْبَ الْمَنُونِ (52:30)

At-Tur (The Mount)

52:31 Say thou: “Wait, [then,] hopefully; behold, I, too, shall hopefully wait with you!” [18]

I already sent my answers to Emily for this, but for your edification:

Which holidays do you celebrate, if any? I celebrate (or at least in some way, acknowledge) them all. I have children (my expectation that this statement should explain everything probably says a great deal about me). I love Christmas, but clearly the most celebrated holiday in my household is my birthday and the 7 days leading up to it, or, as it is known locally, “Novakkah”, but that’s in May so probably irrelevant for this occasion.

What is your favorite holiday tradition? We go and cut down our tree as a family and decorate it together, I love pulling out our ornaments and decorating the tree (we collect ornaments). Also, on Christmas we make “Christmas Curry” everyone chops something, it’s quite festive (and delicious).

For New Year's, are you a party animal or quiet night at home type? My children require their parents to be somewhere in the near vicinity while they are sleeping, so we generally stay home. We still ring in the New Year with something festive though, but usually K falls asleep around 11 and I am usually awake all by myself, that’s how we live, on the edge.

What drives you banana hammocks about the holidays? 1) You know those people that get really carried away with the holiday directions? Particularly the ones that inflate things?…. Sometimes it’s just too much. 2) People drive eleventy bajillion times worse during the holiday season, it’s a proven fact. 3) The thing that bothers me most is how the countdown to Christmas (and I do love is so, the holiday not the countdown) begins the day before Halloween. Target is all decked out for Christmas and it’s showing a total disregard for Thanksgiving, in my humble opinion. I just realized yesterday that Thanksgiving is next week, surely someone could have capitalized on that consumerist opportunity this year.

What's your "comfort" when getting "t

hrough" the holiday season? I am that person that turns on the radio station that plays Christmas songs 24/7 after Thanksgiving. I love finding new Christmas music that doesn’t suck. Also, I drink a lot of cider during the holidays—if it’s hard cider, all the better.

Holiday foods you like. I am an equal opportunity eater, really, so I pretty much like it all. I like nougat, and that seems to be especially popular around the holidays. I actually like fruitcake during the holidays as well, so long as it is done well. And well, you know, cookies, they are a big holiday thing. We make a lot of cookies during the holidays, so therefore we eat a lot of them.

Holiday foods you despise. Fruitcake, when it is done poorly. While I am a meat eater (mmmm bacon) I do not eat organ meat, during the holidays or otherwise, because, well, no (I realize that this may be superfluous, but I have no idea, maybe someone out there is really into dehydrating meat or something).

Foods you can't eat (allergies, etc.). I am lactose intolerant, but thanks to the power of lactase enzymes, this isn’t a huge deal, but I would happily consume non-dairy deliciousness as opposed to something that I’d have to take a pill to eat.

Favorite yarn(s)? Yes, all of them. Like most, I prefer natural fibers. I heart wool, of course. I am involved in passionate affairs with yarns made by Mad Tosh (all of them), Colinette (Jitterbug), and Koigu.

On the other hand: I don’t love variegation, but if it’s done right, I could easily be persuaded to infatuation. I am allergic to possum (I discovered this knitting with a yarn made out of possum, so totally relevant), and angora makes me sneezy, too.

Crafty pursuits - knit, crochet, spin, sew, quilt, any of these or others? Yes. I knit, crochet, spin, sew, quilt, weave, and embroider. I also dye roving, I have a shop but I am not really a self-promoter, to be honest.

Hobbies/pursuits/proclivities/passions. Aside from the fiber-y pursuits, I like to cook, love to bake, I am also interested in photography, I just enrolled in a program for that, because clearly, I need less sleep than I already get.

What do you do in life? A lot. Professionally, I am a college archivist, records manager and assistant special collections librarian. You are probably thinking that I don’t get paid enough, and you’d be right. Personally, I am a mom to two boys—Little Sir and Little Mister— and wife to one—K (in case you were confused, you know, “Sister Wives” and all that).

Random favorites My favorite TV shows of all time were Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies, when they went off the air, I might have cried a little. I watch a lot of TV while a do other stuff, but less than I used to. I love to drink decaf tea and sit back with a good book. I like seeking out new literature and new authors (that would be the librarian in me). I love finding out about new and intriguing books for kids, particularly for boys, because, well my Littles are quite boyish. I have recently entered into a “fascination with bread” phase. I am obsessed with it and want to bake all kinds of bread for my belleh.

Other stuff- I have just moved to a new house. And while happy and exciting, I did not expect to be doing the whole moving house thing during the holidays, so I am a little stressed out about moving (in phases on our own, because holy Hannah, the pro movers wanted an arm, a leg and our third born child to move us). Also, my mother in law is coming to visit two weeks before Christmas, and that’s not going to be helpful at all, but I digress, I have just moved into a new house.

I love my Keurig and like to try the decaf K-Cup options, Newman’s Own is still my favorite thus far. I just got an espresso maker that takes pods, and it’s the bee’s knees.

Who Must Fast?

Fasting is compulsory for those who are mentally and physically fit,

past the age of puberty, in a settledsituation (not traveling), and

are sure fasting is unlikely to cause real physical or mental injury.

Exemptions from Fasting(some exemptions are optional)

*. Children under the age ofpuberty (Young children are encouraged to

fast asmuch as they are able.)

*. People who are mentallyincapacitated or not responsible for their actions

*. The elderly

*. The sick

*. Travelers who are on journeys of more than about fifty miles

*. Pregnant women and nursing mothers

*. Women who are menstruating

*. Those who are temporarily unable to fast must make up the missed

days at another time or feed the poor.

Special Events

*. Special prayers, called taraweeh, are performedafter the daily

nighttime prayer.

*. Lailat ul-Qadr ("Night of Power" or "Night of Destiny") marks the

anniversary of the night on which the Prophet Muhammad first began

receiving revelations from God, through the angel Gabriel. Muslims

believe Lailat ul-Qadr is one of the last odd-numbered nights of

Ramadhan.

Traditional Practices

*. Breaking the daily fast with a drink of water and dates

*. Reading the entire Quranduring Ramadhan

*. Social visits are encouraged.

Eid ul-Fitr ("Festival of Fast-Breaking") Prayers at the End of Ramadhan

*. Eid begins with special morning prayers on the first day of

Shawwal, the month following Ramadhan on the Islamiclunar calendar.

*. It is forbidden to performan optional fast during Eid because it is

a time for relaxation.

*. During Eid Muslims greet each other with the phrase "taqabbalallah

ta'atakum," or "may God accept your deeds" and"Eid Mubarak"

(eed-moo-bar-ak), meaning"blessed Eid."

Ramadhan Questionsand Answers

Q: How did the fast during Ramadhan become obligatory for Muslims?

The revelations from God to the Prophet Muhammadthat would eventually

be compiled as the Quran began during Ramadhan in the year 610, but

the fast of Ramadhan did not become a religious obligation for Muslims

until the year 624. The obligation to fast is explained in the second

chapter of the Quran: "O yewho believe! Fasting is prescribed to you

as it wasprescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn)

self-restraint...Ramadhan isthe (month) in which was sent down the

Quran, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and

judgment (between right and wrong). So everyone of you who is present

(at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting..."

(Chapter 2, verses183 and 185)

Q: What do Muslims believe they gain from fasting?

One of the main benefits of Ramadhan are an increased compassion for

those in need of the necessities of life, a sense of self-purification

and reflection and a renewed focus on spirituality. Muslims also

appreciate the feeling of togethernessshared by family and friends

throughout the month. Perhaps the greatest practical benefit isthe

yearly lesson in self-restraint and disciplinethat can carry forward

to other aspects of a Muslim'slife such as work and education.

Q: Why does Ramadhan begin on a different day each year?

Because Ramadhan is a lunar month, it begins about eleven days earlier

each year. Throughout a Muslim's lifetime, Ramadhan will fall both

during winter months, when the days are short, and summer months, when

the days are long and the fast is more difficult. In this way, the

difficulty of the fast is evenly distributed between Muslims living in

the northern and southernhemispheres.

Q: What is Lailat ul-Qadr?

Lailat ul-Qadr ("Night of Power") marks the anniversary of the night

on which the Prophet Muhammad first began receiving revelations from

God, through the angel Gabriel. An entire chapter in the Quran deals

with this night: "We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night

of Power: and what will explain to thee what the Night of Power is?

The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. Therein come down

the angels and the Spirit by God's permission, on everyerrand.

Peace!...This until the rise of morn." (Chapter 97) Muslims believe

Lailat ul-Qadr is one of the last odd-numbered nights of Ramadhan.

Q: Is it difficult to perform the fast in America?

In many ways, fasting in American society is easier than fasting in

areas where the climate is extremely hot. This year atleast, the

number of daylight hours will be less than when Ramadhan occurs during

the spring orsummer. In Muslim countries, most people are observing

the fast, so there are fewer temptations such as luncheon meetings,

daytime celebrations and offers of food from friends.....

Mia explains why it is so much fun to be in Ms. Cephus' class. "She is always funny, but you learn a lot!"

I thought this box was interesting. I have no idea what it's for, or why it says "explain" on it.

cologne - 25.01.2013

I cannot really explain what had driven me to play around with masking, filters and blurring. Maybe I saw an example somewhere. Maybe I remembered a dialog with a friend a few days ago, about my only Tilt-Shift picture I ever made of Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna. Whatever, today I went to the LVR Tower after work, bought a ticket for the lift, closed my jacket and went up the platform. I can tell you, it was fucking cold up there! Everybody in Cologne knows about the political issue regarding the LVR Tower and the cathedral. You must know that Cologne is very Catholic, and when they planed the tower, they had a conflict with the church, but also with UNESCO about the status of the cathedral as a world cultural heritage. I think that’s the reason why Cologne looks like a giant village, even after 2000 years. Thanks my dear cathedral!

A talk on Barcode Wales - Beyond the Visible for Chongqing Two River Volunteer Service Development Centre - a local NGO, dedicated to environmental action through education, community projects and citizen science.

I start with some background on DNA barcoding and the Barcode Wales project and Andrea continues with an explanation about her artwork and the Barcode Wales - Beyond the Visible exhibition. We then discuss the links between the art and the science.

Andrea's photographs illustrate some of the plant species DNA barcoded as part of the Barcode Wales project. She takes a different approach to her subjects. Instead of photographs that look 'at' the world around us, she wants us to be part of that landscape and involved with it. Instead of 'pictures of plants' she asks us to imagine being part of their world, like a bee foraging through their habitat. Her photographs give equal value to all plants not just the rare or conventionally beautiful.

Below the photographs is a visual representation of the plants DNA barcode. The Barcode Wales project is also about giving value to every plant species and its DNA barcode allows us to understand their habitats in new ways. The name of the species is not given on the photographs, instead the DNA barcode represents the signature of the species, as it is the DNA code locked up in every cell of the plant's body. The DNA barcode visualisations use the actual rbcL DNA barcode of the species with the A,G,C,Ts of the DNA bases each having a different colour and shape. The shapes are the Morse code for that letter. The visualisations were designed by Col Ford who wrote a software script to generate the visualisations from the Barcode Wales database. The Barcode Wales - Beyond the Visible exhibition is a collaboration between art, science and software engineering.

explaining the use of the fishtrap

For the first time, a community Christmas tree has gone up in Ballyholme Village with the help of a group brought together by the Revd Jan Stevenson.

Jan explains: “In my role as Community Pastor for Ballyholme Parish, I’ve been visiting the businesses in the village offering support during these really difficult times. In the course of my conversations, I discovered a longstanding community hope that a Christmas tree could be put up in ‘The Village’.

“I began to pull a group together but putting up a community tree turned out to be a complicated matter, that is until we spoke to the local hairdressing salon owner! Michael Conroy also wanted a tree to go up and because he owns the land outside his shop we were able to make it happen.”

On a very blowy 4 December, the tree lights were switched on by two families – the Brittains and the Skellys – who were chosen by the local primary school. The ceremony was unannounced so as not to attract a crowd, however an invited group of local church, school and business–people all came along despite the poor weather. The RNLI, for whom the village is raising funds, was represented by Kevin Byers and Mark Johnston.

Ballyholme Primary and the local pre–schools have decorated the tree with laminated drawings of baubles and teddy bears, some of which are also hanging in the windows of businesses in the village.

Not only has Ballyholme Village finally got its tree but the small community group has also launched a Christmas at Holme Facebook page to keep everyone up to date with festive events, news and fundraising in the village.

Congratulations to the organising committee, Mel Martin, Caroline Gillan, the Revd Jan Stevenson, Louise Scott Heatley and Michael and Tracey Conroy

I did this diagram in 2002 to get my head around all the players and politics in the interactive television business.

A patrolman explains his motorcycle to a curious onlooker during an educational fair at the Brentwood Mall in the 1960s. Formed in 1958, the Department of Highways Traffic Patrol was responsible for traffic control on five major lower mainland bridges – First Narrows (Lions Gate), Second Narrows (Ironworkers Memorial), Oak Street Bridge, George Massey Tunnel, Port Mann Bridge and all their approaches.

During the 1950s, British Columbia was undergoing an incredible post war boom. New highways infrastructure projects (bridges and freeways) were being built at a rapid pace, automobiles were everywhere, and cell phones and the internet were light years away. Motorists often needed help at the roadside and the Department of Highways Traffic Patrol was there to help.

“No reason explains war”

From the 10th to the 13th November, our socio-cultural partners and friends in the AfroReggae Band from Rio de Janeiro, will be in and around the state of São Paulo to launch their latest show, “No reason explains war”. Formed by youth from the infamous shanties of Rio de Janeiro, the AfroReggae Band has been an important inspiration and motivation for the actions of our own youth group and especially the Beija-Flor Band.

São Paulo was chosen by the group for the launching and tour of their latest show, which will be passing through the cultural centres of SESC Pompéia (10/11), SESC Bauru (11/11), SESC Ribeirão Preto (12/11) and SESC Itaquera (13/11). The images in this series are from the show at SESC Pompéia. The relationship between AfroReggae and the SESC of São Paulo began in 2001 and extends further than just their circuit of shows and cultural presentations. This year, the choice by AfroReggae to realize the premier viewing of their prize-winning film Favela Rising, in São Paulo at the SESC Pinheiros, was no mere coincidence, not to mention all the other social, cultural and artistic activities already realized in partnership with the group.

The show coincides with the launching of their latest CD at the end of November. The CD, “No reason explains war”, unites 10 songs – most of which are unpublished – composed by diverse members of AfroReggae in partnership with some of the grand names in Popular Brazilian Music, such as Arnaldo Antunes, Nando Reis, Jorge Mautner, Nelson Jacobina and Liminha, besides a new version of Caetano Veloso e Gilberto Gil’s music “Haiti”. With their unique sonority in the track titled “No reason explains war”, AfroReggae also counts on the special participation of the English Rappers, TY and Estelle.

The performances in São Paulo – directed by José Junior e Johayne Hidelfonso – brings us songs from the new álbum like "Negro Affairs", "I only want you" and “Another Chance”, besides great successes from their first album, like "I’m annoyed" and "Front Cover". Also acclaimed songs such as “Let’s Escape”, by Gilberto Gil and Liminha, “Fly In My Soup” by Raul Seixas, and “What country is This” by Renato Russo, are in the selection.

The AfroReggae Band surfaced in 1995, as a result of the dance and percussion workshops that were held by the NGO in the Vigário Geral Shanty. During the São Paulo tour, the band is made up of Ando (vocals); LG (vocals); Dinho (vocals); Altair Martins (percussion); Dada (percussion); Wallace (percussion); Juninho (percussion); Jairo Cliff (bass guitar); Joel Dias (guitar); Magic Julio (DJ); Cosme (drums); Maílson (keyboards) and Mariana Rangel (backing vocals).

With the passing of time, AfroReggae has also changed and gained new dimensions, increasing the sounds of the drums, bass and guitar. The presence of a DJ put final touches on the songs being composed by the band. In 1998, the first International invitiation delivered AfroReggae to Europe and in 2001 the banda launched their first album called “New Face”.
