Well I never expected this shot to work ,firstly because, on the journey here there was very dark and heavy clouds and secondly the angle of the sun being too high. As it turned out both came together and I managed to get this just as I had envisaged it for a long time.

Expect a dinosaur approaching any moment...

After two hours of waiting I hear a gentle rustling of dry leaves and then here she comes out of the woods.

The scene will repeat itself punctually for several evenings.

Dopo due ore di attesa sento un delicato rumore di foglie secche e poi eccola uscire dal bosco.

La scena si ripeterà per alcune sere.

Foggy all day, but I went out for a walk anyway... nearly got run over!

We can expect some more aurora borealis in the next few days. Although weather forecast predicts cloudy skies, I am still hoping for for the best. So perhaps there will be reason to turn the lens toward the sky :)

Latham's Snipe (Gallinago hardwickii)

I needed to get out for a walk this morning so decided to head for Skeleton Creek. I went via the Federation Trail Bicycle Path and glad I did. This Snipe was on the western bank of the creek, as I was and I hadn't seen it until it flew across the creek to the eastern bank. Thankfully I chose to take a shot from a great distance (this image has been very heavily cropped) before moving upstream hoping to get a better angle and closer shot. I got the one shot before it flew into the long grass a bit behind where it is here. But at last I have a shot of a Latham's Snipe on the ground - having been trying for years to achieve this result at the Heathdale Glen Orden Wetlands and failing. I have not seen Snipe along Skeleton Creek before. They arrive from Japan (where they breed during the northern hemisphere Spring/Summer) during our Spring and return during our Autumn.

Were you expecting an exploding pen?

We don't really go in for that anymore.

Because darkroom paper is orthochromatic, the colour response isn't what you might expect - the petals of this sunflower are actually yellow and the background should be black ...

Behind very non sexy name (Auto Sears) of the lens is hidden Rikenon (Tomioka?) 55mm f1.4. It may be a Tomioka lens, but my first impressions are that it is sharper than any other 55mm f1.4 I have. Bokeh is the one we expect.

The man at the bottom of this shot was my subject, I was following him and had some half decent shots when suddenly another man came crashing down the wave. The inevitable happened a split second later, I got the shot, but it was never so dramatic as this one.

The entire perimeter of this property is lined with fence posts topped with bird houses.

Had a lovely morning ambling around the Flamborough coves, (accessible only because the tide was out).

As expected it was cold and windy on the top by the lighthouse but once we walked down the steps and onto the beach it was sheltered from the wind.

A third visit here, all very different but I've loved each one.

It was a day of meandering, discovering a baby seal on the beach (which made my day) and experimenting with a photography sphere.

It wasn't as easy as I expected and it's still a bit 'alien' to me, but also kind of cool.

They expect me to take part in the annual Lunar Festival, as if it's an easy feat to step into the spotlight without a moment’s rest. Yet no time is given to rehearse, no space offered to prepare — only expectations piled high like moonlight on snow. So here I am, practicing in secret, hidden away in quiet corners, stealing moments just to make sure I don't embarrass myself when the curtain rises.

More than a splash from the incoming tide, at least the water is warm.

another stunning sunrise at my favourite location.

While visiting Key West we were expecting the sun, the old buildings, sadly, and the hurricane destruction. What we did not expect was the color- not the color of the sky, the buildings or even the culture (although...), rather it was the color of the huge iguanadons that stalk the tourists like something our of Jurassic Park. Apparently these guys came to the islands as stow-aways sometime in the near past and now they are like rats on the island, they are everywhere! I read up on it when we saw how many there were. Some like them, after all, they only eat plants, not trash or humans. Others hate them because they eat plants and not trash or humans. They come in all varieties, sizes and colors. As you can see in this image takes on Fort Zachary Taylor, the color really stands out. I contrasted this big guy on the bricks to show his real colorful nature. Zoomed way back and shot wide open to showcase the island plant rat. They have no fear of people because the people feed them. I was glad they were there, usually basking like so many other over sun-tanned natives in the area. Enjoy!

Alamosa, CO - One of the great things about the Monte Vista Sandhill Crane Festival is that there are also many other things to see and photograph in the area. This male Great Horned Owl was guarding the nest while his mate sat on her eggs ...

A mother sea otter cracks open a mussel's shell prior to handing it to her eager and not very patient pup. She is also balancing more mussels on her stomach as she floats along on her back.

We were able to observe this behavior many times as the otters were feeding near a small bridge at the entrance to Jetty Road off Highway 1 in Moss Landing, California. Mom would dive down and gather the mussels. The pup would call out and swim close to its mother expecting a handout and fussing if dinner did not come quick enough. It would then swim away and eat happily, only to repeat the process over and over again.

Best when viewed large.

Thanks for your comments and views! They are greatly appreciated! Have a great week ahead!

This one is about to share it's beauty with the world.

Seacrest Park Cove. Seattle, WA.

So, the least likely thing I expected for this project has, in fact, happened. I finished. It took 15 months - two dead cameras, one stolen, and various life events conspired to draw this out. Whatever.

I learned a little about photography, and I learned a lot about paying attention. This last was my primary goal, and I'm satisfied that I came away with a heightened awareness of the world around me. And in the course of it all, I managed to take a few self-portraits I don't actually hate :-)

But mostly, I've learned about you. I've met people from all over the world, seen their art, tasted their culture, and experienced their generosity and friendship. I can't possibly express how meaningful this year has been to me.

Thank you, all of you, for the comments, encouragement, suggestions and laughter. For caring.

I'll be spending my flickr time in the near future catching up with your streams. I have so much yet to see, and I want to see it all! :-)

You send me,

Preston

Yes, it's true, we spent a bit more time at this location. And we were actually very lucky with the train traffic. We managed to get several shots of the popular class EL21, locomotives by LEW Hennigsdorf ex GDR. The light improved with every minute.

Architecture one might expect to see in the Alpine region of Europe at Bang Pa-In Royal Palace.

Wikipedia: Bang Pa-In Royal Palace, also known as the Summer Palace, is a palace complex formerly used by the Thai kings.

King Prasat Thong constructed the original complex  in 1632, but it fell into disuse and became overgrown in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, until King Mongkut began to restore the site in the mid-19th century. Most of the present buildings were constructed between 1872 and 1889 by King Chulalongkorn.
