Holly Village, built in around 1860, is in Highgate, North London. It consists of just 12 cottages and was created by Baroness Angela Burdett-Coutts, one of the wealthiest women in Victorian England, second only to Queen Victoria.
Aided by the novelist Charles Dickens and architect Henry Darbishire, the Baroness set up this village using striking gothic architecture. These properties are all Grade II* listed.
Although it was believed that these houses were built as homes for former estate workers or retired Coutts Bank employees, evidence shows these were home to people from the professional middle classes.

Trying new things with this photo and I think it succeeded with my expectations. Nothing is perfect since there is always room to improvise. No matter how long you've been doing something, you always learn something new ;)
The townhouse takes it’s name from the stay of King Charles II on the eve of the Restoration and is made up of two medieval buildings which were combined in the late 16th or early 17th century to create a mansion house just outside the south east corner of the city wall.
It is also the Satis House of Dickens’ “Great Expectations”, the home of Miss Havisham.
The house is privately owned and lived in, so it is only open to the public 2 days a week.

We're all waiting for something, but we just don't know what, yet.
Each time I sense movement, my head jerks up automatically. Each time a door opens, a person speaks, someone walks by, or there's a sudden sound - I respond immediately. And each and every time, I feel an immense wave of disappointment. I don't know exactly what, or who I was waiting for, or expecting; I do know that what actually caused the disturbance wasn't what I wanted.
It's a little like an automated switch, something that triggers off expectations that I didn't even know I had.
All I know is that I'm waiting, for something.
You do it too, don't you?
We all do, but most of us don't admit it. That is because it isn't plausible to be waiting for something that might not even exist; something that might not even happen.
But isn't waiting for the unknown better than waiting for nothing?
I had come in hopes of a misty pond. I got that and an amazingly colorful sky.
My favorite vantage points from 5 years ago are all overgrown. Which means I have to work harder and think about comps here - not a bad thing, really.
had a family day out at the zoo yesterday and having switched to the four thirds 18-180mm lens for family portraits we stumbled onto a flying display , this perigrine fly past was shot with that lens I'm extremely pleased for a lens that cost me just over £100

Ol Pejeta Nature Conservancy

White Rhino at Ol Pejeta Nature Conservancy in Kenya. I was privileged to be able to see two of the Northern white rhinos before their extinction. Another image in first comment section.
On December 20th, 2009, four of the world’s last remaining seven northern white rhinos arrived at Ol Pejeta. Najin, Fatu, Sudan and Suni had been living in Dvur Kralove Zoo in the Czech Republic. All previous breeding attempts in the Zoo had been futile, and the hope was that the climate and rich grasslands of Ol Pejeta, a native habitat for the animals, would provide them with more favourable breeding conditions.
To keep the northern white rhinos safe and in good health, Ol Pejeta dedicated 24hr armed security, a 700-acre enclosure, and a nutritious diet supplemented with fresh vegetables. Expectations were raised when Suni was seen mating with Najin in 2012, but as the gestation period of 16 months wore on, it was clear that Najin was not pregnant. With so few northern whites remaining, it was decided that a southern white male would be introduced to Fatu and Najin in the hope of producing offspring that would at least preserve some of the northern white genes. Again, this proved unsuccessful.

Dealing with that i was lied to is easy, but dealing with that i wasn't worth the truth much less so...
Well, I had high expectations for the eclipse. It was much better than I expected.
I went to Idaho, in the center of the path of totality and watched day turn into night. I logged 21F temp drop, and it was magical. 360 degree sunrise, eerie calm feeling.
No wonder the ancient people made such a big deal out of this. Best experience ever, so glad i came down for it.

I had not planned to do a stack when I photographed the squills in the garden. But then I saw that not one of the 4 photos taken met my expectations. I tried to use Focus Projects 4 to get a more satisfactory result. Here it is, composed from the 4 shots.
One of the places I most looked forward to seeing (and photographing!) in the southwest was the view of Mesa Arch at sunrise in Canyonlands National Park. Like most locations in the southwest, it blew away my expectations, and I was additionally lucky to see this stunning sunrise. It was an emotional morning, as I had learned late the night before that a dear friend had passed. Watching the sunrise illuminate the ancient canyons in the distance, and finally illuminate the arch, seemed so right while I processed the loss.
