This is a photograph from the 26th Anniversary running of the South O'Hanlon 5KM Road Race which was held at Seneschalstown G.A.A Club, Beauparc/Kentstown, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland on Wednesday 3rd July 2013 at 20:00. South O'Hanlon AC have again organised one of the best value races of it's kind in the country and maintain the very high standard set by other races in the Meath Road Racing Calendar. Congratulations are extended to all at South O'Hanlon, the local community, and other Meath athletics clubs, which made this another very successful night. The club provides prizes in a very wide range of categories and there was a very large spread of refreshments afterwards in the GAA clubhouse. The well known Seneschalstown G.A.A club provide the facilities for registration, showers, and after-race activities.

This route was first run in 2010 and hasn't changed since. The race starts about 1KM from the race HQ at the lovely setting of Beauparc Railway Crossing on the old Navan-Drogheda railway line (race start here goo.gl/maps/SVWWY). The race proceeds in an anti-clockwise left handed loop, following the L1600, and passing the GAA grounds before taking a left to Dollardstown, to Yellow Furze, and bringing runners back to the start area at Beauparc for the final kilometer of the race back to the finish.

Electronic Timing and Event Management were provided on the night by Precision Timing [www.precisiontiming.net/result/racetimer]

Overall Race Summary

Participants: Approximately 300 people took part in tonight's race with runners, joggers, walkers, and families involved.

Weather: A perfect summer's evening with temperatures around 18C. There was a little or no breeze out but this was mostly sheltered from runners around a beautiful country roads course.

Course: This is a fast course. The course is left handed and there are some drags around the 1km to 2.5KM part of the course. The final 1KM runs the same stretch of road as the first KM.

Location Map: Start/finish areaS on Google StreetView and Google Aerial [Start: goo.gl/maps/SVWWY Finish: goo.gl/maps/CSgcU]. The race is easily accessed from the North via Drogheda and other areas via Navan.

Refreshments: As is now the tradition and expectation with Meath Road Races the folks at South O'Hanlon put on a wonderful spread of refreshments for athletes and spectators after the race in the G.A.A club.

How can I get a full resolution copy of these photographs?

All of the photographs here on this Flickr set have a visible watermark embedded in them. All of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available offline, free, at no cost, at full image resolution WITHOUT watermark. We take these photographs as a hobby and as a contribution to the running community in Ireland. Our only "cost" is our request that if you are using these images: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, etc or (2) other websites, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us. This also extends the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a separate wall or blog post with a link to our Flickr page. If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other social media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.

Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.

If you would like to contribute something for your photograph(s)?

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

A romantic series of photos about expectation of love or something of greater

The McCormick Family in the Civil War

"Caught up in the patriotism and the expectation of adventure at the beginning of the Civil War, 23 young men from Springdale volunteered to serve their Country, including the McCormick boys. Word of Springdale's first casualty came early in 1863. Sgt. George McCormick died in battle on January 11 at Arkansas Post, Arkansas. Sgt. McCormick was one of eight men of the 83rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment who fell that day while attacking Fort Hindman.

Six months later, on July 1, the 75th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment assigned to the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 11th Army Corps, was rushed into battle at Blocher's Knoll just north of the Town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The men demonstrated great bravery but the unexpected fallback of General Oliver Howard's troops cut off the 75th from the rest of the brigade. With no support on either flank, they were forced to withdraw under heavy fire. By evening, the Regiment's losses included 16 men killed, 74 wounded and 96 missing. Two of the men killed that day were Pvts. James McCormick and Jim Jackson of Springdale. In less than six months, the McCormick family had lost two sons. James McCormick was buried on the plains of Gettysburg along with his Springdale neighbor, Jim Jackson. Another McCormick brother, Ralph, served in Company K of the 186th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment and survived the war. It is poignant to note that Ralph joined the Army after his two brothers had died in combat.

The McCormick family's tragic sacrifice brought home to Springdale the hard reality of the war. Images of cotillions and parade marches were gone. Ultimately, the veterans came home, many bearing wounds that would remain with them the rest of their lives. Thirteen of these brave men, including Ralph McCormick, are buried in the Old St. Mary's Cemetery at the corner of Springfield Pike and Cameron Road."

They are very happy to pose, with great expectation for their dinner.

Earlier this year, US President George Bush announced to all and sundry his expectation of the signing of a peace deal between the Israelis and Palestinians before he leaves office. In the meantime, his administration continues to ignore calls to talk to Hamas who yesterday announced that they would be willing to live in a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders as demanded by the UN. The US not only refuses to sanction Israel for its continued violations of agreements (especially with regard to roadblocks and settlements) while insisting that the Palestinians uphold their end but is also complicit in the illegal and immoral collective punishment meted out to the residents of Gaza.

The fact is the American Government has no interest in securing peace in the middle east because peace is the one thing the Israelis fear beyond all else. For as long as the illusion of an existential threat is perpetrated (and the US continues to act as Israel's mindless enforcer), then the Jewish state has a free hand in dealing with the Arabs. It can ignore all accepted norms of decent, civilised behaviour, can tear up UN resolutions, can appropriate the land of others, can turn Gaza into one huge concentration camp and continue to maim and murder Palestinians at will. A peace agreement would force them to abandon their search for Libensraum at the expense of their neighbours and would force the Jews to face up to the reality that they have behaved in a manner reminiscent of the attrocities perpetrated against them by the Nazis.

I think this bloom looks like its ready to take flight ...

I took this photo at a Kids Safety Event I hosted at work. Police brutality is far too common of a topic these days. There is an almost inherent expectation that has been constructed due to the cases we see from media of mistreatment towards black people by white police.

Unfortunately, the construction of race resulted in a construction of a type of social caste or social hierarchy, in which certain skin tones are held to a higher standard.
