The stillness of the cool morning air stroked our expectation of the soon emerging fireball on the horizon......

Mount Erciyes (Turkish: Erciyes Dağı; derived from the ancient Greek name Ἀργαῖος Argaeos; Latinized as Argaeus by the ancient Romans) is a massive stratovolcano located 25 km to the south of Kayseri in Turkey.

Erciyes is the highest mountain in central Anatolia, located within the ancient region of Cappadocia, with its summit reaching 3,916 metres (12,848 ft). It is considered to be the highest peak of the Anti-Taurus mountain range, a northeastern extension of the Taurus Mountains to the south, and belongs to the Alpide belt in Eurasia.

The volcano is heavily eroded, but may have erupted as recently as 253 BC, as may be depicted on Roman era coins

With the expectation of many of the Red Arrow Merlins and Swifts being withdrawn as new Leyland Nationals took over, I tried to find a few to photograph on 23 April 1981. I did find several but I was obviously having a bad day as regards getting them into focus. MBA 581 approaching St.Paul`s Cathedral is one of the better attempts which doesn`t say much for those yet to be uploaded!

In an expectation of another snowstorm that is suppose to add another 10-20 inches to our 30 inches we got this past weekend I'm warming up with memories of Las Vegas heat... Pic taken in July 2008

I think I must have focused on the bus stop simply because we used to alight from the 23 here to enter into the hallowed portals of Central Station and the delicious expectation of a swift and delightful trip to my Gran's in St Anne's on sea or the annual school holiday to Austria

In expectation of the Springbok service between South Africa and the United Kingdom to be jointly operated by SAA and BOAC, one of their Avro York's landed at Palmietfontein airport on a 'pathfinder' flight in September 1945. The fully fledged service commenced on 10 November 1945.

I was doing a photo shoot of a wonderful family at the Fort Worth Stockyards when their little girl knocked on a gritty door in a dark alley. SB800 high camera left.

These were taken with the expectation that we'd have clear skies for the Milky Way and Perseid shower... obviously that's not what we got... but wait... It got better.

Located this spot while doing my pre-event final scout... kept seeing these towering beauties in the distance and found a way to get back there. We'll be going back!

This is obviously an HDR... it's got that a bit over the top look... But honestly - the sky REALLY looked like that even a bit richer color actually!

I was bicycling home from my class in downtown Toronto, having photographed my previous Stranger, Franklyn, on campus. I had put my camera into my backpack and had no expectation of another Stranger encounter. That is until…

I saw this interesting face from the corner of my eye as I biked past Bridgepoint Active Healthcare (a rehab hospital) on my way home. Of course his big black cowboy hat caught my eye as he sat in a wheelchair outside the hospital with a bandaged foot elevated. I thought he had a very interesting rugged look to go with the hat.

As I approached him he met me with a “What’s happening, my man?” I climbed off my bike and said “I’ll tell you what’s happening. My name is Jeff and I’m doing an amateur photography project…” (the usual rap) finishing with “I thought you’d make a great subject for my project. What do you say?” He gave a casual “Sounds ok so far” response. I tossed in my offer to send a copy of the best photo and he said “Still sounds ok.” A man of few words. I asked if he had a few minutes and he said “I don’t know. I’m waiting for my Wheel-Trans bus to take me to another hospital for a treatment. I’ve got a vascular problem in my leg.” “That doesn’t sound good” I said and he agreed. “I guess we’d better get this done if your transit is about to arrive.”

I asked if I could wheel him a few meters to have a cleaner background of stairs behind him and he said “Fine.” I made sure he then had his brake on and he did. When I asked if he would mind removing his wrap-around sunglasses he said “Sure.” To my pleasure, he had striking eyes to complete the photogenic look for a good character portrait. I also asked if I could remove the eyeglasses hanging from the neck of his sweatshirt (a distraction) and he said “Sure. Forgot they were there.”

I found out Eric is 65 and is from Newfoundland on Canada’s Atlantic coast. He came to Toronto in the 1960s, like many other Newfoundlanders, looking for employment. He’s done a bit of many things including longshoreman, but said his main occupation was as a roofer until he had to retire. I asked “Isn’t that a pretty dangerous job?” He replied “Second only to being a cop.”

Just then his ride arrived and he was told to get a move on because the vehicle was behind schedule. I helped roll him to the ramp and gave him my card, asking him to email me for a copy of the photo. He said he would. I wished him well with the leg and he wished me the same with my project.

Thank you Eric for participating in 100 Strangers. You are Stranger #510 in Round 6 of my project. I hope your leg gets better and you can return home soon.

Update: I received an email from Eric's health professional saying that Eric had told her about the 100 Strangers encounter and showed her my card. He asked if she could request the photo because either his email wasn't working or he was having trouble with it. I gladly sent it via her and got a nice email telling me what a great photo it was of him and how nice the project photos look. Nice outcome.

Expectation is the root of all heartache.

I've been trying to manage my expectations of myself and others lately. If I keep my expectations realistic, then I don't get so upset when things don't pan out as I'd hoped they would. However, it's a very thin line to walk. Because if I don't allow myself to hope that things could be better than they are, that I can be better than my current situation, that people can be kinder and better than they sometimes appear, then there's really not a whole lot of room left for me to push myself to grow. To improve myself and my surroundings. To take a chance on something. To chase a dream.

And life doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense without hope or dreams.

The magnificent Retablo da Expectación da Santa Virxe (Altar of the Expectation of the Blessed Virgin) is a masterpiece of Galician Baroque art and one of the most outstanding artifacts in the cathedral. It is located in the Capela de San Pedro on the western side of the transept. It was created in 1722 by the master Antonio del Villar from Redondela.

The Virgin is represented pregnant, her hand resting over her womb. The statue of the Virgin dates back to around 1600. The ensemble is flanked by niches with hagiographic representations and medallions with scenes from the history of Salvation, constituting a visual delight for the senses full of historical and symbolic significance.

After the much talked about replacement of AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson due to hearing problems with Guns N Roses lead Axl Rose , 1000's of fans tripped to the home of Manchester City , Etihad Staduim.

Despite excellent reviews sometimes you've just got to see things for yourself , and the opinion afterwards of the departing crowds , pub drinkers , the hotel lobby and even a woman who spotted my tour T - Shirt in Sheffield the next day , was that things were just fine....

But Brian..you are missed...

we enjoyed a night walk after drank only a cup of beer on that day. cityscape was lively. It is a calm atmosphere unlike Shinjuku and Shibuya. I felt friendly feeling to the people of this town. and I felt it to a dog and a cat too.
