I survived 8 years in San Francisco by speaking French with some of the gorgeous ladies on this picture. Some of them lived in the Bay Area for well over 20 years.

I think I started a "mouvement de masse" by leaving San Francisco in 1998. Now there's only one of them left in town, so the wedding was a good excuse to have a reunion! I miss them!

I spent the day chilling out at the Melbourne Royal Botanical Gardens. In my extensive wandering I found a sweet willow tree that was leaning over the pathway. I clicked a few test shots and was blown away by the bokeh. So I lurked around until two lovely ladies walked my way. I asked them if I could take both their pictures (shooting 31 but not her friend felt a bit rude), and confusion ensued. They conferred amongst themselves in a foreign language that sounded closer to japanese than mandarin to my ears. After a moment they where both nods.

They huddled together and I had to explain that I wanted to shoot them separately. Then much to my surprise this lady started the conversation, asking me where I was from. I told her Western Australia and then returned the question to her. She explained that she lives in Melbourne now, but both of them are from South Korea, her friend was here on a holiday. After a few shots I started talking more to her friend, who speaks next to no english.

The bokeh explosion in this shot is due to me using my 100mm macro lens. I spent most of the time in the park shooting flowers and insects and only had the one lens on me. I'm pretty amazed at how it turned out and might use it again in the future. The shot wasn't so great straight out of camera, the highlights are blown and her face looked flat and underexposed. Some recovery work in lightroom and my normal stylistic adjustments in photoshop have turned this into a shot that I quite like.

This is the thirty fourth portrait of my attempt at the 100 strangers project.

"I used to work in Bollywood back in India for 10 years and as an assistant cameraman in 2010 but I lost my job afterwards. Now a salesman in here in Saudi Arabia but after my contract, I would like to build my own business back in my country and work peacefully. I just can't handle the pressure anymore here in Saudi since I'm getting old. Thank you for reading and seeing me." He says.

Today I hit the outdoor market for okra (hard to find in the Netherlands), shrimp (not pictured) and strawberries. I visited the toko to find a few other hard-to-find items, including molasses, creamed corn, sriracha, and baking soda (not pictured). However, as a celebration of Dutch culture, we also picked up a couple of placemats celebrating the upcoming coronation of Willem-Alexander as king and I bought an orange t-shirt to wear on Koninginnedag (Queen's Day).
