ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
"The very existence of national groupsâtheir history, their memory and their futureârests on their members right to life, but scholars sometimes pay too little attention to assaults on the cultural identities of such groups which often precede physical attacks.
âPlundered Cultures, Stolen Heritageââ Concordia Universityâs contribution to Canadaâs year of Holocaust Remembrance leadershipâ begins the task of filling that gap and integrating our knowledge. Leading experts on the experiences of cultural destruction and mass atrocities suffered by the First Nations, Armenian and Jewish peoples are assembling to discuss the motives of the perpetrators of these assaults, their impact,
and the significance these attacks pose for restitution and reconciliation today.
âPlundered Cultures, Stolen Heritageâ opens a key chapter in multidisciplinary human rights studies integrating research on history, cultural studies and the memory of atrocity. Rather than a competition of suffering between groups, it signifies the determination of scholars to learn from the shared experiences of First Nations, Armenian and Jewish groups for the sake of
all groups confronting crimes against humanity and genocides intended to destroy their national existence."
Photos from the Destination Highlight: Aquarium and Crystal Caves Excursion - Thursday May 18th, 2023 - Our first day in Bermuda. These are pictures of the beautiful Gibbs Hill Lighthouse on Bermuda. We were not supposed to stop there, but made a quick visit on our way back to the ship. Here is information on the lighthouse that I borrowed from the site: "The 117-foot lighthouse was built in 1846 of cast iron – the oldest of its kind in the world, and one of only two cast-iron lighthouses still in existence. It overlooks the South Shore and Little Sound, offering views of both the City of Hamilton and the Royal Naval Dockyard." I did not have enough time there to climb the tower - next time. The Excursion description: "Discover Bermuda's architecture, natural wonders, Aquarium, and breathtaking Crystal Caves on this comprehensive journey across the island. Board your bus for a scenic drive around the picturesque Harrington Sound, admiring its beautiful bays and coves. See stunning pink sand beaches and the incredible barrier reef. View the distinct pastel-colored homes of Bermuda. Then, you'll visit Bermuda Aquarium, Museum, & Zoo, where you'll see cockatoos, sea horses, and over 75 different species. Admire the famous pink flamingos. Descend into the incredible Crystal Caves, viewing the natural stalactites and stalagmites." On board the Celebrity Summit for the Ten Night Bermuda & Charleston, SC Cruise (May 15 through May 25, 2023). The cruise embarks from Cape Liberty (Bayonne, NJ) with an additional stop at Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
The fulfillment of the Earth community is to be caught up in the grandeur of existence itself and in admiration of those mysterious powers whence all this has emerged.

A rare treat!! Rocket (the black one) is usually outside, and Yoda usually pounces on him as soon as he comes in!!
These feral animals are said to have come from domestic goats of days gone by. These goats lead a truly wild existence nowadays.

A previous existence as a military parachutist helped Patrick Baty on this project. The 185ft bridge had to be scaled at night, when the trains had stopped running, in order for paint samples to be taken.
See the BBC clip here.
He was able to establish that this famous bridge by Isambard Kingdom Brunel had originally been painted with a white “anti-corrosive” paint containing ground glass. The bridge had been painted twenty times and with a combination of physical and documentary analysis Patrick was able to work out how it looked since it was built in 1859.

Such was the success of my existence-displacement-via-pavement exercise the previous day that, on discovering that certain activities were available for engagement at greater distances than those which "my" foot-pavement-conjunction mechanism would enable me to convert to non-differentiated space within a satisfactorily small number of points in our view of the trajectory of our existence through a temporal axis, I decided to extend the technique to take in further tools made accessible to my seeming consciousness by the office of those previously existing technicians upon whose shoulders all our current expeditionary travails rest, and got on a tube to somewhere. This resulted in yet further success; not only was I successful in terms of getting my me to the place it wanted to go and thus helping it to engage in the activities which that place proffered and in which it had been desirous of engaging, but also of enabling that me to consider the relative degrees of differentiations between the things we consider to be "objects" and hence the nature of that differentiation itself in the context of what my me has been told by books is in fact undifferentiated and impartial. BINGO!
