Over the weekend a teaser photo had been sent to social media from First York regarding Volvo B7RLE Wright Eclipse Urban YJ08 XYB, which was expected to enter service with a new look on November 8. Seen here a day earlier having already entered service, the bus has gained a bright yellow overall advertising livery to promote York's brand new iTravel smartcard system which has been implemented by the city council with money from the Better Bus Area Fund so as to improve accessibility to buses.... for a relatively compact city, York has quite a diverse bus scene with no less than 9 different companies operating regular stagecarriage services in and out of the city - the aim of the smartcard system is for one card to be able to be used on any bus operated by any of these companies in the city. On-street terminals have been installed over the last few weeks and have undergone commissioning ready for the system going live this week.
Originally part of the Park and Ride fleet, this and 69364 were de-branded and initially operated route 13A in a basic silver-only livery but more recently have been dual purpose and operate any route as and when required. Today the 'flying banana' has been on service 11 connecting Bishopthorpe and Ashley Park and is seen here at the Stonebow.

All three Dennis / Plaxton Mini Pointer Dart's have now been delivered to York following a repaint at Thornton Brothers in Ashington for use on a new service starting next week. YJ04 LXN, LXP and LXX were formerly with Lancashire United but new to Keighley and District. These Darts will operate new routes 22 and 23, branded as the Little Explorers; the routes combine York's Cathedral Connection 142 / 143 with Harrogate's 56 route to travel all the way from York to Knaresborough and Harrogate via Ripon (except for a couple of early morning and late afternoon journeys which will be shortened X22 and X23 services running along the A59).
Seen here at the depot alongside one of the Citysightseeing Leyland Olympian Alexander RH open topper G336 CSG which could be withdrawn by the end of the year, as three will be after arrival of Dennis Trident Plaxton Presidents converted to open top and electric traction - a recent change is that Y668DRA will be one allocated here. If necessary, I could see 665 also helping out on this route until it is withdrawn and sold later this year.
The darts are being hidden away at the back of the yard so as to hide the full livery until the service starts... On paper the service commences on May 29th, however this is a sunday and the service doesn't run on sundays. I don't know what the plan is for the 30th as it is a bank holiday, however if a saturday timetable is adopted then these will be out and about - otherwise their first day will be Tuesday May 31st.

Following on from last week when I caught 49905 on camera, here's 49904 on a road run. All-electric Optare Versa EV YJ14 BHK (formerly YD63 VCT) is on a road test both for monitoring the vehicle and for driver familiarisation. The destination equipment hasn't been programmed as it isn't needed yet. It is running the Monks Cross route, and was one of two Versa's out and about... I didn't spot the other one. I had spotted this on Peasholme Green at about 1.30pm but wasn't quick enough with the camera; it didn't show up at the depot so I tracked it back along the Monks Cross P&R route. I have been told these buses will be used on this route in 2-3 weeks time (presumably in service, but not confirmed as such) - and it's worth noting that an electric vehicle charging point is now in operation at the Monks Cross park and ride site.

One of the first Hybrid buses to be permanently allocated to York, LK58 ECW is a Wright Gemini 2HEV 10.4m integral double decker bus (based on VDL (DAF) DB300 Hybrid Technology components, but Wrights chassis) due to operate in York after a refurbishment following their retirement from London (Ex Travel for London TfL), former WNH class... they have been given the new firstgroup standard Olympia livery, so could theoretically see use on any First route in York - but will initially work the number 4 service. These utilise Siemens ELFA traction components, with energy having originally been provided by a Ford Puma 2.4 litre diesel engine - this has been removed and replaced by a Cummins unit in the refurbishment which has extended the rear overhang of the bus slightly. The last bus still outstanding is ironically the first bus of this type ever built - it was due on the weekend of April 5/6, but is still nowhere to be seen almost a month later. 39002 is here at Heslington Field Lane on its very first day of passenger cayying service in its new home - following a road test yesterday, it is now on route 4 to the University of York and then on to the city centre, Foxwood, and Acomb. This was the only Hybrid out today, the rest were confined to depot. It's worth noting the bus wasn't causing that massive queue of traffic - Green Dykes Lane currently has no access to/from Hull Road and so Field lane is the only access to the University from Hull Road and beyond - however the council has done nothing about the traffic lights at the junction of Field Lane and Lakeside was to help ease the traffic, instead they were only staying on green for traffic on this direction for 10 seconds average (19 seconds absolute maximum)
so sorry for the mistake im a little under the weather with a bad tummy bug and was exhasted when setting up soooo missed my typo. i wish i could make 52 options but only 5 atm! if anyone feels ripped off or bad about the situation please contact myself or my managers <3

New to the York Pullman fleet for 2017 is ex-London Volvo B7TL Wright Eclipse Gemini 1 new to Go-Ahead London General as LF52 ZRP (WVL 33) and now re-registered to NXI 4241, one of 15 to be introduced to the fleet (it was 14 but another one has popped up as an extra apparently). This particular bus is a dual door example and is one of three currently ready for service - these have been drafted into service specially for the raceday shuttle service 197, currently only with basic fleetnames applied and a permanent destination fitted, as well as an adaption of the previous 'greener air for london' text at the back being amended for York. the ones currently in use have been given names of horses which have raced at York. Although Volvo's, these have different gearboxes to the usual and so they sound like VDL Pulsar's. Here are some interior photos.
