Previously housed a number of businesses, including a bank and a grocery store. A March 2008 fire that destroyed the building next door also created significant smoke and water damage to this building.
Excelsior at home in Bournemouth on 28th October,2015. I won't even try to identify individual coaches because capturing an image from a moving train, through a carriage window and wire fence, and against the light was bad enough !

The Excelsior Hotel was built in the 1850s and guests included several U.S. presidents, wealthy and famous people. Still one of the most popular and distinctive hotels in East Texas. Alleged to be extremely haunted.
Grabbed this Kelsey Excelsior 5X8 from the flea market right before I left, which means I won't have to sneak into the Brooks printlab when I graduate.

Immediately to the North of Brig Gen Charles Graham's brigade in the Sherfy Peach Orchard was the Excelsior Brigade under Col William Brewster. The brigade had been organized by Maj Gen Daniel Sickles himself, now commanding the Union III Corps, in 1861 and had fought well in the Peninsula Campaign, Second Bull Run and Fredericksburg. At Gettysburg, Brewster desperately attempted to realign the brigade to face the charge of Brig Gen William Barksdale's Mississippians, reinforced with a regiment from Brig Gen George Burling's brigade, which had been scattered apart trying to reinforce weak points throughout III Corp's line. Pummeled by Maj Porter Alexander's artillery now posted at the Peach Orchard, hit by Barksdale's troops on the left, Burling and Brewster's troops crumbled with Brig Gen Joseph Carr's Brigade after being hit from the right by Brig Gen Cadmus Wilcox's Alabamans and Col David Lang's Floridans of Maj Gen Richard Anderson's Confederate division of Lt Gen Ambrose Hill (loaned to Lt Gen James Longstreet). As Carr fell badly wounded, Brig Gen Andrew Humphreys attempted to hold off the Confederate onslaught with whatever troops he had left in his division. The Excelsior Brigade would suffer 778/1837 troops engaged.
The Excelsior Brigade monument was erected in 1893 by the State of New York. Originally the monument was supposed to be topped by a statue of Daniel Sickles', their original controversial commander; after some thought the monument ended up being topped by an eagle.
