Down at Port View Park (Middle Harbor Park) in the Port Of Oakland, near one of the shipping terminals, sits a museum. It's tiny, but covers the history of the place surprisingly well. One of the windows has a transparent overlay of a black and white photo of the port from 1905, as well as footprints that show where to stand to line up yesteryear's and today's views. It's nifty!
Someday, I'll go back and take this same shot with higher production values. :)
And yes, the big belch of smoke in the upper right corner is from a ship docked at today's port.
The evolution of European fine art is very well represented at the Houston Museum of Fine Art, including the grandeur of the Baroque period.

Evolution is a 4 tonne bronze sculpture showing the evolution of one of the world's oldest sports, archery, from Roman times, through the Imperial era to contemporary.
It has been gifted to our city by the Beijing Olympic Sculpture committee and China's Ministry of Culture, who also chose Gisborne as one of only 12 cities around the world outside China to host the collection of small sculptures to commemorate the Beijing Olympic Games.
The sculpture was unveiled on its plinth at Marina Park on Friday 8 October 2010.
