Miss May 2009 - Crystal McCahill
WINDY CITY NATIVE CRYSTAL MCCAHILL
IS PLAYBOY’S MISS MAY 2009
Crystal McCahill, daughter of Miss August 1968 Gale Olson, is Playboy’s Playmate of the Month for May 2009
Crystal knew from a young age that she wanted to follow in her mother’s footsteps and pose for Playboy. “I remember telling my brothers and sisters, ‘I’m going to do that one day. I’m going to do the exact pose.’” And the brunette bombshell followed through. She pays homage to her mother’s 1968 pictorial by also posing poolside with an inflatable swan just like her mother had done over 40 years ago.
Miss May was initially discovered when she attended a Chicago casting call as part of Playboy’s 55th Anniversary Playmate Search last year. Soon after she ran into the Girls Next Door filming an episode at Hooters and then coincidentally bumped into Playboy Photography Director, Gary Cole. “He said, ‘Yes, I think it’s meant to be,’” explains the sexy Chicagoan. “All those years I waited to be a Playmate like my mom, and this just happened so fast.”
Miss May graduated in 2001 from Christian Liberty Academy in Wheeling County, IL, after living in Hawaii with her family for seven years. She competed on a swim team in high school and also worked part-time at Galati Pizza, a local pizza parlor in Round Lake, IL.
When she isn’t tending bar at a few of Chicago’s hottest night spots, you can find her relaxing at home with her friends or hanging out with her big family.

I finished the head! I think she came out very good, she has blue eyelashes! My only qualm is that there must have been moisture in the air so the MSC dried with a kind of rough feel to it. Very annoying. But she looks so lovely that I'm tempted to keep her...

You know what REALLY makes me feel old? When I told this little girl that I liked her outfit and that it reminded me of Slim Goodbody (a children's show I used to watch as a kid that promoted good health), I expected she wouldn't know what I was talking about. But I was SHOCKED when her parents didn't! They asked me when it came out and I said in the 70s and early 80s. They looked at me and said "We weren't born back then!" (Not the kid-but the parents mind you! Next I'll be relating familiar time periods with the kids' GRANDPARENTS! Hehe!)
I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. The kid is a tween (10-12), and her parents are probably in their early 30s, which is more than a decade younger than I am. It's still kind of shocking to me though

as depicted by the African American woman Harriet Powers in her pictorial quilt. (More about Ms. Powers here: www.georgiawomen.org/2010/10/powers-harriet/ )
Descriptions are likely by Harriet Powers herself, words in ( ) added by me.
Top Left:
"The dark day of May 19, 1780. The seven stars were seen 12 noon in the day. The cattle all went to bed, chickens to roost, and the trumpet was blown. The sun went off to a small spot and then to darkness." (Interesting info about the date here: www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2008/05/dayintech_... )
Top right:
"The falling of the stars on Nov. 13, 1833. The people were frightened and thought that the end of time had come. God's hand stayed the stars. The varmints rushed out of their beds." (This refers to the Leonid meteor shower of 1833.)
Bottom left:
"Cold Thursday, 10 of Feb. 1895. A woman frozen while at prayer. A woman frozen at a gateway. A man with a sack of meal frozen. Icicles formed from the breath of a mule. All blue birds killed. A man frozen at a jug of liquor." (Temperatures were below zero in Athens, Georgia, that day!)
Bottom right:
"The red light night of 1846. A man tolling the bell to notify the people of the wonder. Women, children and fowls frightened, but God's merciful hand caused no harm to them." ("This probably refers to the meteor showers that occurred on Aug. 10 and 11 that year, which seemed to set the sky aflame." from: books.google.com/books?id=kGTqWTfN1ecC&pg=PA72&lp... )
