A special invite from Don to view some Evening Grosbeaks, Pine Grosbeaks, and Common Redpolls at an acreage SE of Tomahawk.

It was a fruitful trip. Not only did I get to see these beautiful birds (Thanks Don!), I also found an owl, several Bald Eagles, and two Coyotes.

Motif Number 1, located on Bradley Wharf in the harbor town of Rockport, Massachusetts, is a fishing shack well known to students of art and art history as "the most often-painted building in America".

Built in the 1840s as Rockport became home to a colony of artists and fishermen, the shack became a favorite subject of painters due to the composition and lighting of its location as well as being a symbol of New England maritime life. Painter Lester Hornby (1882-1956) is believed to be the first to call the shack "Motif Number 1" a reference to its being the favorite subject of the town's painters, and the name achieved general acceptance.

In the 1930s, painter John Buckley used the shack as his studio. He sold it to the town in 1945. In 1945, the town of Rockport purchased the Motif as a monument to Rockporters who had served in the Armed Services. The town, recognizing its iconic value, has taken pains to preserve both its structure and appearance, finding a red paint which appears weather-beaten even when new, and keeping the area clear of overhead wires, traffic signs and advertising.

The shack was destroyed during the Blizzard of 1978, but an exact replica was constructed that same year.

In the evening sunlight of Sweden, an expert fishman reels in his line, feeling for that faint tug on the line.

This May the evening primroses added large splashes of white to the shrub communities in western Colorado and southern Utah. Its flowers open in the evening and are pollinated by hawkmoths and sphinx moths, large moths that are often mistaken for hummingbirds. I have enjoyed watching white-lined sphinx moths pollinating evening primroses as the stars came out. The flowers usually shrivel in the heat of the following day.

Evening primroses can be distinguished from many other groups of flowers by the stigma, which receives the pollen and is divided into four prominent strands (this photo is taken at the wrong angle to clear show the four-part stigma).

I had a play with the inpainting tool in Affinity Photo.

I got quite the surprise as I had my long lens trained on our feeder taking photos of battling Pine Siskins. All of a sudden my viewfinder was filled with this much larger bird! I don't think I've ever seen one before, so this was quite the treat to be so close to her (about 10' through a window.)

so difficult for me.

Evening Grosbeak (Coccothrautes vespertinus).

We've had the pleasure of watching up to 10 birds at our feeders today.

I had just got out of the car when I noticed the horses, I wasn't close enough to concentrate on them. They do however show another side of daily life on Dunstable Downs.

Took some pictures of some clouds that looked pretty impressive and tweaked a bit in photoshop.

Nothing more to say really. Hope you like!
