This was after a rainy afternoon in Chicago. I was just getting random pictures and I took this one down a wet street. What I love is the way the light glows off the street and all the gold colors everywhere. It looks so nice.
I was lucky to get this because this was the only picture I took down this street and it came out so well. Normally night shots are hard for me to capture.
Another shot I made on our visit to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center for their Luminations celebration this past weekend. This shot took a lot of work as there were a LOT of people moving through this area and I had to expose the shot for 25 seconds to get enough light on my camera's sensor at the low ISO I was using. Would have loved to have been there after all the visitors left for a private shot of this scene, but the long exposure allowed me to ghost out most of the people walking through here.
Class 044 'Jumbo' 2-10-0 No.044 188-1 of Hof shed heads a mixed freight through Michelau towards Lichtenfels at 19:06 hrs on 2nd June 1972. I had been waiting for a Hof-Bamberg Pacific-hauled service, which as it turned out was running late. This freight was presumably pushed out in front of it and was a reasonable substitute I suppose, although I wasn't too impressed at the time! I was anxious to move on in order to secure on-spec accommodation for the night in Neuenmarkt Wirsberg and my car, the red Austin Mini 1000 MkII, can be seen parked in the freight depot. I saw the Pacific across the fields heading south just after setting off on the final part of my journey that day, which had started out on the Dutch border near Roermond with a visit to Aschaffenburg shed and Lichtenfels station on the way.

Evening clouds during one of the relatively clear days we had during the summer of 2021. Even so, it was still very hazy.
Apulia (Italian: Puglia) is a region of Italy in Southern Italy bordering the Adriatic Sea in the east, the Ionian Sea to the southeast, and the Strait of Ã’tranto and Gulf of Taranto in the south. Its southernmost portion, known as Salento peninsula, forms a high heel on the "boot" of Italy. The region comprises 19,345 square kilometers (7,469 sq mi), and its population is about 4.1 million. It is bordered by the other Italian regions of Molise to the north, Campania to the west, and Basilicata to the southwest. It neighbors Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, and Montenegro, across the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, respectively. The region extends as far north as Monte Gargano. Its capital city is Bari.
Situated at the south-eastern tip of the Italian peninsula, Apulia covers over 19,000 square kilometers (7,336 sq mi) in succession of broad plains and low-lying hills. The central area of the region is occupied by the Murge, a vast karst plateau and Itria Valley. The only mountainous areas, the Gargano promontory and the Monti Dauni, do not exceed 1,150 m (3,800 ft) and are to be found in the north of Apulia, which is the least mountainous region in Italy.
Apulia is a very dry region. Its few rivers are torrential and are to be found on the in southern Murge, where is the Canale Reale, on Tarantine, where is the Geleso river, and on the Tavoliere delle Puglie a tableland at the foot of the Gargano promontory that is one of the largest and agriculturally most productive plains in Italy. Elsewhere, rainwater permeates the limestone bedrock to form underground watercourses that resurface near the coast. Groundwater is therefore abundant, and there are many caves and sinkholes. The caves at Castellana Grotte are particularly spectacular.

We spent a few days in the Italian region of Puglia south of Bari during mid July - it is a really lovely area reminding of the Italian south or Sicily, with beautiful coastal scenery and lovely villages and towns of rich and long history. And the Italian food here... delicious!
Gallipoli is a town located by the Ionian Sea, on the west coast of the Salentina Peninsula. Its old town is located on a limestone island, linked to the mainland by a bridge built in the 16th century.

25 May 2014 was the annual May Species Count, which went really well. There were seven people in my group and we travelled in two vehicles, covering a large area SW of Calgary and W of Priddis. The Count lasted from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the weather was mostly clear but clouded up by noon, with a short shower while we were having lunch at Brown-Lowery Provincial Park. Heavy clouds for the rest of the day, calm, 9-18°C, with 88km travelled by car. 69 bird species were found, plus 15 White-tailed Deer and two Moose. A good day! Thanks for the ride, Phil! Much appreciated!
Each year on this Count, a highlight is calling in to see the much sought-after Evening Grosbeaks at Barb Castell's acreage. They didn't let us down, and even gave us some chances to get a few photos. They were a fair distance away and seemed to be constantly on the move, so I didn't get any photos that were particularly good. However, when it comes to Evening Grosbeaks, I'll take anything I can get : )
After the Count ended, it was pointed out that we could return to the city by one of two different routes. If we had chosen the other route, we would have missed the other highlight of the day - a Great Gray Owl! It didn't stay around for long, as it was busy hunting, but we did manage to get a handful of quick shots. We also saw a Ring-necked Pheasant in a field, just within camera range.
