This is a legal "drug" that you can buy in New Zealand. It is supposed to give you a buzz or it might fu_k you up.

One thing I do for my and my family’s mental health and overall wellness is diffuse essential oils. One evening I was so mesmerized by the beautiful, golden setting sunlight shining through the mist of the diffuser. This is one of several photos I captured that evening. I appreciate having this photo to look at which helps me to remember the beauty of this simple moment in time, how calming and uplifting it was.

This is a scene from the Lavender Festival at Young Living Farms in Mona, Utah. The festival celebrates lavender and other essential oils grown on the farm but also celebrates western and medieval history. The owners of the farm are big into jousting and they have built their own jousting arena complete with viewing stands. Shown here is one of the young knights in training using her lance to catch hanging rings. Note a few anachronisms in this scene, including the female knight and the ambulance hidden under the viewing stands.

my personal favorite, olive oil infused with oak moss for 6 - 12 months, laurel (bay) leaf essential oil, witch hazel color

Busy in my kitchen using flowers from our garden.

Lavender and Calendula, Lavender and Shea Butter and thirdly Honey and Beeswax. They all contain completely natural ingredients including lavender essential oil and local spring water.

I no longer buy liquid soap in plastic bottles. Next project is to make shampoo bars (less plastic again). Since we've been washing with my soaps our skin has become very soft - husband now says that they ask him for ID when he buys alcohol because he looks soooo young! 🤣 🤣

Resident of the Chico Mendes Extractive Reserve taps a large Copaíba tree (Copaifera langsdorffii) for its resin and essential oil.

A very important plant to native american Indians . The crushed leaves exude an essential oil that was considered to be antiseptic . It was used for stomach and bronchial ailments . Also used to treat mouth and and throat infections, dental caries and gingivitis. Also used for seasoning in wild game.

Oil burner with lavender oil for a restful sleep.

Spent several hours, Wednesday night, at the ER Vet with Baby. First off, he is OKAY.

Just want to let everyone know.....if you use one of the micro mist essential oil diffusers in your home.....they are TOXIC to your animals. It can cause a whole list of symptoms in a cat and other household pets.

We came straight home and got rid of ours. Just wanted to let you know.

Part of our essential oil stash in the cupboard. So thankful for the many ways essential oils have helped my family and me and for their help with my mental health.

ODC-Smelly

This has a very strong and distinctive smell that is hard to describe. Read the tags for a complete list of the oils in this, they are quite smelly! We don't want to put any chemicals on Shizandra. So we put this on her before taking her outside.

Our garden lavender is over but luckily I have lovely lavender therapies in the form of hand cream and essential oil.

Black Sage (Salvia mellifera) pushes upward with quiet authority each spring, its whorled blossoms spiraling like herbal incense into the chaparral air. A medicinal powerhouse to Indigenous Californians and a nectar fountain for native bees and hummingbirds, this drought-tolerant sage thrives in sun-drenched hillsides. Each fuzzy calyx cradles a bloom, often white with hints of lavender, releasing volatile oils that perfume the path when crushed underfoot. In spring, it’s not just blooming—it’s practicing medicine.

Aromatherapy is the use of the essential oils of botanicals for their healing and aromatic properties. Extracting the essential oils from the plants is an intricate process of pressing and distilling, with low yield. Pure essential oils, then, range from those at reasonable prices to those that go into the hundreds of dollars per one hundred millilitres. Exotic jasmine, neroli, frankincense and rose are amongst the highest in cost. Because they evaporate rapidly, essential oils are secured in carrier oils which allow the healing oils to be used in mists, soaps, bath oils, creams and related products.

An essential oil, then, is the soul of the botanical - precious, unique, healing and lovely.

In my two passions, psychotherapy and soap-making, I am privileged to work with souls - the psyches of people and the essences of plants. Psychotherapy and aromatherapy are related, I’ve found, and they teach lessons to each other. And this is where the alchemy comes in.

In approaching aromatherapy or psychotherapy, the purpose, the end result, the desired healing, must be clarified first. For instance, essential oil of ylang-ylang would be chosen where soothing and luxurious skin care were in order. In psychotherapy, a Rogerian positive regard would be applied to the psyche suffering from wounded self-esteem. Wise and caring creation of context and ongoing assessment are essential to each domain. Finally and most importantly, results must be seen and felt!

... part of an article written for a magazine, during my tenure as a soap-maker, and, oh, how I loved the art! I miss it greatly; but had to let it go when my sone was ill and we moved to a condo. I still have some of my soap, as evidenced by this picture, and am immensely particular when I buy soap...

Freshly cut and ready for the Curing Racks. Smelling Awesome.

Containing moorland spring water, olive oil, coconut oil, manuka honey, beeswax and French lavender essential oil.

The process of making handmade soap is a great distraction from the happenings in the world. It's also very kind and gentle on the skin, and Manuka Honey is said to have very high anti-bacterial properties.

I hope that all of my flickr friends remain safe and healthy.

Hugs to all.
