UPDATE:
“Environmentalists are accusing Scott Morrison of "trashing" Australia's international reputation, as official documents reveal the broad scale of his government's efforts to significantly increase coal exports at a time of mass protests calling for action on climate change.” “The government is seeking to grow its coal exports in overseas markets as it looks to buttress the economic fallout from a deteriorating relationship with China.” 22 September 2019 www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/pm-accused-of-trashing-au...
“If Adani’s mine goes ahead it will be one of the largest coal mines in the world and will generate an estimated 4.7 billion tonnes of carbon pollution over its lifetime.” “The mine would drive massive industrial port expansion along the Reef coastline at Abbot Point. Over a million cubic metres of the seafloor would be dredged for a new coal terminal, threatening the habitat of vulnerable dugongs and turtles and dolphins. There would be hundreds more coal ships ploughing through the Reef’s waters every year, increasing the risk of accidents.” www.marineconservation.org.au/stop-adani-wrecking-our-reef/
“Currently there are over 11,000 shipping movements through the Great Barrier Reef each year.” “When the massive coal carrier Shen Neng 1 crashed into the Reef in 2010 it damaged an area covering 0.4 square kilometres – the largest ever recorded by a ship grounding in the Great Barrier Reef.” www.marineconservation.org.au/dredging-shipping-great-bar...

The oil fires of Kuwait not only polluted the skies, but also the land. Oil mist sprayed across the desert lands, oil lakes blanketed 5% of Kuwait's area, and black rain poured down across the entire nation. The oily waste from the fires and the vast oil lakes from gushing non-burning wells gradually seeped below the land's surface and polluted freshwater acquifers. The oil also combined with sand and gravel to form tarcrete, a solid substance that permitted no plant growth. These layers of tarcrete remain today in Kuwait's desert. (From evidence.org.kw)
Gas is flared at a flow station owned by Italian oil company Agip in the Niger Delta, near the Akala-Olu community. As well as causing health problems and distress for people living nearby, gas flaring in Niger Delta is a also major source of CO2 emissions.

This is supposed to be an Inukshuk / Inuksuk, which are stone markers erected by Inuit and other northern peoples to identify trails and food caches. Since this pile of stones is in the middle of the rapids at Blakeney, Ontario, I can almost guarantee that no Inuit were involved in its construction.
So how is this not littering? If someone dumped a pile of rocks and dirt in the middle of the rapids, people would be angry, and say it was destroying the environment, not to mention being an eyesore. How is this different? Every one of those flat rocks was gathered from the river bed, so every one of those flat rocks represents one fewer hiding places for crayfish and other water critters. The removal of every one of those flat rocks was an attack on the environment.
Feedback welcomed.

Crude oil that has seeped under an embankment running through swam affected by an oil spill from a Shell pipeline near the Engenni community of Joinkarama 4. The oil on that got through to this side of the embankment was not cordoned off. Since the discovery of oil in Nigera over 50 years ago, the amount of oil spilt has represented the equivalent of one Exxon Valdez disaster per year.

The other evening my walk was disturbed by a nasty smell. A man on a large tractor type machine was spraying lawn chemicals onto the verge above this narrow canal connecting two retention ponds. This is what the water looked like the next morning. I have not seen herons or turtles here since the spraying. Sun City Hilton Head, Okatie, South Carolina

Elevated view of Sundial Farm, Lea Brook Lane, Wentworth, Rotherham.
When the floodlights go on at Sundial farm, it’s not just the ménage that gets illuminated. Due to a combination of ill designed and directed floodlighting, light is able to spill far beyond its intended target.
The image to the right is Mexborough & Swinton Astronomical Society’s observatory-
This picture clearly demonstrates the extent of the problem- spill light from the floods have cast my shadow and that of nearby trees onto the observatory dome.
This could easily be eradicated by pointing the light fittings downwards, and by fitting shields to limit any stray light.
