And smaller still his dog. How small his power to preserve, and how strong his power to destroy. Let's try to preserve this earth while there is time, if there is time...

I've heard news stories for several years about the non-native invasive iguanas in Florida, but in 10 winter/spring trips I've never seen one. This year, we saw several large Green Iguanas (Iguana iguana) at Wakodahatchee Wetlands, and one large one at Laxahatchee NWR, all in southern Florida.

The one in the picture and at least four others were draped over dead branches at my eye level, sleeping in the bright sunlight. This one opened his eyes for this picture.

Invasive iguanas did not swim to Florida from Central or South America. They were carelessly released by pet owners or escaped from sellers of exotic animals. They are considered a severely destructive environmental hazard (and they can bite or scratch.)

From nose to the tip of its very long tail (tail not shown in this picture), this iguana was almost four feet long (about 1.2m).

On the outskirts of Havre, Montana are these two old, rotting cars that look like they have been parked there for many years. I finally had the courage to photograph them.

There are a lot of old, rusting cars like this scattered all over Montana. I do like photographing them. These in particular had a spirit about them.

A subject that confuses me. The removal and relocation of gravestones, who makes the decision to do it and why ?, whatever happened to the meaning of resting in peace ?. History and heritage come into play too with many of the stones damaged during their removal.

I imagine this as a portrait of Gaia, our earth, shedding tears at the way we have treated our planet...once the Amazon forest is gone, the balance will be lost... and I don't want to be here the day the last snow leopard is gone

Kattoli Beach is an attractive beach on the southern side of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, a little away from Chittagong city. This beach in South Kattali Ward of Pahartali Police Station is unknown to many. Another name of this beach is Jelepara Beach. Here you can see the lifestyle of fishermen very closely and if you want you can buy fish from them.

Beach on one side and rural environment on the other cannot be found in any other beach. And most of all it will be nice to see many birds in Keora forest here. And one can spend a day sitting inside this Keora forest listening to the gentle breeze and roar of the sea. Sea birds are usually seen on the beach. In addition to sea birds, the beaches here are dominated by birds such as pigeons, woodpeckers, pigeons, bhat shaliks, khanjana. So Kattoli Beach is undoubtedly a unique beach.

Indonesia is currently facing one of massive drilling induced environmental disaster in the form of uncontrolled huge mudflow and the consequent environmental damage which started on May 29, 2006 during drilling of an exploratory well Banjar Panji-1 in Siring village in Porong district in Sidoarjo regency, East Java, Indonesia, and is still continuing until this time.

For two years and five months the seepages in the earth has been oozing hot mud enough to fill 50 Olympic-size swimming pools every day. The mud also has accompanying methane and hydrogen sulphide, though in small quantities giving foul odor. The oozing mud has inundated huge area of land in and around and has made 12,000 families homeless by submerging 4 villages, 30 factories, 33 schools and hundreds of hectares of farmland and ponds. Now nobody knows when this mud flow will stop, it is estimated that this flow may last for another 30 years in the form of mud volcano. This mud flow has already resulted in subsidence of land due to subsurface voidage creation resulting in damage to nearby trunk gas pipe line and railway line and toll road. An expenditure of US$ 1.1 billion is estimated to meet compensation to the affected people and to rectify the infrastructural damage.

Finally the mud is being channeled to the Porong River to the sea, the environmental damage potential of which has not even been studied.

Apparently, the beach is black because of the black porphyrus stones,.. the color having come because of a (closed) asbestos factory of Canari, northward. The factory, also known by the 320 ex-employess as 'The White Hell' mined 1million tons of the grey 'Amianthus' fire-resistant rock (asbestos with really fine fibers) (another Greek discovery) yearly before going out of business (1965) due to Canadian exports selling the rock cheaper. An untold number of previous workers died of the disease 'svetose', similar to silicosis, linked to inhalation of toxic mineral-dust. This shot was taken from the Genoan tower of Nonza which overhangs the sea at 500 feet.

Today is Earth Day, a day to think about how our actions have affected our planet and what we can do to save our home.

While most communities focus on reducing environmental pollution today, Messiah Foundation International raises awareness of the need to reduce spiritual pollution in our world. In order to eliminate hatred and encourage global harmony to prosper, humanity must become inclined towards the spiritual sciences. When divine energy will enlighten humankind, divine attributes will become dominant in our society. Then, respect for all creation and respect for our planet will be the norm everywhere!

Reindeer (Rangifer tarandus), were introduced to South Georgia by Norwegian whalers in the early 20th century. They reached high densities and caused much environmental damage and they have now been eradicated from the entire island.

A beautiful nurse log contains a row of many small evergreens. Only when I looked closer did I notice that the lower trunk of every one was bare, and only the tops, which were out of reach of the invasive Sitka deer, had growth. It gave them a strange umbrella-like look. Lyell Island, Haida Gwaii, BC.
