Reflection of the ASU plant life spectrum in the window of the Student Services building. The picture is more or less raw from the camera, with a quick level correction. I'm quite pleased with how the reflection came out, much better than I thought it would!

Jim Bowsher loves local history. He loves having it come alive for people, and not just being some stuffy thing in a book. That's part of why he built what he calls the Temple of Tolerance in his backyard. Well, actually, in three backyards that he purchased to make room for the giant glacial rocks that stand at the heart of it.
Jim's also an amateur archaeologist with a penchant for finding so-called banded rocks indigenous to this part of northern Ohio - the result of volcanic activity a long, long time ago. He tracks down these enormous boulders, then moves them into place in the yard with levers, no power tools, and in doing so has created a stately, majestic backyard environment quite unlike any other we've seen.
In and around the rocks, he's added pieces from old buildings and farmsteads around Wapakoneta. When people roam around and over the Temple of Tolerance, the energies from those structures inspire dialogue and memories. And that's how history should be taught, he believes.
Jim says airplane pilots have come to his door because they couldn't believe what they saw flying over it. And oh yes, there's bluegrass music here on warm Thursday nights. You're invited.

Plastic in the Environment on Kollam Beach, Southern India. Plastic is a double edged sword - cheap to make, useful in its durability and indispensable in modern society, yet when it escapes into the environment from human systems, less than beautiful scenes such as that here result - all of the fragments as far as the eye can see were plastic. Nearly everywhere I've been in the past year fragments of plastic, particularly single use plastics, have abounded. Is there a better way of getting the contents of such items from producer to consumer without our rubbish ending up in places of beauty? It is startling to be reminded of the contemporary nature of this issue as commodity thermoplastics have only been around since the late 1940s!

UNEP has provided remote and real-time advice to the Government of Nepal, international agencies, and the UN system on dealing with the environmental issues linked to the the earthquake. UNEP also actively participated in a Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) completed in June 2015.
In order to ensure that environmental issues are addressed during the reconstruction process, UNEP is working closely with the World Wildlife Fund for Nature on a rapid environmental assessment to inform the recovery process. In addition, UNEP has also facilitated the establishment of a coalition between WWF, International Union for Conservation of Nature and the Kathmandu-based International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), with the objectives of promoting good environmental management principles and promoting healthy ecosystems in the reconstruction progress.
