Entries from the 1st Annual ITS Tactical Snowman Contest! Check out ITS Tactical for details on this year's contest!
Directed by: Frederick de Cordova
Cast:
Howard Duff - Bert Powers
Märta Torén - Anna Duvak
George Brent - Dan Collins
Gar Moore - Lee Sloan
Tom Tully - Nick Gruber
Paul Stewart - Zack Richards
Synopsis:
Long before he became producer/director of The Tonight Show, Fred DeCordova helmed the Universal meller Illegal Entry. Howard Duff, who later worked with DeCordova on the TV series Mr. Adams and Eve, stars as Bert Powers, an undercover agent for the U.S. Department of Immigration. While attempting to bring a vicious gang of alien smugglers to justice, Powers falls in love with Anna Duvak (Marta Toren), a gang member who is Not What She Seems.
The film leaves no cliché unturned, not even the familiar scene wherein the airborne smugglers dispose of their human cargo by way of a handy lever which causes the bottom of the plane's passenger section to drop out. Illegal Entry is staged in semi-documentary fashion, maintaining the then-prevalent tradition of such popular films as House on 92nd Street and Call Northside 777. (allmovie.com)

Launch-Entry Suit
Space Shuttle
The Launch-Entry Suit was a partial-pressure suit worn by Space Shuttle astronauts to protect against loss of cabin pressure during ascent and descent. Introduced after the 1986 Challenger accident, it was used until the late 1990s, when the full pressure Advanced Crew Escape Suit was phased out.
Informally called the "pumpkin suit" for its bright color, it pressurized at 3.2 pounds per square inch, and the inflated internal bladder exerted mechanical pressure on the crewmember's body. The helmet visor and neck dam were pressure seals, but the gloves were not; they connected to the suit by a tube and needle valve. The Launch-Entry Suit included an integrated "g-suit" to prevent blood from pooling in the lower body during reentry. The vest-like harness worn over the suit contained a parachute, breathing air tank, and survival gear for an emergency bail-out.
This suit was never worn in space. The gloves, boots and harness were worn in training or flight. All launch-entry helmets are still in use in NASA's inventory of flight gear.

PEPP = Planetary Entry Parachute Program
"Construction of flight test unit from which parachutes will be deployed in a series of experiments to check out new techniques for landing unmanned capsules on Mars. A metal skin is being placed over the disc-shaped frame with a central tube which will house the packaged parachute. The unit will be carried to an altitude of about 140,000 miles by a huge balloon. It will then be released and when free from the balloon the unit will be propelled to a downward velocity of about 10,000 miles per hour by eight small rocket engines. This velocity will closely simulate the speed of a capsule entering the Martian atmosphere. When the unit has been propelled downward to 130,000 feet the parachute carrying a small instrument package will be deployed. The disc-shaped carrier will fall freely to the ground, and the parachute and laboratory instrument package will be recovered for inspection and laboratory analysis. The tests are scheduled to begin mid-1966 at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. In some tests Nike sounding rockets will be used to launch the smaller flight units."

"What is the password!?", this entry guardian roared, as I snapped a photo.
"Simba is Great!", I responded.
The fierce guardian purred with satisfaction.

On our way to Fort Worth, we decided to take the scenic route along Highway 67, then Highway 377. We stopped briefly in the town of Comanche Texas and saw this gem in the form of the Old County Jail. I had to snap a few pictures!
