Michael Andrade, BESc’86, is the recipient of the 2015 L.S. Lauchland Engineering Alumni Medal.

Currently the Executive Vice President, Diversified Markets at Celestica, Michael is responsible for implementing the strategic vision and execution of the company’s aerospace, defense, industrial, healthcare and energy businesses. He is also an active leader in the community, providing strategic counsel in roles such as Technology and Communications Chair with the United Way Toronto Campaign Cabinet (2012

to present) and Junior Achievement of Central Ontario Board of Directors (2009-2012).

Western Engineering presented Michael with the prestigious alumni award during Homecoming 2015 at the Engineering Alumni & Friends Reception held Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Hilton Hotel.

On 20 feb 2011 we started machining the most complex assembly part of our AC brake series at Pethe Engineering Lonavla plant.

3 different parts were mounted simultaneously one above other.

All the 3 parts were having different hardness ( from castiron to very tough ceramic friction material ). Its really challenging to do all these machining operations together.

With 7 different drilling tools it took full 3 hours and 32 minutes to complete all the drilling and reaming and tapping operations.

Needless to say this job is done with high precision and lot of time saving ! All thanks to 10 indexible head made in Japan Fanuc CNC drill and tap centre.

In years to come we will be adding automatic job loading and unloading attachment to save idle time.

The fun side of artistic engineering

Here I am taking pictures in class.. you can see that my canon is well underway... i was able to do it on a CNC machine... I made this canon in 2 minutes & 30 seconds. I'll get a picture of the CNC later, that was done in a clandestine room inside the RPI building.

That's what the structure of the wings makes me think of. Same dragon fly as above. Tokyo, Oct. 2010.

One of my favourites, not only because of the composition, but because it was so difficult to get the right exposure with such a bright arc.
