I discovered last night, whilst taking photos of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, that my Sony DT 1.8/50 SAM lens suffers from extreme amounts of sensor reflection in situations with bright spots of light. Whilst it delivers a cool effect in some instances (I think I like the reflection more than the real image in this picture), it's irritating that I can't seem to get rid of it in shots that I don't want it.

Soldiers from the Bowling Green-based 189th Engineer Company, 276th Engineer Battalion compete for bragging rights as "best squad" in a series of Army Warrior Tasks and team building events March 9, 2014, in Bowling Green. The squads were evaluated on a variety of tasks including reacting to enemy contact, visual signals, life saving measures, reacting to a chemical threat, voice communications and proficiency on M4, M16, M2 and M249 weapons systems as well as the combat bridge transport pull. Looking west from the pedestrian crossing the signal bridge can just barely be made out, and the indications hardly at all. While the elevated view from the cab must have been slightly better, it could not have been a fun day for the train crews.

South Brunswick Middle School is 1 of several food and water distribution points the North Carolina National Guard is currently operating in Brunswick County. Each family received 2 boxes of MREs and 2 cases of bottled water.
Over 2,800 North Carolina National Guard Service Members are on State Active Duty for Hurricane Florence. Primary missions are to preserve lives and property of NC citizens and visitors, route clearance, communication and cyber support, and logistics commodities distribution to Guardsmen, first responders, and local communities.

Teens at the Avondale Regional Branch Library pick up some engineering skills and answer some of these questions with the help of their engineering mentors during this engaging program. This program is brought to the library in partnership with the UAB School of Engineering and is generously funded by the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham.
