Rides from a traveling amusement park. My intention was to capture the stunning light trails emitted from them.
My goal on this shot was to capture multiple rides moving at the same time. For the duration of time that I was there, it didn't happen. As I was leaving with my tripod already packed, it happened. Many of the rides were spinning at the same time. I quickly grabbed my camera and placed it on top of the car. Had to crop off a large part of the hood and this is the result. I was lucky. :)

D1935 'Roger Hosking MA 1925-2013' emits a trace of exhaust as it powers over the Ouse Valley Viaduct with 1Z84, the 1653 Eastbourne to Chesterfield 'Statesman' excursion.
Also know as Balcombe Viaduct and opened in 1841, this is the highlight of the route built by the London and Brighton Railway.
This ornate, brick-built structure comprises of over 11 million bricks, mostly imported from the Netherlands and shipped up the river Ouse from Newhaven and Lewes to the construction site. The stone balustrades and pavillions were imported from Caen in Northern France.
After a month of poor weather, this was a rare occasion to enjoy the August sunshine, capture a locomotive-hauled train on the famous viaduct and meet up with a few likeminded photographers.

As much as creating atmospheres in Photography is essential for me, I also love anything that emits serenity, this is why I think Nature is so popular in this field. This is from the early evening back the River Havel alongside Grunewald, just outside Berlin. This time no Duck but a romantic yacht in the far distance, I could just imagine the sailor just lying down, looking up at the sky whilst the gentlest of breezes pushes you along whilst floating on the calmest of waters, when it comes to serenity, I don't think it gets much better than that!

I thought I'll skip putting up a Christmas tree this year. Didn't feel like it. But today I dragged the Christmas decorations out of the basement. It does look cheerful.

Entre las rocas calizas costeras existen grietas, pequeños conductos muy estrechos que comunican la superficie de la costa con el fondo marino.
En determinados momentos, cuando se combina el fuerte oleaje, el viento nordeste y la marea subiendo, las olas penetran a gran velocidad con con gran fuerza por esos pequeños conductos, emitiendo hacia el exterior chorros de agua pulverizada que alcanzan gran altura, por encima de los diez metros en muchas ocasiones. Además emiten un fuerte sonido característico. Son los bufones.
Este de Santiuste que mostramos en la imagen se encuentra cerca de la Playa La Franca, en el oriente de Asturias. Muy cercano a la carretera nacional Santander-Oviedo.
Esta imagen, de hace mas de ocho años, forma parte de un conjunto de bufones captados con la cámara en una mañana, con todo a favor, viento, luz, oleaje. marea, etc.
Nunca mas hemos logrado captar estas imágenes, a pesar de que hemos visitado ese punto en muchísimas ocasiones. Ahora mucho menos, la autovia ha disminuido mucho el tráfico en la carretera cercana.

Taxodium distichum, el ciprés de los pantanos o ciprés calvo, Es un árbol de la familia de las Taxodiáceas originaria del sudeste de los Estados Unidos. Es una especie que se adapta muy bien a los medios húmedos.
Hábitat
El ciprés calvo, que es el árbol emblema de Luisiana, es originario del cuadrante sud-este de los Estados Unidos. Se le considera a menudo como el símbolo de los humedales del sur, también se encuentra en Carolina del Sur, Illinois, Misisipi, Florida y Texas.
Este árbol aprecia los lugares soleados y los terrenos encharcados, pantanosos o regularmente inundados. Es una de las pocas coníferas que pueden vivir dentro del agua. Medra en la orilla de los grandes ríos como el Misisipi. Fue introducido en Europa en 1640. En los terrenos más secos, está acompañado del roble de los pantanos (Quercus palustris).
La especie vivía asimismo en Europa hace 8 millones de años, como lo indica un excepcional descubrimiento reciente (en julio de 2007) cerca de Bükkábrány, en el departamento de Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén en Hungría. Se trata de un grupo de árboles del mioceno cuya madera no se ha fosilizado y se ha conservado en una mina de lignita.
Descripción
Conífera caducifolia. Puede llegar hasta 40 metros de altura, copa piramidal, ramas horizontales, hojas aciculares de 1 por 0.1 cm, caedizas. Cultivado en la región del Delta del Paraná, sobre el borde de arroyos, como protector contra la erosión hídrica. Buena madera, textura fina y homogénea, grano derecho y veteado suave, Pe 0,510 kg/dm³. Madera blanda, liviana, fácil de trabajar. Para construcciones de viviendas, vigas, tirantes.
Su tronco se ensancha en la base, proporcionándole estabilidad. En suelos anegados emite raíces aéreas llamadas neumatóforos que buscan la superficie para oxigenarse.
Taxonomía
Taxodium distichum fue descrita por (L.) Rich. y publicado en Annales du Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle 16: 298. 1810.

This pale pink variety is a rare species in Fuuran.

A set of battery-powered LED Christmas lights, bunched together to fit within the 3" (76.2mm) size limit.
Of all the decorations and iconography of the festive season, the Christmas light is my favorite. I may have a soft spot for the old-school incandescent bulbs, but the LED has unleashed quite a wave of possibilities without the shock (sorry) of insane electricity bills.

MISS ROSIE, A CORPSE FLOWER, bloomed at Tucson's Botanical Gardens on Monday April 23, 2018. I photographed it the following day when it was in the early stages of closing. The Flower was pollenated and the eventual seeds will hopefully produce more Corpse Flowers. This image is a detail.
The corpse flower is a pungent plant that blooms rarely and only for a short time. While it is in bloom, the flower emits a strong odor similar to rotting meat or, aptly, a decaying corpse.
The majority of photographs actually capture reflected light, i.e the light emitted by earthly objects, when it has practically lost most of its original intensity and might ... I myself am a huge fan of low lighted, long shutter speed images ... In any case to successfully capture light as actually emitted by the "MIGHTY" sun is always a challenge for the photographer ...
The best hours to do this still is and will always remain the "golden hours" ... The hours of the day when sunlight turns from white to gold, mainly dew to sun's position in the sky and the diffusion of its light through the thicker part of earth's atmosphere ... When this moment comes, find an interesting foreground figure and either create a back-light frame (turning the foreground figure into a recognizable shade) or simultaneously use fill in flash at its full intensity to capture foreground detail as well ...

El colibrí oreja violeta o colibrí orejiazul (Colibri thalassinus) es una especie de ave apodiforme de la familia Trochilidae que vive en las tierras altas, desde la parte central de México hasta el oeste de Panamá y, en la región de Los Andes, desde el norte de Venezuela hasta Bolivia. Es un ave migratoria que llega hasta Estados Unidos e incluso Canadá. Su hábitat son los campos con árboles y matorrales, entre los 600 y los 3 000 msnm, pero al parecer evita las zonas inundables y la selva tropical muy húmeda.
Mide de 9,9 a 11,5 cm de longitud y pesa de 5 a 6 g. El macho es de color verde césped brillante en la cabeza y el dorso, color que se vuelve bronceado en la grupa y la parte superior de las alas. Se distingue por una mancha azul o violeta alrededor del oído. La cola es cuadrada y muestra una amplia franja subterminal azul oscura.
Las subespecies del norte presentan una mancha violeta en el pecho y una franja azul-violeta a lo largo de la barbilla, que a menudo se conecta con la del oído.
La hembra es similar al macho, pero en promedio es más pequeña y de coloración un poco más apagada, con la franja de color violeta más estrecha en el mentón
Las subespecies desde Costa Rica hacia el sur tienen el pecho verde brillante y no muestran mancha violeta en el pecho y la barbilla, pero sí la azul violeta del oído.
Los ejemplares juveniles tienen el plumaje verde oliva en la parte superior, con tintes grisáceos en el pecho y vientre; posteriormente mudan de plumaje, adquiriendo los tonos brillantes metálicos.
Visita flores de muchas especies de plantas para alimentarse del néctar. Así, visita tanto flores de plantas herbáceas como de arbustos, situadas a ras del suelo o a muy poca altura; y, también, otras situadas incluso a más de 15 metros de árboles y epífitos. Liba en flores tubulares, tales como especies de Salvia y Bomarea; y, también, flores de corola corta, cuyo diseño está más bien dirigido a los insectos polinizadores.
También se alimenta de insectos, como dípteros. Para capturarlos se suele situar en perchas altas y expuestas desde las que se lanza para atrapar a moscas y mosquitos. Canta vigorosamente CHIP-chut-chut, chip, CHIIT, y emite un llamado seco chut, aunque se registran variaciones regionales en las notas: chak-chit o b'r'b'r't'stik. El nido es una copa de material vegetal, construido en un árbol a una altura de 1 a 3 m. La hembra pone 2 huevos blancos.

A LED light bulb (technically a lamp), used as a replacement for incandescent light bulbs used in the instrument panels of older vehicles. I powered this 12-volt lamp at about 6 volts to reveal the three small LED elements within each of the five chips on the lamp, for a grand total of 15 tiny electronic light sources glowing brightly at full power in place of one conventional filament.
After I posted this, I realized the filament structure of an old incandescent 16mm projection lamp would have been a better subject. Oh, well. :(

Don't pick this one up. Blister beetles emit cantharidin, a chemical that causes painful blisters on the skin. I found this one while hiking the Continental Divide Trail on some heavily overgrazed land near Lordsburg, New Mexico.
This view looks across Yellowstone Lake from the shores Sedge Bay along the East Entrance Road In Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. The hill on the left side of the photo is Steamboat Point. One close inspection of the photo, steam can be seen rising from fumaroles at the base of the hill just above the lake. These fumaroles are some of the first thermal features encountered by visitors who enter the park from the East Entrance. Fumaroles are vents or openings at the surface where volcanic gases and vapors are emitted. Faint to loud roars and hissing can be heard as the gas escapes the vent. Most of the vapor emitted by fumaroles is steam, formed as groundwater circulates deeply through heated rock. The water vapor mixes with volcanic gases given off by magma deep below in Yellowstone’s caldera. These volcanic gases include sulfur compounds, such as various sulfur oxides and hydrogen sulfide which accounts for the sulfur or “rotten egg smell” visitors may notice. There are no geysers that erupt water here. The fumaroles at Steamboat Point are some of the thermal features associated with the Marys Bay hydrothermal explosion crater on the side of Yellowstone Lake. There are several such hydrothermal explosion craters scattered across Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. They range from tens of feet to more than a mile across. This one at Marys Bay is not only the largest hydrothermal explosion crater documented in Yellowstone but it is also the largest in the world. It measures 1.5 miles (2.6 km) in diameter and forms an embayment on the north side of Lake Yellowstone. The crater, which formed 13,800 years ago, may have been the result of several separate explosions over a short period of time. The cause or trigger for these hydrothermal explosions are not fully understood but pressure release due to glacial melting, earthquakes, or rapid changes in lake levels could be significant factors. Geological studies have found that these large, violent hydrothermal events are independent of associated volcanism. In the past 16,000 years, none of these events have been followed by an eruption of magma. The deeper magma systems seen unaffected by these sometimes spectacular steam explosions in their overlying hydrothermal systems.
The hill across the lake just beyond its western shore is The Elephant Back. Most of the top of this hill lies above 8600 feet above sea level (ASL) with the culmination at 8731 feet ASL. Elephant Back is typical of the topography in the center of the Yellowstone Caldera.

Aqui la tengo ..una entrevista al director del documental...
“Me he enamorado de Córdoba”. Es la carta de presentación telefónica del arqueólogo salvadoreño Fabio Esteban Amador, el guía y corazón del documental Córdoba: Misterios Ocultos, que emite National Geographic este domingo y que, si nos atenemos a los halagos que salen de su boca, le ha cambiado la vida.
El explorador ha presentado este miércoles en Madrid la película dirigida por Fernando González-Sitges, y ha dado unas cuántas pinceladas previas de lo que supone el documental a Córdoba. Ha sido en una charla telefónica que invita a reflexionar sobre el embrujo que la ciudad suele causar en quien la visita. Sobre todo si la comparas con la indiferencia -y el desconocimiento- que sienten muchos de quiénes tienen la suerte de vivir en ella.
PREGUNTA. ¿Nos puedes dar un adelanto de lo que va a ver el público el domingo con este documental?
RESPUESTA. Claro que sí. Este programa trata de profundizar en lo que se conoce como la historia de Córdoba en el presente. Y lo hace, no solo en el tiempo, sino en la diversidad y la riqueza cultural que existe. Quizá los cordobeses no notan esto, no notan que es algo especial porque viven ahí, pero sí es una historia muy compleja y excepcional. O sea, a nivel arqueológico, es un ejemplo de una ciudad moderna habitada desde hace 2.000 años.
P. Siga, siga.
R. Bueno, en el documental descubrimos que toda esta trayectoria ha sido casi toda gracias al manejo y uso de un recurso, a través del control del agua. Es curioso, porque es un tema ambiental. Este programa es arqueológico, pero se puede valorar desde un punto de vista medioambiental y ver cómo en el pasado supieron valorar este recurso y crear una ingeniería a su alrededor para poder conservarlo y ponerlo a su disposición durante más de 2.000 años. Esa es básicamente la estructura del programa. Va a través del tiempo y todo se conecta con el uso del agua.
Pero, lo más interesante a nivel arqueológico es que estamos usando tecnología vanguardista que permite visualizar el pasado sin tener un contacto con él. La arqueología se considera destructiva, porque retiras elementos de contexto primario, pero estas tecnologías que se usan en el documental te permiten captar elementos y contar una historia sin tener interacción con el contexto.
P. Y tu papel en el documental es el de guía, entiendo.
R. Bueno sí, las cámaras me siguen por Córdoba. Y yo hago preguntas. ¿Dónde está la Córdoba romana? ¿Dónde se encuentran los elementos romanos? ¿Por qué fue construida acá? ¿Cómo vivía la gente? ¿Cómo moría la gente? ¿Dónde está enterrada? Y el descubrimiento más grande que pude hacer es que todo funciona alrededor del control del agua.
P. El Guadalquivir.
R. Sí. El Guadalquivir, pero también las obras que se crearon de la sierra hasta la ciudad, que fueron elementos culturales que pudieron manejar un recurso natural.
P. ¿Qué sabías tú de Córdoba antes de rodar este documental y qué ha cambiado tras pasar una temporada investigándonos?
R. Pues te puedo decir que no sabía nada. Lo básico, sabía de ciertos elementos arquitectónicos de la ciudad y de su belleza, porque es Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Pero eso es lo que el turista conoce, algo muy superficial. Lo que descubrí me fascinó. Porque descubrí una riqueza cultural que se encuentra, aunque fragmentada, en los elementos que definen a Córdoba como un centro mundial de poder y cultural, un epicentro donde se desarrollan las ciencias. Y eso, verdaderamente, me ha cambiado la vida.
Te lo digo porque, a través de los científicos y los expertos que pude conocer durante la filmación, como Desiderio Vaquerizo, me inspiró completamente a poder interpretar el pasado de una forma muy diferente. Ahora mi conceptualización de Córdoba es mucho más compleja y mucho más rica y también es mucho más humana. Ya sabes que los arqueólogos amamos las piedras y los muertos, pero en este caso, investigando Córdoba me di cuenta de que existe una humanidad en la ciencia. A través de la arqueología lo podemos ver.
P. De todas las civilizaciones que han pasado por Córdoba, quizá la romana haya pasado algo más desapercibida, aunque en los últimos años sí que se esté dando a conocer. ¿Ocurre eso en el documental?
R. La Corduba romana fue importantísima, porque los elementos arquitectónicos verdaderamente reflejan una duplicidad. O sea, se están creando los mismos edificios, el mismo concepto de trazar una ciudad con elementos arquitectónicos que demandan mitos, los cosmos, la división de los muertos y los vivos. Verdaderamente refleja una cosmovisión que no solamente existe en Roma, existe también aquí en Córdoba. Y eso te dice que Córdoba fue creada con los mismos conceptos que la otra gran ciudad de su época, que era Roma.
Ahora, este momento tal vez no recibió demasiada publicidad en el pasado tal vez porque no se había estudiado con detenimiento. Pero en las últimas décadas, con personas como Vaquerizo, se empezó a aprender un poco más de la complejidad y del mismo manejo de recursos, así como de la propia belleza de sus casas, de las domus, de los mosaicos, de su contenido, de la mitología. Es verdaderamente una gran etapa, porque no estamos describiendo a Córdoba en términos de ruinas, sino que la describimos a partir de cómo era su gente, de cómo se comportaba, de dónde enterraba a sus muertos.
P. Entiendo que, por lo que dices, Córdoba está al nivel de Roma a nivel arqueológico, arquitectónico y patrimonial.
R. Pues yo diría que sí. Córdoba y Roma están al mismo nivel. Son contemporáneas, en el sentido de que Augusto, en su época alrededor del primer siglo, creó un concepto de civilización basado en la perfección. Así como Roma fue concebida como una ciudad perfecta, también Córdoba es una ciudad perfecta. Es que fue muy moderna en su época, muy muy moderna. O sea, no había otra como Córdoba a excepción de Roma. Y eso es singular. Existen otras ciudades con otros elementos arquitectónicos y arqueológicos, pero todos esos elementos a lo largo de su historia y la contemplación de que ciertas culturas usaron la tecnología de otras para sobrevivir, como lo hicieron los musulmanes, te crea una historia muy singular. Eso es lo bello de Córdoba, que cada una de las civilizaciones se aprovechó del pasado.

P. Pues esa es la pregunta. ¿Cómo podemos nosotros ahora aprovecharnos del pasado?
R. No podemos poner el pasado en valor si lo desconocemos. Parte de la misión del programa es dar a conocer que la tecnología es un mecanismo que nos permite visualizar el pasado. Y justamente esta ciudad fue creada con tecnologías y visiones y diferentes elementos que le han dado vida por más de 2.000 años. Como te decía antes, las obras de control y manejo del agua no fueron solo importantes para los romanos, sino que siguen siendo hoy mecanismos importantes que le dan vida a sus habitantes. Y yo considero que poder valorar este pasado tan remoto, que está enterrado en un verdadero inframundo, nos permite agregarle valor a nuestro sentido de identidad. Yo no soy de Córdoba, pero me siento orgulloso de poder brindarle a la población local, una nueva perspectiva de quiénes somos en presente por nuestro pasado tan complejo y tan bello.
P. ¿La arqueología puede ser política no? Ver cómo el control del agua es una idea clave en la subsistencia de una ciudad como Córdoba puede ser muy importante en unos momentos en los que la escasez de agua es uno de los temas más importantes que afronta el ser humano durante este siglo.
R. Yo creo que la arqueología puede ser utilizada como evidencia de la escasez o de la carencia de algún recurso en el pasado y proyectarlo hacia el futuro. Sabemos por ejemplo que el colapso de la civilización maya en el 900 d.C. en la península de Yucatán está muy relacionado con el agua. Esto nos hace pensar qué haríamos en el futuro ante un cambio tan dramático de ese tipo. Así que creo que la perspectiva arqueológica es positiva, porque podemos ver cómo se construyeron obras que han permitido a una ciudad vivir durante 2000 años. No diría que la arqueología es política pero sí que puede ser un elemento importante.

Most of this was shot before and during a near full moon. The only filter that really works effectively then is the Ha filter. The moon emits far less light in Ha and nebula in general are quite bright in Ha. The other filters, specifically the Oxygen filter are completely washed out by the moon light. But I was able to catch some Oiii in the early morning hours of the first session
