I got this little pink gent figurine on eBay for a fairly reasonable sum. He has a mysterious maker's mark -- looks kind of like a lowercase letter "l", in script? It's like a small oblong loop. I love his pinkness and the very fine quality of the painting. (Background: a very fine vintage linen napkin with whitework embroidery.)

This variegated embroidery floss is a gorgeous mix of greens and purple - ThreadworX 1068 Hawaiian Flowers. It reminds me of the beautiful Jacaranda trees that bloom in late spring in Southern California. It also makes me think of the long lasting blooms of Agapanthus, also called Lily of the Nile. The collection, consisting of items made between the 12th and the 19th centuries, includes objects embroidered with gold and silver and decorated with precious stones. There are over 5,000 pieces in the collection, including ecclesiastical and heirloom objects, many from Georgia, but also from Persian and Byzantine origin. The project will also digitize the inventory, and initiate conservation activities.

Masculine tailoring meets kimono styling in this striking ensemble by John Galliano. Inspired by the femmes fatales of the early 20th century, it comes from the designer's seminal 1994 collection. Galliano's vivid imagination and inventive use of fabric propelled him to the upper echelons of the fashion world where the kimono continues to inform his work.
