Flight EI126 Toronto to Dublin has been cancelled.

While chatting with my Dutch friend Chris this morning on Whatsapp, I asked if he was off work today and he said yes, he's on vacation because we had planned to meet up in Ireland, remember??

Oh shit, yes, today is 12 May, 2020, I was supposed to fly out of Toronto for Dublin tonight, on Irish airlines Aer Lingus. Well! Aer Lingus is not even flying to Toronto these days, so needless to say my long-planned Irish trip is a no-go! : (

After refusing to change my flight (mainly because no one knows when people can travel and tourists can visit countries without mandatory quarantine again) and refusing to take a credit voucher, Aer Lingus finally sent me an email giving me the option to request a refund. Now there is no guarantee that I'd actually receive a refund or how much I'd get, that remains to be seen.

(I should add that I don't blame Aer Lingus -- after all I'm sure they would have preferred to fly me over to its beautiful home of Ireland if possible.)

October 31, 2011; 5:04pm - I've just surfaced from one of the most incredible dives of my life. We've been diving in the sound between Alor and Pura for the past few days, and the water has been rich with the critter life for which this area in Indonesia is well known. It has, however, been unusually cold—the coldest any of us have ever experienced while diving in Indonesia—and during one dive yesterday, our computers reported water temperatures of 15ºC (59ºF)! This is totally unheard of in this part of Indonesia.

Today's diving started out rather typically, with two productive critter dives. During one dive, we saw and photographed five different Rhinopias sp. scorpionfish. Three of them were new individuals, which means that the dive site, named "Mucky Mosque" for the mosque it is located in front of, is home to at least seven individual rhinopias (rather extraordinary for a single site). We decided to go back to a site called "Slugfest" for the third dive of the day. At the site are two pregnant xeno crabs (Xenocarcinus tuberculatus) and dozens of species of nudibranchs and other pretty sea slugs. About 45 minutes into the dive, photographer Julian Cohen and I were at around 85' engrossed in photographing one of the xeno crabs. Cold water had seeped up from the depths earlier in the dive, and there was a noticeable thermocline. Suddenly, we noticed a huge, milky, white cloud ascending from the deep. In no time at all, the white cloud enveloped us, and we saw that the gigantic formation was comprised of million—if not billions—of tiny fish fry. The fish cloud completely covered the reef, and vertically-blessed corals (like long wire corals) jutted outed of the milky mass like tall trees emerging from fog. As the giant school of fry hit the shallow reef, it changed formation, branching out into hundreds of rivulets, each snaking organically around any coral formations in the way. Tentacle movements were not unlike the water creature from the movie, "Abyss." With so much food in the water, reef denizens went berserk. Fish by the hundreds shot out into the water column, gulping down the little fry in a frenzy of feeding. But there were nowhere near enough predators to affect the overall population.

Photographer Julie Edwards was confused. "Nothing was eating them! I was expecting a whale shark to show up."

Indeed, the bulk of the huge mass of fry simply blanketed the reef in a virtual atmosphere of baby fish bodies. Unfortunately, all of us photographers had entered the water expecting to photograph tiny (individual) marine critters, and had configured our cameras as macro rigs. Since we couldn't take any pictures, we just sort of floated around, gawking in disbelief at the strange marine spectacle. A guide was carrying my 3D GoPro setup. I tracked him down in order to retrieve the camera, and captured some basic footage of the scene. The footage I captured pales in comparison with what we actually saw, but I was glad that I was at least able to capture some of it. I'll upload it when I return from Indonesia.

I forgot to sign up for this last year, hoping to dethrone Carter (although that might be impossible as he seems to be one of those people with a ridiculously high tolerance).

So I signed BOTH V and I up for this thing, and of course she'd get picked for it.

On Monday, September 17, 2012; Dr. Eanes removed the lens from my left eye and implanted a ReSTOR lens. Like many other patients, my brain remembered the circumstances from last Monday, and I woke up while he was doing the surgery. I felt no pain, but I could see the lights above and hear everyone talking in the OR. Unlike the first surgery, I was awake enough to move from the table to lounge chair for recovery. Like the other day, I drank some apple juice, got dressed, walked to the RR across the hall, and saw Dr. Eanes. We drove to his office, picked up a tray of food, and ate breakfast at Denny's before Jim drove me back home.

Dr. Eanes says that I experienced what he calls "Second Eye Syndrome." He would like for a medical student to study this phenomenon. The patient stays asleep with the anesthesia during the surgery of the first eye. Using the same medicines, the brain seems to remember the circumstances and "wakes up" during the surgery on the second eye. There is no pain, but I could see through a blue covering on my face; see the lights on the ceiling, hear whirring noises of equipment, and hear the nurses conversing with Dr. Eanes. The doctor seemed to realize that I was awake because he spoke directly to me, "I'm going to move your head down." It was not a horrible situation....just strange. I can still hear the music that was playing in the OR before they started my IV with the sedative, a piano playing "The Old Rugged Cross." I almost sang along, but I didn't want to distract the nurses. :D

Jim was my human tripod. And....remember that Dr. Eanes was Jim's Chemistry student years ago!

Email is a great point to point messaging system. Email is also good for distributing information to a group of people who we think are interested in that bit of information.

This does not always work; people want to know things they are interested in. They also want to pull out the information rather then pushed. Internet forum or message board is a great way of achieving that.

People can ask question, get answers by the community or authority, message is saved for future reference. The message is also saves as a thread which gives a better understanding on the conversation. A search option makes the forum even more accessible.

There are various ways of starting a forum. You can start with hosted forum powered yahoo/google, or you can start your own one. Business organization probably would like to have their own forum to have better control and security like myBB, PhpBB, vBulletin. Internet forum is also known as bulletin boards.

Moodle has its in-build forum module. The initial purpose was to use forum for better learning delivery as a part of the course, however forum can be used independently just as a discussion group.

A usual, first I apologise for my strange English (and then I dream

you sometimes answer to me in Spanish or French just for me to laugh

too…)

But anyway, today's subject is not that easy to speak about:

Environment… Look at it for real; polluting is so good …Not that we

enjoy destroying the Planet but all our activities are piling up

stuff that we do not know what to do with it…

Who want to loose his access to progress ? …

Who is ready to stop using his car, motorbike, cellular phone, air

con. and so on?

...Or so just to stop dreaming to get one… We know that everything we

touch is pollution before, when, and after we use it… even vegetables

are now riddled with pesticides and spoiled by genetic manipulation.

Everything we touch.

I say the problem is that we all think that it will stop when the big

factories, chemical labs and other big pollution culprits will start

taking care and come up with cleaner proposals… So indeed we do nothing

and we say: You First… But… as Profit is driving the world, it 's

difficult to expect big pollution actors to have spontaneous

reactions…so first, all of us have to care about our own gardens,

surround providersdings, Countries…

It is probably more clever than waiting … and die by suffocation,

radiation, poisonning or other modern consequences…. And it's not that

far… check the rivers and the supposedly drinkable water coming from

underground reserves, look how the dangerous peaks are rising up…

If it was only the richest countries concerned… but the poors also

Want to produce pollution … they have been missing so long and they

just begin to … and they spoil faster as they go straight to new

technologies without clear vision of impact….

Environment is a new issue, look behind in Europe: the car invasion

begun really in the 60's , and plastic bag the same, remember the

beaches and countryside five years after…. 30 years of school

education, large communication campaigns and hard penalties are only

starting to take effect … let's say that we all know now where is the

rubbish place … using it or not shows a degree of insertion in those

societies…And populations now are more or less aware about the danger of

using certain products or materials…

But what can we do in countries that just opened to modern world ?

For example in Cambodia what should we do or say, first? What should

we begin with? What are the priorities?…

Hey hey do not answer all in the same time, I can not follow you …

Listen : from 21st November to 4th December Bhor All in Art Centre

organise a big festival which will focusing about pollution and

environment … A stage with big free performances, and the 1200 m2 of

Bhor building totally transformed into an interactive exhibition with

actors driving you in…

So all your propositions matters to us : about new techniques (like

Mr Biodiesel who will be with us) about recycling, re-using (like

this Australian org. using old plastic bags to built roofs, not

eternal but an interesting second life to these bags.) any information

is precious…. Jump aboard!

You ? what could you do ? you have a good idea about anti wasting ?

you could present some thing on stage ? ( like Epic Arts, or the

Mekong Pirates,CCF…) would you like to share IEC material, human

resources or naturally some money to help producing this event (like

B.inc, Mlop tapang, Bhor, SCA … ) Do not be shy, contact us…. And join

the big Event…

Looks like Xlortho just got an email! I wonder who it's from? One of his pod mates? His maternal birthing unit? The Galactic Senate?

Nope, it's just from a Nigerian prince.

I participated in Beginner Line Dance class at the Senior Center. Then I worked out with my trainer at the country club fitness center. Next I drove to Publix and bought some groceries for us. I did not have water aerobics or swim lesson today. My teacher had a meeting at work plus it was sprinkling rain and lightning.

BTW: It has been neat communicating with David; in Dublin, Ireland; about my upcoming trip there. He has been very helpful with information.
