At the start of the walk, swans on the Semois river and at the end of the walk a barnacle goose on the Vierre lake.

The end of the video is shaking, because my dog Lewis was trying to dry himself on my jeans after falling into the lake while digging a hole

The very best way to read emails.

Did we really just cross that? No bridges up here.... but at least the sun has come out.

Harrier, feeding on domestic pigeon, The attitude is reaction to another Harrier flying over

During the winter months in Manchester and early spring there is very little direct sunlight in the city due to all the high rise buildings. Advertising Trans Pennine Express , tram no 3047 is seen descending from Deansgate Castlefield

The pier, an empty section of the marina, and the official Flathead Lake tour boat are the feature attractions in this sunset shot taken up at the Kwataqnuk Resort in Polson, Montana. Yes, and the dramatic sky and water highlights were serious and very appreciated contributors to the over-all scene as well.

There was the Pony Express!

The Pony Express mail service operated for only 18 months from April 1860 to October 1861 before it fell victim to the transcontinental telegraph.

Riders would gallop along a 1,966 mile route from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California where upon the mail would be taken upon a steamer to be sent down to San Francisco. Because the mail was delivered by riders on horseback rather than stagecoaches mail could be delivered between the Pacific and Atlantic coasts by ten days.

The Pony Express Monument in Old Sacramento, California commemorates the first Eastbound ride which started at this exact spot at 2:46 a.m. on April 4,1860, when Sam Hamilton started his first lap of the 1,966 mile trip to St. Joseph, Missouri.

Old Sacramento, California is located on the Sacramento River and is minutes from the State Capitol. It has the highest collection of "Gold Rush" era buildings and is registered as a National and California Historic Landmark.

Kudos to the young men of the Pony Express who endured inclement weather and treacherous terrain to deliver mail, while today I sit at my computer and send electronic email to thousands of people all over the world in a blink of an eye!

My first entry for the dyxum.com photo competition "modern vs vintage"

This bright green shrimp lives inside a large Didemnum molle tunicate. I can't find it any of the critter ID books I own, so maybe someone out there can help me get an ID. We did a night dive in Alor, and many of the Didemnum molle tunicates contained critters living inside of them (I saw 2 different shrimps and an amphipod). All of the critters fled from lights, and getting this picture took over half an hour of careful planning and execution. Photo by Eric Cheng, taken with Canon 7D, 100mm macro lens, Nauticam underwater housing, Light & Motion Sola 600 focus light, 2 x Ikelite DS-125 strobes.

Update: this shrimp has been identified as a Periclimenaeus storchi. It isn't a true snapping shrimp. Source: wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=43993
