Elephants are always a favorite and I got a lot of great shots of the crew.

You can check out the whole set of my images from today at the zoo over on my website at: www.hovering.com/gallery/main.php/v/portland/oregonzoo/

Thanks!

No, no-one in risk of being trampled. These are tame Pinnawala elephants being led to their morning bath at the river bank. Still it's a once in a lifetime experience to have this mass of giants stomp by. I'll never again fall for believing elephants were kind of sluggish.

Luang Prabang, Laos - July 2015

Important note: this is part of the full day experience we did at Elephant Village in Luang Prabang. It is a sanctuary for elephants who otherwise would be out "earning their keep" in logging activities, many of whom are worked to death, even if they are sick, old, or disabled. During our experience they were treated very well and the care for these elephants were obvious in the village. See www.elephantvillage-laos.com/

philly zoo. unfortunately, all the elephants are being moved to other zoos in the nation. the next time we go they will have permantently closed the elephant exhibit at the Philadelphia Zoo. Sad.

Unlike the other elephants we saw on this trip - in packs, surrounded by young - this guy was all on his own. Ratik recognized him, due to that broken right tusk, as an elephant known for charging vehicles (probably how the tusk got that way). He eyed us for a moment, making me a little nervous, before taking off to chase after some giraffes. Rude!
