From trunk to toe, Asia’s largest land mammal displays some amazing adaptations to life as a forest-dwelling herbivore. It is most famous for its trunk, which is indispensable for feeding, drinking, smelling, touching, communicating, and bathing. Asian elephants live in family groups called herds that are led by older, experienced females.

Luang Prabang, Laos - July 2015
Important note: this is part of the full day experience we did at Elephant Village in Luang Prabang. It is a sanctuary for elephants who otherwise would be out "earning their keep" in logging activities, many of whom are worked to death, even if they are sick, old, or disabled. During our experience they were treated very well and the care for these elephants were obvious in the village. See www.elephantvillage-laos.com/
