The backdrop is a rare glimpse into the magical process of development à la Wibatt. I copied and tweaked the power supply section from Dieter the Nixie Man's IN-1 clock schematic, printed it out, then did a bit of fiddling around to get a general idea of whether all the parts would fit on the little board (half of a Radio Shack 276-148, snapped along the handy perforation). They did, so I did a further bit of fiddling to find a reasonable layout so that the parts that needed to connect to one another were near each other, and so on. Not too much, because this project is all about not spending all my time planning.
Then, I just did a bunch of soldering, using the schematic as a guide, until I figured it was done. Then I went through all the connections in the schematic, making sure they all existed - I'd overlooked a couple - and crossing them off. Then, I made sure none of the bits that weren't supposed to touch were shorted together, and THEN it was time to test it. The result? Volts! Lots and lots of volts yay!

Originally, I wanted to do a macro series of every Intel Pentium Processor chip that has been created, or perhaps more of a chronology of computer processing chips, but I was unable to obtain them in time for a class project I was doing this for. So, these are various parts to electronic devices such as remote controls, alarm clocks, computer keyboards, etc. I used a 60mm macro w/ an extension tube and primarily lit them from behind with a flash gun and filled in the front with on-cam flash.

Less than the smart phone. The PC it was purchased in November 2015. Because it was half price at the time sale of Amazon, impulse buying without any purpose. When you try to use to try while you are out to repair the main PC, Web, of course, to the movie is seen, in use as a sub-PC because Nikon NX-D was also moving.

I bought a dozen or so of these guys on eBay some years ago, good and cheap. They're used, but in good shape - those that I've tested light up just fine. Unfortunately most of the label-paint has worn off so I don't know how old they are. One that's more or less readable seems to have the date code 6821 which, if I read it right, means it was manufactured in the 21st week of 1968, so around late May or early June.
It's a coincidence that the penny is dated 1968 - but maybe that should have been a clue!
Yea! After about 100 screws and taking every part of my laptop off including the monitor, motherboard off and out am back up and running. My fan started making noises a few weeks ago so I knew I needed to get a new one. Stupid thing cost over $80 because HP will only send a heatsink/fan assembly instead of a $5 fan like you can in a desktop. What a project. I now remember why I quit working on laptops. Anyway I am finally done so as soon as I can find time to use my newly resembled computer I can catch up on everyone’s photos.

Unhappy Tivo. If it doesn't recover, my progress on The Ledger is going to be in serious trouble.
Update: It lives! It was in a recovery state for at least 6 hours, probably much longer, but it came back and all my shows are intact. The miracle of self-healing electronics never ceases to astound me.
Update: It went down again. I'm hoping for another miracle. I'm guessing it had to do with running out of disk space, and it became unstable when its "unofficial" second hard drive filled up.
