My Kaypro 1 running Wordstar.
The Kaypro 1 was the last cp/m portable (actually the last new portable period) released by Kaypro.
In 1985 Kaypro had released the 16 and 16/2 which were MSDOS machines, the following year it seems Kaypro axed all of the cp/m series and introduced the 1 as their sole cp/m offering.
A lot of websites claim the 1 to basically be a Kaypro 2x with vertical drives and no modem. Actually it's much more like a Kaypro 10 without a hard drive than it is a 2x. The mainboard is not the universal board that the 2x shared with the 4 and the new2. The mainboard in the 1 is actually basically like the one used in the 10. Why Kaypro did this I do not know. Excess kaypro 10 inventory? In any event the vertical drives and the location of the power led, and ports and jacks are like those of the 10, and not of the 2x.
In seems the 1 was probably around until Kaypro got rid of all their 8 bit parts. It was certainly available in 1986 and 1987, and may have carried into 1988. Probably the kaypro 1 was the last cp/m computer offered by any major company. Cp/m was already dead in the water by 1985, in 1987 it would have been an anachronism.

This has to be one of the last film point&shoot cameras Pentax made. At the first glance, it almost looks like a digital! It is still available at Amazon.com. Does anyone want to buy it for $571? I am willing to sell it at a fraction of this price! Ha! Update: The used prices have come down!

hm, today I recived my christmas present, a RC Buggy (Ansmann DNA). I love it, but the first thing I did to it was torching it's cruise controller by reverse polarity (Lithium Polymer accumulator @7,4Volts/5000mAh).
*SLAP* at least it was a cheaper brushed controller. Next month I can exchange it for a brush less motor/controller combo. For now I ordered a 7 Euro spare.

So, awhile back I posted a general post about the sadness of the state of product support, in the electronics industry.

A call to Sony provided an example exchange of the customer service sadness.
Well, Sony "did me right" so I didn't want to be one of those folks who only writes the negative.
The recap: My Alpha A77 camera screen was scratched in some Mardis Gras mayhem. Recalling a previous Alpha camera had a protective film on the screen, I attempted to locate that protective film on the screen and managed to pull back the corner of the LCD screen with my prying fingernails.
I just made it worse and I'm not one to be hard on gear. I tend to keep things pristine.
Understanding the fault was my own and expecting to pay for the repair, I engaged Sony for a replacement LCD. They expressed that I would have to mail the camera to them for an estimate. Of course, any damage I did to the LCD wouldn't be covered under warranty.
Yesterday, Sony shipped the repaired camera back to me, for delivery this week.
Free of charge.
Thanks for doing me right, Sony. I'm excited to have two fantastic cameras to work with now.
