Full moon setting over Edmonton on January 2, 2018. A full lunar eclipse will occur on January 31st, but latest GFS Cloud model (NOAA) is forecasting 100% cloud cover for most of Alberta. Northern California looks clear, haha
NB: The moon is blown out because as much as I'd like to show how I saw it, it's not possible without turning the moon into a cartoon.

After working Jasper Ave at sunset, walked east toward the Hyatt Place. Looked fantastic as usual but surrounded by decay and unfinished work. Ugh. That's why I included the tilting street light, black/orange barriers, etc.
Gorgeous and visionary, hope it's not a 'bridge too far' as the Quarters District is slowly rejuvenated.

Winter is now here. The river is frozen. The hazy that persisted for days as the cold Arctic air undercut the warmer moist air has gone. The skies are clear and sunny, and most important the cold wind from the north-west is much calmer now. Nice winter conditions. Dry - everything is frozen.

When he was a little boy living in TB I would drive him around the city to see the Christmas lights. I remember how excited he was and how he would squeal "Christmas lights" every time we saw a house lit up with lights for Christmas. Now that Grandma is in her second childhood, he drove me around his neighbourhood to see the Christmas lights. I didn't squeal but I did ooh and aah and take photos.

Edmonton is an October sort of city even in spring. Glass pyramid on a snow front.

Edmonton received about 10-15cm this weekend, the pow pow stuff, light and fluffy. Very quiet too.
View from the furthest edge of the platform.
The Western Cycle building came down this week in order to make way for the Valley Line West LRT expansion. The iconic store and its sign stood on 124 Street for 80 years. I shot this photo in August 2019.
The sign was salvaged for the Edmonton neon sign museum.

Winter in Edmonton, Alberta. A surprisingly pleasant evening to catch the lights of Muttart Conservatory and Downtown looking across the North Saskatchewan River.

Overview of the funicular (out of service) leading down the stairs and over to the platform, and elevator tower.
Moon rising in the distance.
The sun is setting quite far in the north at this time of year. And it has rained. And look at all the vegetation! It`s summertime.
Edmonton Skyline. Downton in Edmonton.
That is the view from the south and taken to the downtown.

This picture captures a number of features including downtown Edmonton. It also captures the newest bridge (LRT with pedestrian walkway underneath) and Accidental beach, created by the change in water flow by the construction dams while the bridge was being built.
Ok, here is the sunset image I captured yesterday. I have a few different variations of this scene, but I think this one captured the colours at their peak.
Check out the image on the website with the link below, it looks much better over there! (there's also some more Edmonton photos you may not have seen yet)

Have been kind of busy over Christmas and just getting around to posting this. Cheers to all of my Flickr friends and all the best in 2020.
Went out tonight and try to shoot the aurora over the city, but they didn't appear. I've seen others make amazing panos of Edmonton's skyline, so thought I'd have a go. It was -18'c, so didn't last too long, ha ha. The white flood lights illuminate the construction of the new Walterdale Bridge
