This is one of my most favourite photos I've taken in a while. Gardom's Edge is a beautiful and calming place to relax. Conditions were perfect.

Edge

Every year at the end of May there is a festival of art in Dumfries and Galloway called Spring Fling. It celebates all types of art from every corner of the region.

We make time to spend this weekend travelling around the region looking at and enjoying as much of the art as we can, and making the odd little purchase along the way.

The one item that caught our imagination was an outdoor installation called 'Edge' on the shoreline of Carrick a few miles from Kirkcudbright.

This is the first image from the location showing the working organ on the shoreline, which gives a idea of the kind of art you will find, a few more images will be added to show some of the other items on the waters edge.

This is the press release for the installation below..

"EDGE

Let EDGE whisper to you of parted lovers, lost sailors and forgotten journeys.

EDGE is a ghost tideline that follows and entwines with the existing one at Carrick Foreshore, formed using detritus collected along the coast together with curious objects and artifacts large and small, given to, created or found by the artists. These clusters of objects form fragments of mysterious narratives and forgotten stories, some real, some imagined, some playful, others full of sadness and loss. The stories explore the nature of the link between this land and distant places and become part of the ancient tidal conversion between the sea and the shore.

The new tideline will be full of surprises, mysteries and revelations and visitors will be able to explore details of the work using the age-old skills of beach combing."

Edge is the work of artists Robbie Coleman and Jo Hodges

The building “The Edge” is an eleven-storey glass prism. An office building with a dynamic expression. Its continuous glass facade interplays between transparent, translucent and opaque. A true signature building in its neighborhood.

Macro Mondays: Edge.

In this shot of the Pacific Tree Frog (Hyla regilla), there are two edges represented.

Edge 1: I was trying to capture the leaf edge to show how thin the support structure was for it's perch, a Blueberry plant; which nevertheless, is sufficiently strong enough to support the frog's small 3/4 - 2 inch frame.

Edge 2: The most important edge of all. Amphibian's populations worldwide are declining rapidly and becoming extinct (approx. 200 sp. to date), due to chytridiomycosis, a fungal infection. The fungus is in British Columbia, and from what data I could gather, the Rough-skin Newts and Western Toads are among those at risk.

The Pacific Tree Frog, so far, has not been affected. This could be due to the fact that the frogs with extra moist skin, who like to sun themselves for longer, kill the fungus on their skin with the sun's heat.

So, this shot, which I darkened the surroundings to represent the impending doom for so many species worldwide, stands for those amphibians hovering on the edge of non-existence.

Another clear sky sunrise. But I thought, if I miss this one, I'd miss the valley filled with mist, especially after yesterday's rain.

This was one of the last shots of the morning. A composition I've never noticed before.

The midges were awful.

Went back to Erieau this weekend and found much better skies. Although most of the ice had melted from the inlet there was still a few crystals near the edge as seen in the bottom right. The clouds kept rolling in and out giving this cool reflection. The tall orange glow on the horizon is from some burn off or tower on the other side of the lake near Cleveland. It really stood out tonight. Further out on the lake you can see the ice is still floating on top. Loving this K 10D.......5 min @f 5.6 100 iso...
