After sustained and strong development in the 1960s and 1970s, the Caribbean’s economic growth has been slow over the past two decades. Caribbean nations are confronting a range of deep macroeconomic, financial, and structural challenges, as well as persistent violent crime, high energy costs, constrained access to credit, the high cost of doing business, and frequent natural disasters. In the face of these many obstacles, what is the path to unleashing growth and strengthening resilience in the Caribbean?
The Inter-American Dialogue is pleased to partner with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to host a panel of experts for a discussion focused on structural impediments to sustained economic growth in the Caribbean.
December 13, 2017-Albany, NY-Governor Andrew Cuomo announces the 2017 Regional Economic Development Awards (REDC) in Albany
The Bastrop Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) groundbreaking for Johnson Architectural Metal Company, (JAMCo) on its Texas headquarters and manufacturing facility in Bastrop. The company is a commercial construction contractor that provides custom glass building envelopes for high-rise office facilities nationwide. The new manufacturing operation, a $2.26 million, 30,100 square foot plant located in the Bastrop Business and Industrial Park at the intersection of South Jackson Street and South Street just south of Hwy 71.
The Government of British Columbia and BC Ferries are committing to a seasonal direct ferry service between Port Hardy and Bella Coola to support Aboriginal tourism and the mid-coast economy, Premier Christy Clark announced.
This service will begin by the 2018 summer tourism season. A search is underway for an appropriate used vessel to make that happen.
