If it's you, then it's me
and when it's you
I can clearly see
all that we can truly be
if only life could let it be
so to Spring we now turn
as if Winter never happened
upon our lowest ebb
the question answers instead
for the puzzles that lie ahead
of all we roam in sickness and in health
this is no ordinary world, or life at that
for every unblinking stoke
of the fire of silhouetted Oak
within the given hope it may invoke
it's the unflinching stipulation of life over departure
fluvial or landbased, aviating dreams earthbound
every reason is contraindicative
meandering flight of aquatic contrail still active
we're here to stay so long as we can forgive...
..any reason under the Sun
why we shouldn't celebrate a world
of yours, of mine, of one of a kind
that offers the path when combined
to the place so desired and divined.

Looking more like a hairy space alien than an earthbound tree, this moss covered, root infested Sitka Spruce reposed in the Hoh Rain Forest. I wondered what you would find within those tentacles if you were to look. To be honest, I was a little scared to wade in and check it out.

At first, I was cursing the giant streetlamp left on at the nearby visitor centre.
I had no option but to shoot anyway and then see if I could fix it on post.
After editing the image however, I decided that I actually really enjoyed that warm light on that impressive pinnacle.
If you've ever shot a moonscape in the dead of night, you'll recognize the look of sunlight bouncing off the moon and lighting earthbound subjects a lot like this.

In the final photo I posted yesterday you would have seen the long range shot from the George Town lookout. Ten kilometres away is the promontory known as Low Head. Low Head is now synonymous with its iconic lighthouse.
Here is a shot with my Tamron SP Di VC USD G2 600mm lens. This is a fine lens and there is nothing wrong here with it or my Autofocus. This is a perfect example of the effects of wind and haze on long distance landscapes. Let me explain with a little physics lesson. [All those years watching Prof. Julius Sumner Miller when I grew up have born fruit. www.facebook.com/Igrewupinmortdale2223/videos/professor-j... ]
First, haze is simply the scattering of light off minute dust particles in the air. In drier conditions it is always more hazy and especially when it is windy. The wind whips up dust from the ground and these particles fill the air. As the photons of light strike them they are scattered making the air seem "hazy".
Second, the effect of wind is more noticeable the further one is away from the object. Wind is simply moving air or turbulence. Now 10 kilometres of distance means a lot of air is between us and the Low Head lighthouse. You can see that turbulence very clearly in this "failed" photograph. Nothing can be done to sharpen this shot because the air is shimmering with the turbulence of the wind and another form of haze in summer conditions: Heat haze. Heat haze is rising pockets of warmer air which is reflected off the surface of the earth.
Now this is a small scale disturbance of "seeing" (as astronomers call it). And this is the reason why the Hubble Space Telescope, beyond the reaches and turbulence of the earth's atmosphere, can see deeper into the universe than much larger earthbound telescopes.
So there is nothing I could do in these conditions to get a good long shot. But this photograph is useful for the lesson it provides us.

The days, and the days, and the days
where are they, have they now gone forever?
heroic friends fade away in a mysterious haze
then my mind was flying, now but a fluvial anchor
it's an unusual pain, more akin to suffocation
chocked emotions of lost realisations sinking-in
alerting me like raindrops only just beginning to waken
to touch the surface where numbness weigh's-in
without so much as a shout, more a whisper
ghostly silence follows, awaiting it's new life and new dawn
but why this heart remains earthbound and out of favour?
so many things I cannot answer where light has begone
forever outpaced by time, and again, these legs fail me
a dream begot the nightmare became the reality
how overt the pains outselling peacetime by degree
plummetting coldness holds fort in a Winter waging war surrealistically
where it came from no-one knows, for where it goes is voguish
it's easier to switch times when it's all used up
and to throw all away when it's very contents are all you cherish
the volant of illusionary wishes and mourning for the lives we so worship.

A New Day
(James Watkins)
A new day begins-
earthbound-
ethereal-
flying around.
Unseen mists of morning-
open ocean green,
blue spouted spray queens-
in darkened emerald dreams.
Violent moodiness of
ancient ocean floors.
Standing silent-
stopped-
by solid sentinel gray doors.
Open your ears and
hear the ancient song-
for we are a breath-
a whisper-
and then gone.
Gray white clouds in
measured morning light,
stretch forth ghostly hands
to distant horizon heights.
Flowing sands,
rich soft pillows rising,
foam waters rolled –
Reflectioned sweet-
blessings stormy,
and daggered deep.
Footpaths fallen-
though carefully called-
lie brooding-
waiting-
silently enthralled.
Come, full- birthed,
appearing quickly
thing of ancient beauty-
aging stars of light-
bright brilliant singing,
resisting evil night.
Bring your watchers
high and steep-
strong on hidden walls,
soft from winters sleep-
unchained mystic music-
mighty opening keys-
darkened dormant dominions-
breath of living wings.
Blown now by fire,
frenzied furnace hot-
desperate with desire,
of beauty that is not.
Frozen mountain stars-
regal, reigning,
galaxies unfurled.
Swirling, dancing destinies-
on anxious alien worlds.
Future hope through
eyes that can not see-
guarded pathways of
mundaned revelry.
Massive mountain darkness,
night mystery and pearl,
deadly wicked wonders,
no heavenly theme
imperiled.
Dying dreams-
sprung to life-
soon escaped
from winters white.
Ephemeral future-
celestially veiled,
tossed and lifeless,
embattled and assailed.
Come forth now,
by seasons force,
to plans of old-
now lend your voice.
Creation sounds,
that groan and sway,
walking free forever-
with joy,
for one more,
glorious
day.

Tree Pipits arrive in the UK from their wintering grounds during April. The species is very much a bird of forest edge and open clearings with isolated trees, from which the males launch themselves into their impressive displays, flying high into the air before parachuting earthbound whilst all the time singing their beautiful song.

I love to garden and have a bench similar to this but not in an actual greenhouse...this was at Earthbound Gardens near Red Bay, On while we were away in the summer.

Celebrating Flight
Year: 2007
Artist: Don Yeomans

The central element of this installation is a carved and painted pole, one that blends Haida forms and traditions together with cross-cultural references and contemporary allusions. The intention of the pole's artist, Don Yeomans, is to honour humankind for transcending our earthbound existence by creating machines that enable us to fly. At the top of the pole is the Creator Raven and below him is the figure of a man. The Northwest Coast images are combined with references to European and Asian cultures through Celtic knot-work and Chinese characters, the latter denoting "Heaven," "Earth," "Pride" and "Civilization."
I wasn't trying to get a nice picture out of this, just having some fun. So it is noisy but still amazing that our earthbound equipment can capture these things!

The Annapurna Sanctuary is “high glacial basin lying forty kilometers directly north of Pokhara. This oval-shaped plateau sits at an altitude of over 4000 meters, and is surrounded by a ring of mountains, the Annapurna range, most of which are over 7000 meters. With the only entrance a narrow pass between the peaks of Hiunchuli and Machapuchare, where run-off from glaciers drain into Modi Khola River, the Sanctuary was not penetrated by outsiders until 1956. Because of high mountains on all sides, the Annapurna Sanctuary receives only 7 hours of sunlight a day at the height of summer.
The unique combination of heights and depths in the Annapurna Sanctuary give rise to an extraordinary variety of ecosystems. The south-facing slope are “covered in dense tropical jungles of rhododendron and bamboo”, while the north-facing slopes, in the rain shadow, have “a drier colder climate similar to that of the near-by Tibetan Plateau.
The entire sanctuary was held as sacred to the Gurung people, one of the many native people to inhabit the area. They believed it was the repository of gold and various treasures left by the Nāgas, the serpent-gods known in India. The sanctuary was believed to be the home of several deities, from Hinduism and Buddhism as well the older animistic gods. The peak of Machapuchare at the entrance was believed to be the home of the god Shiva, and the daily plumes of snow were thought the smoke of his divine incense. Until recently, the local Gurang people forbade anyone from bringing eggs or meat into the Annapurna Sanctuary, and women and untouchables were prohibited from going there as well.
In recent years, the number of trekkers to the Sanctuary has increased substantially, in part because the Sanctuary forms the base of one of the major routes to the peaks of the Annapurna range. The Annapurna Sanctuary is now part of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project, which places restrictions on number of outside travelers, gathering of firewood, and domestic animal grazing.
Thanks to Earthbound Expeditions for having organized this expedition.
Standing above the cloud line in the Pyrenees, I witnessed one of nature's most humbling spectacles - ancient granite peaks emerging like islands from an endless sea of mist. In this moment, the mountains revealed their dual nature: both earthbound giants and ethereal spirits dancing with the clouds.
My intention was to capture the profound solitude and mystical quality of high-altitude landscapes, where the boundary between earth and sky dissolves into poetry. I chose black and white to strip away all distractions, focusing purely on form, light, and atmosphere. The monochrome treatment emphasizes the timeless dialogue between solid stone and ephemeral mist that has played out here for millennia.
This image represents what draws me to mountain photography - those rare moments when weather and light conspire to reveal landscapes in their most sublime state. Above the clouds, surrounded by silence broken only by wind and stone, you realize how small yet connected we are to these ancient sentinels. Sometimes the most powerful mountain images aren't about conquest or adventure, but about surrender to the overwhelming beauty of wild places.

The November crescent moon sets over the city of Philadelphia. How about a little fact session now?
Why is it red? When the Sun, Earth and moon line up so that the moon passes through the Earth’s shadow, the moon looks red. It appears as a red color due to sunlight scattered through the Earth’s atmosphere. This light appears reddish for the same reason that a sunset or sunrise does: the Rayleigh scattering of bluer light.
Why is it so large? Compression. Telephoto lenses will magnify the moon. It will also make buildings and other objects bigger, but by moving yourself further away from those earthbound objects you can reduce them back to a smaller size. Since you can't really get further away from the moon, it will remain the same size no matter where you move. I was miles and miles away from the city here.

Into the distance a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction holding me fast how
Can I escape this irresistible grasp?
Can't keep my eyes from the circling sky
Tongue tied and twisted Just an earthbound misfit, I
Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to find my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone
A soul in tension that's learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling sky
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I
Above the planet on a wing and a prayer,
My grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air,
Across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
A dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night
There's no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, A state of bliss
Can't keep my mind from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I

Earthbound to be confined by it.

Wrenched from family and familiar
twisted, turning, crashing earthbound.
Unnoticed yet underfoot-
color sleeping away with life's blood,
layer after layer of flesh eroded.
A delicate filigree , uncovered
exposing what once pulsed with vitality
a framework shaken, breaking apart
unable to withstand
Mother Nature;
a return to womb
life force'd
underground.

They say is coming down

For what it's worth
I pledge allegiance to this land
And my Mother Earth

I adore my friend Alexand! He has the absolute best parties! This time it was a Pajama Party but we were to jazz it up some for the Peter Pan Neverland theme.
In RL I sleep in soft cotton gym shorts with old T-shirts. And I thought of this old shirt I bought ages ago (like 2010) with Elmo on it. Paired it with flouncy pink shorts from Gawk! and an oversized cardigan for a robe from Amias. I brought my favorite teddy bear and braided my Rama hair. And to add a bit of whimsy why not a tiara and sparkly jewels from Heartsdale Jewellry

With the closing of the year comes a light in the darkness, the hope of a new start, a better world.
Aloha kākou! Perhaps we're still a month off from the Solstice, from Christmas, from Hanukkah, from the Season of Light... but it's been a difficult year, and the light and hope that that season brings can't come too early for me.
Bee and Solace from Silvan Moon Designs bring us the lovely Prima Donna gown, a lovely exclusive at Enchanted this month.
Prima Donna comes in seven beautiful colours. I fell in love with several of them... but the holiday feeling hit me so strongly that I just had to share Emerald with you. The Holly crown from .AiShA. and the Pointsettia 'n Bells necklace and earrings from EarthStones just matched too perfectly to miss!
And lastly... please stop by and visit the lovely Savor Serenity sim. My dear friend Gidgy is one of the most wonderful sim builders I know. Please stop by and enjoy the beauty there!
My lovely friends, don't miss a single opportunity to find joy, to encourage joy. Aloha nō!
