Ahead of Earth Hour, we held a candle making workshop with the community on Monday. These are some of the candles we made!

On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone. Instructions for a successful Earth hour:
1. Boil kettle for ample tea supplies.
2. Cook gingernuts earlier in the day for ample biscuit-dunking supplies.
3. Light candles.
4. Turn off lights, turn off computer, turn off stereo.
5. Locate cat as to avoid awkward feline ambulation accidents.
6. Read by candlelight until hour is up.
7. Continue until tea needs boiling again.

At 8:30 PM Saturday, some of the world's most famous landmarks will go dark for Earth Hour 2012. From the Empire State Building to the Great Wall of China, non-essential lighting will be turned off at important locations around the globe.
Earth Hour, a global initiative led by World Wildlife Fund, encourages individuals around the world to shut off their lights on Saturday March 31 for one hour, beginning at 8:30 PM in each time zone.

At 8:30 pm on 26 March we turned off our lights to celebrate Earth Hour and to remind us of the fragility of our planet.
My 2 year old granddaughter and her generation will inherit the planet we leave them and possibly see it into the 22nd century.
Her world is in our hands.
