March 27, 2010, 8:30-9:30 EST. Though I have to say that this actually isn't too different from many Saturday nights (and others), when we dim the lights and light some candles.
As I sat in the darkness, I picked-up my camera to attempt a photograph of my Earth Hour experience; by it's nature, an interesting challenge since photography is primarily based on light, as opposed to the absence of it. As I got wrapped up in reflection - the loneliness of darkness, my seemingly natural instinct to seek out light, realizing that I am constantly surrounded by light, etc - I made this self-portrait.
As you can see from the background, I'm in the midst of moving. So for all you 'roof-top photo die-hards', I'm breaking you the news now, you'll soon have to get used to a whole new view!
Again, since I'm moving, my tower computer is packed away. Therefore, I post-processed this shot on my laptop. Previous experiences have made me realize I often post quite dark images when not working from my main computer. So not sure if that's the case for this image too...
FYI - Second light source coming from a Petzl headlamp sitting on the table behind the wine bottles.

I need to get a stabilizer for these low-light shots. Maybe the cheap one of a string you stand on that attaches to your tripod mount...

It was actually quite a bit darker than the photo indicates. The D3 allows me to turn dank into doable.
