16/0/2018 - I've just seen the England squad. That gave me the F.E.A.R. Mind you, Gareth Southgate was a poor boy in a scantily stocked sweetie shop. Football's coming home (before the semis).

Pre dawn rays over Windang island ..
Didn't have any big expectations about the light with the bank doing its thing .. pleasantly surprised when it did throw up some rays.

This is a repost of a picture I took on our first trip to Portland, Maine. It's the "Portland Head Light Lighthouse" just outside Portland, and one of the most famous lighthouses in America.
Adam and I spent quite a bit of time, waiting to catch the rotating light at the moment it cast it's light out over the water, but the results were.. underwhelming.
Another one of those cases where the reality doesn't quite live up to the expectations we have in our minds. Like the 'sea monkeys' they used to sell in the back of the comic books, or the toys they advertise on TV with the disclaimers about 'items sold separately' (or not available at all)..
So I 'enhanced' the light in the lighthouse to more closely reflect the image I'm sure we both had in our minds while we were shivering and waiting in the dark. So sue me.. (grins..)
All I know is if I was approaching the rocky shoreline in the fog, I would hope the lighthouse put out a scorching, penetrating beam of light like this one.
An abandoned mill, full of grade II listed machinery, left to rust away under a leaky roof.
All the machinery was powered by a fast flowing river running next to the Mill.
Behind the barrels covered in ivy is a huge roller mill.
Bonus meteor shower in midst of awesome Milky Way. ? Eta Aquarids. South Sur land of wonders. I had been trying to capture the Milky Way for the last year. Finally found the secret ... get up at 3:00 am. First time camping in decades.
And then found myself in the midst of a minor meteor shower that I had not fully realized until post-processing. Beam me up Scottie.

"A mother's joy begins when new life is stirring inside...when a tiny heartbeat is heard for the very first time, and a playful kick reminds her that she is never alone."-anon
This was my first photoshoot since the passing of my dear sweet mother last month. This image really captures the emotion I feel at having recently lost my mother, and then seeing the expectations and joy of a soon to be mother. Life comes into a full circle and I am reminded of another quote that is on my mind...."If you are brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello."
Fairfield is part of the Church of England parish of Brookland and Fairfield on Walland Marsh (part of Romney Marsh) in the Shepway District of Kent, England. Until 1934 it was a civil parish, but was then absorbed into the civil parish of Snargate. The area lies west of the village of Brookland.
The area is most notable for the isolated church of St Thomas a Becket, a Grade I listed building, in the Romney Deanery.
The church has been used as a filming location, including for:

I don’t get embarrassed much anymore at my age. A psychologist might tell me that is because I have lowered my expectations of myself.
But I did feel a little uneasy a few days ago on an isolated country road. My full-time wildlife spotter and I were traversing our way alongside a large partially snow-covered field when we spotted a male and female sandhill crane stopped in a field just about 15 yards from the road.
The larger male crane was seeking to impress the uninterested female with a traditional crane mating dance, jumping high into the air, picking up some dead grass and throwing it as high as he could and just generally making a fool of himself.
He must have gotten a little discouraged the lack of response as he paused when he saw our stopped vehicle. He then left his mate and came over to the edge of the field directly in front of us. With little ado, he began a dance just for me, at least I hope it was for me.
This photo gives a pretty good view of just how enormous the wingspan is of these creatures who are now flying back to Minnesota to spend time with us.

This was one of my favorite spots…it met all my expectations… I had great and scary time there. We got there in mid afternoon and scout around for best spot to shoot at sunset…after I took this shot, I moved down to the beach and one of my friends follows…since I was down there already and the rock was kind of slippery and high, he asked me to help hold his tripod and camera…I told him let me put my camera down first, I put my camera on to of a rock about a foot high then when and grab my friend’s tripod a few feet away from my camera, at the corner of my eye I can see a big wave coming and try desperately to save my camera but it was too late. The wave knock it off the rock and soak it for a few seconds. After a few instant of panic, what the heck why worry I have Olympus gears, furthermore it’s the #EM1X … I asked my friend for his water bottle and just rince the salt water off it and blow dry it with my air blower and keep on shooting...after my misfortune with the wave I kept shooting for while, I went back to the van to change and reheat myself because it was not confortable walking around with wet feet under -6ºC (21ºF). I was sitting in the back of the van that doesn’t have any window, while my two friends are chitchatting in the front…I look up through the opening between the back cabin and the front seat and saw an orange glow and asked Jenny to open the side door for me (note to the rental company: Bad idea not to be able to open from the inside from the side sliding door) Once outside, I saw a sky that is ready to “explode” in colors…Grab my camera and tripod and just run toward the beach…then I remembered how perilous that descent was…I have to go around with will take longer…with my luck that day, I decided that I will just stuck at and around the dunes and still run like crazy to look for good composition. Here is one of my favorite catch that day. .
Here's a re-edit of a image from one of my favorite nights ever behind a camera. It was truly an amazing night in Cannon Beach, Oregon shooting Haystack Rock. We showed up with low expectations for good light, but we were blessed with amazing light this night.
sorry for overload today :) ((could not get sleep)).

p.s. tomorrow getting my 3rd film roll developed and scanned, so so excited.
This was an awesome day. We left Egilsstadir early for the drive to Myvatn. We passed a number of waterfalls (with no pullouts or names) until we came to Rjukandafoss - a beautiful waterfall with several sections. When hiked as the trail and had some great views. Nice start to the day. Back on the road to cover what is known as the Big Sky Country of Iceland - pretty much a lot of nothing. We were headed for Dettifoss - a major waterfall on my Bucket List. It exceeded expectations. Absolutely stunning visually and auditory - it is massive. I tried some long exposure with a tripod but it felt like the ground was shaking. Heather let me check out another waterfall about a mile away - Selfoss. If Dettifoss wasn't around, this would be a major destination by itself. Very different than Dettifoss but awesome on its own. I stayed for a bit and just ogled everything. Simply wow. I returned to the car and Heather dragged me off to another trail with very cool canyon views. We heard there was a third waterfall very close by so naturally we went. It was amazing. There were about 2-3 other people at Hafragilsfoss. Good God Almighty - this waterfall was spectacular - and the guidebook said this was difficult to reach with a 4x4 and best skipped. I'm glad we ignored this (the road was actually a piece of cake). Side note - the area around here looked like Martian landscape. We were in Heaven! We reluctantly headed to Myvatn - the Icelandic equivalent of Yellowstone. It was nice but we must be jaded since we live so close to Yellowstone. All in all, a very nice day, and I definitely want to go back to Dettifoss and the other falls.
I took these photos in mid-September 2021.
