Friends,

I will be spending far less time on flickr than I have in the past. I will continue to post my pictures and visit your streams from time to time as my schedule permits, but I have far too much going on in my life to devote the amount of time as i have in the recent months. I hope that i will continue to have the many friendships i have made and hope you will understand if i visit your photo streams less than l have to this point.

Anthony

LIGHT BLOOM by HYBYCOZO is a limited-time exhibit where nature and light converge. This mesmerizing display invites you to explore the Garden transformed by stunning geometric light installations that illuminate the beauty of the desert landscape in a new way. As the sun sets, LIGHT BLOOM comes to life, casting intricate shadows and vibrant hues across the Garden. Wander the trails and let the enchanting installations transport you to a magical realm where the natural world meets the abstract.

HYBYCOZO is the collaborative studio of artists Serge Beaulieu and Yelena Filipchuk. Based in Los Angeles, their work consists of larger than life geometric sculptures, often with pattern and texture that draw on inspirations from mathematics, science, and natural phenomena. Typically illuminated, the work celebrates the inherent beauty of form and pattern and represents their ongoing journey in exploring the myriad dimensions of geometry. HYBYCOZO is short for the Hyperspace Bypass Construction Zone, a nod to their favorite novel (The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) and was the title of their first installation in 2014. They continue to create under this name. In the novel earth was being destroyed to make way for a bypass. It lead Serge and Yelena to ask what it means to make art at a time where the earth’s hospitable time in the universe may be limited.

Q: Walk us through your creative process?

A: The focus of our creative process is to explore the intricate interplay between geometry, light, space and to inspire contemplation, wonder and a sense of place among our audiences. Geometry and pattern-making serve as the backbone of our creative expression. It is the framework through which we navigate the complexities of form, proportion and spatial relationships. Patterns, both simple and complex, have a profound impact on our perception and understanding of the world. They possess the ability to evoke a sense of order, balance and aesthetic pleasure. Pattern making and geometry offer us a means of storytelling and communication. These patterns serve as conduits for deeper exploration, provoking introspection and contemplation to uncover the underlying symbols embedded within the human psyche.

Q: What inspired the concept of LIGHT BLOOM?

A: Just as many cactus and desert plants have evolved to produce night-blooming flowers, adapting to their environment and thriving in darkness, our sculptures come alive after sunset, blossoming with light and transforming the night into a glowing landscape of art and geometry.

Just my idea of how a character in a Post-Apoc Assassin's Creed game should look. I decided to stick with the tomahawk idea after I recieved my lovely steel one from Shapeways, and was delighted when I discovered it was a bit rusty too :D

All the rest is pretty straight forward - I hope you like it!

Thanks,

I was browsing the backups and I found the 8 pictures I took 11 years ago to make a panorama of the Grenadier Pond in High Park, Toronto.

I made the panorama at the time and decided to do it again using a 'modern' panorama maker, Microsoft ICE in this case, just to see how this technology has evolved since then, and the result was so much better that I decided to post it here.

Now I'm thinking about redoing some other old panoramas I have here. This thing is kinda addictive...

Trans Am Totem Sculpture - Vancouver Biennale

www.vancouverbiennale.com/artworks/trans-am-totem

Vancouver Based Artist: Marcus Bowcott

Location: Quebec Street and Milross Avenue, Vancouver BC Canada

The scupture is composed of 5 actual scrap cars stacked upon an old growth tree.

Description:

10 meters/33 feet

11,340 kilograms/25,000 pounds

5 discarded scrap cars

A 20' trunk of an old-growth cedar tree from southern, Vancouver Island

From what I have read, the artwork considers our consumer ' out with the old, in with the new' culture in relation to the sites history and Vancouver's evolving identity.

The materials and objects that make up Trans Am Totem refer to the history of the place. 150 years ago the site – known today as False Creek – was shoreline, tidal flats and pristine old growth forest.

Information taken from online sources and has not been confirmed to be accurate. For more more information you might google: Trans Am Totem

This sculpture is brand new to the downtown Vancouver/False Creek area..... Please view the last three photos. I've included a few extra views to provide for a better perspective of this unique sculpture and its location.

It was fun to photograph......

Thanks for viewing ~Christie =)

(synthetic raffia) --- --- Ed Rossbach (Chicago, 1914 – Berkeley, California, October 7, 2002) was an American fiber artist. His career began with ceramics and weaving in the 1940s, but evolved over the next decade into basket making, as he experimented playfully with traditional techniques and nontraditional materials such as plastic and newspaper.

Rossbach explored the possibilities of fiber as a material, both on an off the loom. He was strongly influenced by ethnic textiles, including basketry, and often combined ethnic techniques with contemporary materials such as plastic and newspaper. His explorations of three-dimensional forms and basketry as an art form challenged the accepted boundaries of what could be done with craft materials and led to him being considered the "father of contemporary baskets". He has been described as "transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary". (Wikipedia)

Years ago things would have been repaired or manufactured by riveting. Now most everything metal is welded. In my work as an artist / blacksmith though I do use both methods favoring the rivets as they are a more traditional method of joinery.
