The experiment is attempting to maximize solar power generation for the fast charging of an electric vehicle (Gray Nissan Leaf) from a solar PV source. The battery in the Ford Transit (white van) acts as a stationary battery, simulating the utility grid load and providing additional power or storing excess power as needed to fast charge the EV. Plugged in at home in CT. Level 2 Charge Point home charging stations (EVSE)... At some point I'll probably get a rain / whether cover shade or something for the charger, not that its needed but an effort to keep the area dry and snow free in winter... Made it from Washington DC all the way to the Berkshires, no problem in our Etron... Spring 2020 we'll put solar on the garage and will be driving almost completely zero emissions when we're up in the woods.

A quiet architectural study of light and geometry — captured at the first Audi charging hub worldwide.
Designed by the Munich-based studio Designliga, the modular structure combines function, sustainability, and visual precision.
Opened to the public in December 2021, amid the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the project initially drew little public attention — its quiet launch reflecting the stillness of that time.
Built from flexible “PowerCubes”, it integrates second-life batteries from former Audi test vehicles to ensure a constant, grid-friendly charging output even from a low-voltage connection.
The concept redefines what an urban charging station can be: modular, sustainable, and welcoming — crowned with a premium lounge above the chargers.
This pioneering design received the Red Dot Design Award in the field of brand and architectural design — one of the world’s most respected honors, recognizing its fusion of architecture, technology, and user experience.
