This former communist monument - holding the remains of partisan fighters - once featured an eternal flame burning at the center point. Today it’s just a cold concrete void, not a million matches could bring back the fire.

Something that i normally don't do.

But i just have to promote this sim a little because it's BEAUTIFUL!

Revisiting local locations again. This time the idea came late during a very rainy day. It was just an hour before sunset and the last batch of rain just stopped and I had the thought of heading to the Eternal Flame for a night look. I figured the weather and late hour would all but guarantee a photo session without distractions. And yes, that planned worked. The path was wet and muddy with no cars in the parking lot and people on the trail.

I stayed somewhat late at the waterfall before waiting for the flame to be more visible as darkness settled in but this time I wanted an even darker night setting. I still had enough daylight left for the trek down to the gorge and up the creek. There was more water flowing than what I remembered from my previous summer visits. Maybe this one was still relatively early - it really still was spring - and maybe the all day rain had something to do with it. There was also a lot more debris in the creek bed forcing a more frequent back and forth between the two sides of the creek.

I could see the flame burning from far away as light was fading and the flame was burning strong despite the stronger flow of water. I had to work fast as my exposure times were around 30 seconds and I did not want to extend them much further. Even at this shutter speed the water texture disappears. Not a big deal though, the flame was to be the center of attention ...

The Magic of the Night at Eternal Flame

Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling

Do you feel my heart beating, do you understand?

Do you feel the same, am I only dreaming?

Is this burning an eternal flame? Eternal Flame

I've had a loooooong day. I've not long got home (about 9pm) - it's been draining physically and emotionally so I'm just posting this one picture before I crash into my bed. I will comment tomorrow on all your wonderful photos.

The Sphere is a large metallic sculpture by German sculptor Fritz Koenig, currently displayed in Battery Park, that once stood in the middle of Austin Tobin Plaza, the area between the World Trade Center towers in Manhattan. After being recovered from the rubble of the Twin Towers after the September 11, 2001 attacks, its fate was initially uncertain and it was dismantled into its components. Although it remained structurally intact, it had been visibly damaged by debris from the airliners that were crashed into the buildings and the collapsing skyscrapers themselves.

Six months after the attacks, following a documentary film about the sculpture, it was relocated to Battery Park on a temporary basis—without any repairs—and formally rededicated with an eternal flame as a memorial to the victims of 9/11.

"Yes

I wanna have it

Yes yes

I wanna have you now

But I can't be the lighter

I can't be the lighter

I wanna go there

Yes yes

I wanna show you how

But I can't be the lighter

I can't be the lighter

Just in case you never knew

I can't be the lighter

Of your eternal flame

Oh! Oceans, rivers, lakes

That we could swim as two

But I already own my

Own body of water

You'll follow me and

Yes, yes

I'll follow you,

It's true

But I’m already certain

I've got good directions

Just in case you never knew

I won't be becoming

I am the beginning

And I’m already

Done

These yes days

They've come and gone

Not always going to make

The same mistakes

It's too simple, I saw the truth

And truth is the terror of the one

Who feels their lace can be stained

But I cannot stain your white lace, baby

Even you cannot stain your white lace baby

No

I'll never go there

No no

I'll never take that route

'Cause I won't be the fighter

I won' t be the fighter

Don't ever push me

No, no, don't ever make me shoot

'Cause I won't be the fighter

I won't be the fighter

Just in case you never knew

I won't be the fighter

For your eternal flame

Just in case you never knew

I won't be becoming

I am the beginning

And I’m already

Done"

Eternal Flame

Granite, metal, glass, 275 x 55 x 53 centimetres

Etched into granite sides:

They grow not old as we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

This structure marks one end of the Avenue of Martyrs in Baku, Azerbaijan. It shelters an eternal flame that commemorates Black January of 1990 when more than a hundred Azerbaijani civilians were massacred following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The massacre is regarded as the major trigger for the re-establishment of the independent Azerbaijani Republic in 1991.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Polish: Grób Nieznanego Żołnierza) is a monument in Warsaw, Poland, dedicated to the unknown soldiers who have given their lives for Poland. It is one of many such national tombs of unknowns that were erected after World War I, and the most important such monument in Poland.

The monument, located at Piłsudski Square, is the only surviving part of the Saxon Palace that occupied the spot until World War II. Since November 2, 1925 the tomb houses the unidentified body of a young soldier who fell during the Defence of Lwów. Since then, earth from numerous battlefields where Polish soldiers have fought has been added to the urns housed in the surviving pillars of the Saxon Palace.

The Tomb is constantly lit by an eternal flame and assisted by a guard post provided by the three companies of the 1st Guards Battalion, Representative Regiment of the Polish Armed Forces. It is there that most official military commemorations take place in Poland and where foreign representatives lay wreaths when visiting Poland.

The Tomb was designed by the famous Polish sculptor, Stanisław Kazimierz Ostrowski.

The changing of the guard takes place every full hour, 365 days a year.
