Back streets of Mevagissey on the English coast. Once an important and busy fishing port, it is now mostly a tourist destination.

As I have said before, Google Street view is great for sitting on your couch on a rainy day and travelling the world. Well, today's car show was rained out so I thought I would visit the land of my forefathers--England. I usually set up my easel and do a Plein Air painting but today i thought I would simply do a water color.

Google Street View -- So much world, so little time.....

The fog was rolling in and out throughout the day adding to a great autumn atmosphere, along with the fog horns.

Traditional countryside hedge separating single track road from farmers' fields.

Another one from the many photos I took at this gorgeous English Vineyard! I just love the contrast of the line of vines, verse the beach hedge!

View from Shirley Heights, a restored military lookout and gun battery. The reason they chose this location is easily to understand. A spectacular view over English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour greets your eyes, showing you the scene that is often used as the iconic image of Antigua.

Clarice Cliff, if you don't know look her up. The red is actually orange, I didn't do this on my computer, I drew and painted the images and stuck them on, the back ground image is from original painting of mine, which you can see in my art set. I've used this back ground a few times in this project, it sums up English weather gray and over cast. When we have some sun in this country we all go mad. only Mad dogs and English men go out in the mid day sun.

It's a hot August day, and Ruby has no interest in anything but sleeping. In this case, on MY favourite chair.

The English Channel, also called simply the Channel, is an arm of the Atlantic Ocean that separates Southern England from northern France and links to the southern part of the North Sea by the Strait of Dover at its northeastern end. It is the busiest shipping area in the world.

It is about 560 km (350 mi) long and varies in width from 240 km (150 mi) at its widest to 34 km (21 mi) in the Strait of Dover. It is the smallest of the shallow seas around the continental shelf of Europe, covering an area of some 75,000 km2 (29,000 sq mi).

Shirley Heights, Antigua The humps of Montserrat hosted sundown out on the horizon, and the clouds held as I had hoped, to light the skies above English Harbour. A peculiar combination of landforms and sea create a sheltered anchorage in the southern reach of Antigua. It was here in 1723 that two ships of the Royal Navy safely withstood a hurricane while 35 others were wrecked; that reputation led to the establishment of Navy headquarters, and the building of the famous Nelson's Dockyard to repair ocean going vessels. The original buildings are still in use today. I knew the shot I wanted, and I hired a taxi to bring me from the north; whatever skepticism I thought I detected for my request to be on a overlook on Shirley Heights , above the Harbour, at the end instead of the beginning of the day, seemed to dissipate as the sunset intensified. He glowed with pride to show me this spectacular vista on his island while I glowed with sweat in the tropic heat, trying to capture it. From this lookout, British soldiers once monitored French and other enemy ships making any approach from French held Guadeloupe and Montserrat. I was content to monitor the day's end, as lights came on in English Harbour, already in the lee of sundown, settled into nightfall.

Shrewsbury lies in a bend of the River Severn so is surrounded on three sides by it. Two bridges link it on either side, the English Bridge and the Welsh Bridge. So called because the English Bridge is closer to England and the Welsh Bridge is closer to Wales. The English Bridge is the more ornate of the two and is in better surroundings.
