Chloride silver gelatin emulsion on watercolour paper

Gold toned.

Emulsion of nasturtium petals, orange daisy, and yellow loosestrife, placed under a digital photo transparency and exposed to the sun for 2 days in Oct 2021.

This is pretty much a gaslight emulsion with extra silver added, and produces an image is it's exposed under UV light.

Finally got around to spending some time working out the image corrections needed for printing on Polaroid B&W iType on the Polaroid Lab Printer.

Then spent some more time getting the lift process "perfected". The B&W film has a milky coating (which doesn't appear to come off) on what would be the top side which reduces contrast of the lifts. I "fixed" this by flipping my images before printing and mounting the lifts milky side down.

Very fresh prints and very hot water make the separation of Polaroid layers quite simple.

Anthotype on emulsion made from dark tulip petals. Anthocyanins appear to be pretty stable pigments, and direct sunlight for many days is required to bleach them. This long exposure was also a challenge for Epson inks that were used to make a digital positive image on inkjet transparency.

Emulsion: crushed dark tulip petals + water + little amount of ethanol

Paper: Herlitz watercolor A4 size

Exposure: one month (June-July), but few sunny days

Scanner: CanoScan 9950f

This is an example of the results of shining a light onto the shiny side of a CD on which you have placed an emulsion consisting of cooking oil and water. Just by moving your hand in front of the light you can change shapes and colors. I photographed this back in 2017, when I was experimenting with this kind of photography. Fun stuff to play with.

I have an album of these images if you enjoy abstract color and shapes. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/albums/72157625787156195

Anthotype on onion leaves emulsion. For those who have little sunlight chlorophyll emulsions might be interesting, because they need very short exposure times.

Emulsion: crushed bunch of onion leaves + 1 lid of ethanol + 2 lids of water, 3 coatings

Paper: generic watercolour SM.LT, A4 size

Exposure: 1-2 hours, afternoon, July

Scanner: CanoScan 9950f

Foma's liquid emulsion with hardener on Lokta paper 24x30 cm. Paper primed with gelatin (1%), chrome alum and ethanol (96%) before coating (as to Foma's recommendations). Didn't help much against the reactive paper impurities, one must probably seal it with varnish or some other non-water soluble treatment.

Developed in Moersch Eco 4812 (1+14), fixed in Adofix PII (hardening) and toned in Se 1+9, 60 sec.

That concludes my experiments with this Asian paper for now.

Emulsion lift and destruction. I like the different creative techniques to customise a Polaroid. The delicacy of the emulsion lift contrasts with the destruction of part of the photograph. Polaroid week’24, day 6 - number 1

While we were in Arizona, a friend and I spent some time photographing whole milk with food dye mixed in it. The photo club that I belong to, Poly Photo club in San Diego. put on a workshop recently that included a presentation by one of our members about how to create emulsion art using whole milk, food coloring and dish washing detergent. I loved seeing the results by our members, and decided to try it. Here's a link to a website that shows exactly how to do it:

Lighting stuff: I used a bare YN560-III, in manual mode, to put some light to to the emulsion. The flash was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N. I've also posted a picture of the setup that I used, because sometimes people find that to be helpful. Check the first comment down below to see the setup.

More photographs of colorful emulsions (although created differently) are in my pretentiously titled Emulsion Art album.

two autumn scene polaroids that 'failed' when I did emulsion lifts - I had the idea of 'painting' the maple leaf with the lifts - and it worked! I enjoyed the watercolour effect it gave.

By overexposing the print by a stop and using a developer with extra potassium bromide added it produces a warmtone print.
