One day, while at the inauguration of a photographic exhibition, I was going out to take the air, a blind person crossed in front of the gallery. At that moment I became aware of something very obvious: blind people cannot see photographs. For several years, I created several collections that were called "Photographs to see and touch." This is one of them. With a cutter, I scratched the emulsion on the outline of the objects that made up the photograph, as if drawing on it, creating small scratched lines that formed a relief. In this way the photograph could be looked at, but it was also possible to touch it with the fingers and feel the reliefs of the drawing. Over time I started to use metallic photographic paper, a high quality paper in the image, but that scratches very easily. I discovered that if the photograph was scratched with the cutter, with a very sharp point and very delicately, you could get stripes of different colors by tearing the three color layers of the emulsion. With Fuji Professional Lux Color Metallic Photo Paper, stripes, oranges, reds, yellows and browns colors were obtained. On the contrary, with Fuji Professional Lux Chrome Metallic Photo Paper, blue, cyan, violet and greenish colors were obtained. To get the white stripes... easy... I scratched harder, piercing the emulsion and showing the base paper of the photo, in this case, metallic paper. Subsequently, I used photographic anilines to color and intensify the colors obtained. For this photo I used Fuji Velvia 50 Professional color reversal film and Fuji Professional Lux Color metallic paper. Scan: Epson Perfection V-700 Photo.

I have seen pictures on this topic many times, but have never thought about how they were photographed. So it was a real challenge, but also a lot of fun.

Happy Slider Sunday! Here's a photo of an old abandoned farmhouse. The photo has been converted to black and white, bleached, a film emulsion overlay added, and a metal black frame.
The original photo was developed with Darktable 3.6.0. Photoshop was used for the post-processing effects.

My first was a Polaroid where you had to pull apart the emulsion sheets after waiting for the development.
My how times have changed ! Onward :-)
I was doing a polaroid lift recently and noticed a sort of dark image on the black plastic backing that gets removed in the emulsion lift process. So I scanned it (as it was much more interesting than the actual image I was attempting to lift), played with the curves in Photoshop, and arrived at this.

Scanned liquid emulsion print.
Mamiya 645 ProTL w/ M-S 120 mm/f4 macro.
Fomapan 100 in Rodinal 1+100, semistand 1 h.
Printed on Saunders Waterford CP High White (9x12") aquarelle paper coated with Adox Polywarmtone Liquid Emulsion (one layer, foam brush and heated underlay, still missed some in the bottom/left parts, but that's the charm of analog photography...).
Developed in Moersch SE2 Warm 1+20, fixed in Fomafix 1+4 and toned in Se 1+4, 30 sec.
The closest we will ever get to a new Forte Polywarmtone Paper, I'm pretty sure now (as nothing has happened on the paper front for several years). Thanks Adox for bringing us the emulsion, anyways!

This particular bird took an immediate dislike to me and flew from the other side of the lagoon to dive bomb me a couple of times before returning. It's only when they get close you realise how big they are :-)
