It's rare to find this species perched but I noticed this individual settle in a small Birch sapling and managed to approach close enough to get an image before it flew off again. It's a shame that the background is a bit messy.

I went out hoping to photograph Black Darters on heather and got lucky with this Emperor that was warming up in the morning sunshine. In my experience, this species hardly ever perches in clear view so I was really pleased to get a rare close view on this occasion.
