British-American actress Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011) began as a child star. As an adult she came to be known for her acting talent and beauty. She had a much publicised private life, including eight marriages and several near death experiences. Taylor was considered one of the great actresses of Hollywood's Golden Age.

Lastly, A Shakespeare Sunday birthday salute to the lovely—and lascivious— Elizabeth Taylor, born February 27, 1932 in Hampstead, London, to American art dealer parents. When war in Europe was certain, the Taylors relocated to Los Angeles. A natural actor, Liz began appearing in films at age ten and was starring in lead roles at 12. Taylor is as famous for her eight dud marriages—including Richard Burton twice—as for her films. And, if bedroom gymnastics was an Olympic sport, Liz, allegedly, would have taken the gold, silver, and bronze every year! She reportedly had an insatiable sexual appetite that she began indulging when she was 14! Nonetheless, a beauty (those eyes!) and a solid actor.

First Night in My New Home

Portsmouth, NH

Oh, by the way, I totally moved back to the States. Did I forget to mention that? Yeah. To those of you in the inner sanctum, this is February's news. I didn't intend to be so mysterious, but with a 5% chance I was going to be heading straight back to Japan, I opted to zip it until things were 100%. Things are now 100%, and I have a beautiful new apartment to prove it.

Even though I appear to have A Sadness here, I assure you that I am thrilled with this (somewhat) unexpected development. I was beyond exhausted after the move and was unable to muster the strength to smile. I have a lot more to tell you, and I promise I will. In the meantime, greetings from the edge of my bed.*

* May or may not begin the Portsmouth edition.

Elizabeth Taylor's mother, Sara Taylor, wrote this article about the importance of good oral hygiene in keeping smiles lovely. From one of the mid-1940s issues of DENTAL HEALTH.

Score by JOHNNY GREEN.

Green was the director of the MGM music department in the 1950s. He also conducted musicals such as AN AMERICAN IN PARIS. He did not do many other original scores but his epic RAINTREE COUNTY is a landmark in the field.

The promotional art for the cover is unusual, with Taylor looking rather contemporary. (The film is set in 1800s America). But it is in keeping with the daringly erotic nature of Ross Lockridge, Jr.'s original best selling novel.

I inherited a box of old, mostly unused postcards from a late ex. Upon going through the collection I decided to decorate my kitchen cabinets with them.
