Inspired by Elizabeth Taylor. I am the model. Photo by www.lunarlightstudios.com/cg/
When I saw this postcard, I absolutely HAD to have it. This 1960s display no longer exists but the San Francisco Wax Museum is still, in my opinion, a "must see" visitor attraction. For more info., go to www.waxmuseum.com/
Back of postcard reads:

ELIZABETH TAYLOR... Woman of enchantment and striking beauty whose
leading role in the motion picture "Cleopatra" has probably made her
better known than the original Queen of the Nile. Shown here with five of her
husbands.

Tandra Quinn appeared in only 4 motion pictures in Hollywood during the early 1950s; and yet was one of the most beautiful ladies to grace the silver screen, during the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Anyone who has seen the Science Fiction B-movie Mesa of Lost Women (US1952) will remember her ravishing dark beauty and mesmerising dance sequence, before 'being shot', in a Mexican cantina; or The Neanderthal Man (US 1953) in which she brings great emotion and pure beauty as the mute servant girl.
Born in Los Angeles, CA, USA, Tandra Quinn was screen-tested at age 11 at 20th Century Fox; auditioned at MGM for National Velvet in 1944 (the part going to the socially well-connected Elizabeth Taylor) - and in 1945 played one of a group of uncredited school girls in the Lana Turner feature,Week- End At The Wardolf .
Tandra Quinn also appeared in Problem Girls (US1953) and Girls In The Night (US1953) - and then in 1954 she retired from the screen to marry a builder, who also taught tennis to the stars,in Beverly Hills,CA,USA.
Tandra Quinn (real name Derline) was a beautiful, sensitive and talented actress - a natural star- who has remained a creative and deeply religious lady, whom Stephen B Whatley is so touched to call a friend. They share a heartfelt correspondence.
Now blonde and still lovely, she lives today in Texas, USA.
Alongside a publicity still of Tandra Quinn, c.1950, together with parts of a poster and lobby card from the 1953 cult film Mesa of Lost Women, this compilation features parts of cartoon tributes by Stephen B Whatley that include Tandra Quinn; all of which can be seen in full detail in his cartoon tributes set. In the centre is a colour copy of cartoon tribute card created for Ms Quinn.

Stephen B Whatley has always loved the classic films and their stars of The Golden Age of Hollywood; an enduring interest since his teens.
In 1981 he began researching and contacting some of the legendary survivors - he was fascinated with the idea of penetrating the celluloid cast of fame and whenever possible touching the hearts of the stars - of the people- with his art; in particular with cartoon tributes that he would create as gifts, out of his admiration.
In 1992 Elizabeth Taylor celebrated her 60th birthday with a star-studded party at Disneyland, California, USA; and hearing of the party plans, Stephen created a surprise birthday card featuring Elizabeth, her husband Larry Fortensky and their friend Michael Jackson.
Ms Taylor was so delighted that she sent Stephen the above message in March 1992. In 1994 her Los Angeles office contacted the artist to commission from him a series of cartoon tributes, for her Elizabeth Taylor AIDS foundation. His reference material supplied by Elizabeth Taylor included the charity logo; as featured here in one of the illustrations.

Thankfully, Russ is now fully aware of the nearest ER now after Elizabeth Taylor's visit as I slipped on the last step of the basement stairs and folded my foot under itself.
Why couldn't I have done it doing something cool. Like, jumping a shark on my motorcycle.
Or something similar.
It's not swollen to it's fullest at this point in the photo. It is making up for lost time and I have now lost my job as a shoe model.
After an hour and half (I know! How short is that?) I'm wearing a blue and white shoe splint and have the crutches I wanted as a kid when I found some in my friend's garage and swung myself all over the Bolivar Street in them.
I'm was much more coordinated then.
The full bag of ice in the freezer is down in quantity and I think is only good for one more injury.

In Loving Memory of one of my favorite female movie stars ever. I loved her in her first film that made her a star, "National Velvet", I cried my heart out when I was a teenager when I saw her in the movie "The Last Time I Saw Paris", I loved her in the movie, "Little Women". I also loved her in the movie "Father of the Bride". These are my favorite movies that she made in her younger years. I have each one in my collection of home movies and watch them over and over again. She was a beautiful, caring and giving, a very classy lady. She has given so much to so many. Good bye sweet lady and Rest in Peace! Some pictures of Ms Taylor: images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=image&... I cannot even begin to tell you what an amazing event this was. I am feeling inspired, awakened and so incredibly grateful to have been invited to participate. Huge thanks to everyone at 3S Artspace and the Nevada Motel for such a wonderful night.
More photos coming soon. Can't wait to share them with you.
A portrait in charcoal of Ms. Elizabeth Taylor. I tried to make it as realistic and detailed as I can using only charcoal pencils and some blending tools. Drawn on Canson Grain paper.
