In Djibouti, UNEP together with the Ministry of Urbanism, Habitat and Environment and several other partners are reducing the vulnerability to climate change by restoring various types of ecosystems, along with their associated benefits, such as water sources and flood protection. This project is regenerating degraded Acacia woodlands and mangroves, while building infrastructure to combat floods and droughts, including boreholes in dry areas and a dyke in a flood-prone urban zone.

Little Rann of Kutch Ecosystem

The Rann of Kutch is a large area of salt marshes located mostly in Gujarat (primarily the Kutch district), India and the southern tip of Sindh, Pakistan. It is divided into two main parts; Great Rann of Kutch and Little Rann of Kutch.

The Rann of Kutch is located in the Thar Desert bio-geographic area in the Indian state of Gujarat with some parts in Pakistani province of Sindh. It is a seasonally marshy region, the word Rann meaning "salt marsh", alternating with medaks, elevated pieces of land where vegetation grows.

Kutch is the name of the district in Gujarat where this region is situated. The marsh covers a huge area of around 10,000 square miles and is positioned between the Gulf of Kutch and the mouth of the Indus River in southern Pakistan. To the northeast corner of the Rann of Kutch lies the Luni River, originating in Rajasthan.

The Rann of Kutch is the only large flooded grasslands zone in the whole Indo-Malayan region. The fact that the area has desert on one side and the sea on the other provides the Rann of Kutch with a variety of ecosystems, including mangroves and desert vegetation. The grassland and deserts of the Rann of Kutch are home to forms of wildlife that have adapted to the often harsh conditions of this vast area. These include endemic and endangered animal and plant species.

Running through Kings Wood is a very long and beautiful Dry Stone Wall which stands about 6 foot high...it is smothered with Lichens, Mosses and Ferns...a veritable jungle of goodly flora and fauna..I must return and get in close!

This is a photograph of the sun, an abiotic component of this terrestrial ecosystem, shining through the trees. Unlike abiotic factors in aquatic ecosystems, abiotic factors in terrestrial ecosystems cannot create cultural eutrophication.

one node in a concept mapping project I'm working on ...

First results in my investigations on ecology and art. I made them with water, plants and animals from the highly contaminated but still very beautiful Xochimilco canals. They were gifts to people who have to take care of them by controlling the light they receive. (Or maybe they are just ecospheres).

A Bay tree supports a wide diversity of other life forms. The most visible are the ferns, trailing ivy (an invasive), mosses, and a rather large limbed poison oak vine. Invisible are the microbiota such as bacteria, fungi (mushrooms may show up later), and critters that live at earth level or below.

Who is more beautiful--the eater or eatee?

Leopards the Serengeti Masai Mara ecosystem.

Back in the 1960's there were over 200,000 lions in Africa. Today there are less than 15.000 a decline of approaching 90%. Of those 15.000 remaining lions, only around 2.500 are adult males - the target of lion trophy hunters.

- Jekyll is one of Georgia's most beautiful barrier islands and a place that has been special to me for fifty years. I particularly love the sand dunes with all of their ecosystems and interesting vegetation.

The companies in this year’s class represent the ever-growing and diversifying entrepreneurial ecosystem. Our companies come from all over the country and bring unique skills, background and expertise to Boulder this summer. While individually different, they are all fueled by an unquenchable desire to improve the world by solving big problems.

This year’s class includes companies that are focused on helping brides get the dress they dream of (while staying within their budget) to enabling any child to make music to wearables that notify a loved one if you feel unsafe to helping home buyers/sellers save money and many more. These 10 companies stood out for their drive and passion to do something great and it’s a true honor and privilege to work with them.

We’re very excited to introduce the Techstars Boulder 2015 class:

adHawk: A mobile app that provides a bird’s eye view of all your digital marketing data in one place.

Blazing DB: An SQL database at supercomputer speeds that’s incredibly easy to use.

Edify: Empower every kid in the world to make their own music.

Flytedesk: A platform for buying and selling uncollected media, starting with college newspapers.

HobbyDB: The definitive database for collectors and hobbyists to manage and monetize their collections.

MadKudu: Data science that helps sales and support teams fight customer churn.

Revolar: The world’s smartest personal safety wearable device keeps you safe anytime, anywhere.

Stryd: The world’s first running power meter that helps runners improve their performance.

TRELORA: A commission-free real estate company, replacing percentage-based commissions with one flat fee.
