This was taken on the shore of Cross (aka Steele) Lake, in Alberta.

Georgia has an especially diverse ecological landscape. This was a combination of a photographic PowerPoint and a very accessible biology lesson on what makes Georgia so special. We learned some of the basic elements of ecology and did some activities that relate to Georgia's biodiversity.

The La Jolla cliffs pose as one ecosystem, which is laced with crevices and desert-like shrubbery that provide niches for creatures such as snakes, lizards, and grasshoppers. And just below the cliffs lies a whole new beach ecosystem that is home to many other plants, invertebrates, shorebirds, and marine animals. Many of the San Diego ecosystems harbor very different characteristics despite their close proximity to one another. Photo by Natalie Popescu

Scenery along the Monument Valley loop road. Just after I shot this was a thunderclap that reverberated from the walls for quite some time. The landscape sounds even bigger than it looks.

Woodview students studied the savanna ecosystem in class and then planted grasses and other plants that are native to the savanna area.

Take a trip to our living, growing kelp forest. Walk through a tunnel at the bottom of a 188,000 gallon tank, and gaze into the kelp as though you were walking along the ocean floor. In this nutrient-rich habitat you’ll see many of the plants and animals you’d find off the Southern California coast, from leopard sharks and garibaldi, to bat rays and moray eels.
