ECMA's 2013
before we even left p.e.i., kim & i thought it would be a good idea to buy tickets to one of the marble mountain shows. saturday night seemed the most interesting. there were a few acts on the bill we wanted to catch, and figured it was do-able if we utilized the ecma shuttle.
except, whoever set up the shuttle structure must'nt have had much experience with public transportation. every single time we tried to catch the shuttle to a venue, it backfired miserably. it always took way longer to take the shuttle than it should have. even when we asked the driver. it was very annoying, especially when we were working with tight deadlines.
so, on top of cover for the pei showcase, plus tickets to the marble mountain show, we ended up having to take a taxi to marble mountain which was $10 each. could have been worse, but was annoying since we had just missed the shuttle (it drove by us as we were walking to the stop), and yet we arrived about 15 minutes early.
well. we think we arrived 15 minutes early... the schedule wasn't very clear on that.
anyway. despite all of that, i'm really glad we made it to marble mountain. (would have been nice to have gotten there sooner). the only act we really caught was pat deighan & the orb weavers. kinda funny how things work out. it was probably one of the best sets i've ever heard from them. and i've seen them a lot.

after rich aucoin we grabbed our outerwear and ran to smooth herman's for the tom fun orchestra.
my feet were thankful that this was (what i thought was) the last show of the night.
tom fun is too fun to miss!
they won:
-video of the year for 'throw me to the rats'
smooth herman's was quite the experience. i got the impression that it was a pretty big venue. the stage was really nice, and if i had a nicer lens i could have had a lot of fun with the lighting. there seemed to be several vantage spots to watch the band.
i sort of compared the place to charlottetown's myrons, possibly sealing their fate...
the next day i heard that smooth herman's had closed, myron's style.
oops.

This was my second time seeing Gordie & his Rhythm Boys and I swear to god I don't know how they did it, but this show was even better than the previous! (The previous getting a standing ovation, BTW!)

I rarely do black & white, but when I do it's cause the image had too much purple, red or blue. And in this case, I choose b&w.
East Coast Music Week 2013 - Halifax
Say Fire and Sea Caves opened up for the Diamond Minds tonight down at Headquarters, it was a good show. The Diamond Minds are gone on the road for a few months now and doing some showcasing for the ECMAs. This was their last St. John's show until August, so I felt I should go.
Though I felt wrong going down there tonight since it entailed me missing the 3rd period (and resulting overtime period) of the habs game. I don't think I missed a habs game this season besides the end of this one. The habs lost in overtime against the Ottawa Senators, but it doesn't really matter since the habs are already guaranteed a playoff spot.
As usual the habs fans were louder than the Senators fans in Ottawa, Mike Cammalleri tied the game with 10 seconds left in the 3rd period and the stadium erupted with cheers even though it was not technically a home game for the habs in Ottawa. The superstitious part of me wonders if the outcome of the game would have been different if I had stayed home to watch it.
bye bye ECMA 2010. it's been a blast!
let's do it again next year, k?
