The beautiful vibrant colours of Yunnan's northern farmlands. The crops combine with the natural red earth to make the hills here vibrant with colour.

Earth Day was first observed on April 22, 1970, when an estimated 20 million people nationwide attended the inaugural events at tens of thousands of sites including elementary and secondary schools, universities, and community sites across the United States.
The Earth is flat disc resting on the backs of four huge elephants which are in turn standing on the back of an enormous turtle, named Great A'Tuin, as it slowly swims through space.

"When you realize Earth and Heart are spelled with the same letters, it all starts to make sense..." ❤️
We were supposed to be planting corn this year but due to my husband's accident we are unable to do so. I have appreciated your positive vibes and get well messages for him. And for me. This has certainly been a journey for both of us. His recovery is coming along, slowly, but he is making gains. He is still in pain, mostly at night when he is trying to sleep, and will be on medication for awhile yet. He is in good spirits and focused on getting back to being strong and able to return to work. Life as we used to know it...
I haven't been around much, as you know, but try my best to do everything I need to do and try to enjoy a little photography and Flickr when I can. :) It is a juggle, and if I am being honest, I get easily stressed. I worry too much, I guess, not knowing what the future holds...
I hope you all had a Happy Earth Day and enjoy your weekend. :)

great show last night
While we were exploring the shoreline of Georgian Bay for 4 hours, we saw the sky and the light change dramatically several times. At this point the sun was so bright that the snow in the foreground was blown out a bit but the colours in the bay were vibrant. I did not saturate this image at all. For a moment I thought I was up in the clouds looking down at the earth below!
"Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together … all things connect."

Sunday challenge - Chinese elements.
Five Elements Theory is a Chinese philosophy used to describe interactions and relationships between things. The five elements — wood, fire, earth, metal, and water — are believed to be the fundamental elements of everything in the universe between which interactions occur...
Five Elements Theory first appeared during the Spring and Autumn Period (770–476 BC). It became widespread: mostly used in Chinese medicine, philosophy, fengshui, fortune-telling, and martial arts.
Wood separates earth (tree roots breaking up soil/rock).

Lets adventure to a different area of Virginia tonight. In this classic scene, we're in Skippers, Virginia which is basically right on the North Carolina line. A southbound CSX train is passing the Good Earth Peanut Company which has been in the Vincent family since the 1830's, now growing a wide variety of peanuts. This is a classic example of what an asset the drone can be in capturing a scene that would otherwise have been lackluster on the ground.
Happy Earth Day Everyone!!
Well... after much planning and preparation... the day that we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived!!
Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing today (22nd April 2009), we’re inviting everyone to take part in the Earth Mosaic 2009 project. Please take a photograph of any part of the world around you and upload it to the Earth Mosaic project website, anytime before the 30th April 2009. Once we have received all your uploads, we will assemble all the images into a huge tiled mosaic, showing the world map with all its oceans and continents.
Please Note: The image shown here is nothing at all like the world map image that we will use for our mosaic... and all the tiled images that make up this mosaic are from my own collection.

Dear Friend,
Stand Tall and Proud
Sink your roots deeply into the Earth
Reflect the light of a greater source
Think long term
Go out on a limb
Remember your place among all living beings
Embrace with joy the changing seasons
For each yields its own abundance
The Energy and Birth of Spring
The Growth and Contentment of Summer
The Wisdom to let go of leaves in the Fall
The Rest and Quiet Renewal of Winter
Feel the wind and the sun
And delight in their presence
Look up at the moon that shines down upon you
And the mystery of the stars at night.
Seek nourishment from the good things in life
Simple pleasures
Earth, fresh air, light
Be content with your natural beauty
Drink plenty of water
Let your limbs sway and dance in the breezes
Be flexible
Remember your roots
Enjoy the view!

This scene here is one of my favorite images that I’ve made down south along the bayou. It was one of those scenes where everything was flowing together. Juicy fall colors with the fast moving mist on the water as if ghosts or spirits were floating through the bayou. So peaceful, so serene. All the elements connecting with each other.
Haithabu / Schleswig-Holstein / Germany
Haithabu (Hedeby) was an important Viking city in the Middle Ages (8th to the 11th centuries) and now an UNESCO World Heritage Site with open-air museum. Before and after this time, it was just a beautiful piece of land.

Last year when I was here, the road all around here was being paved. This part was freshly graded and I really thought it would be paved then, too. I guess not yet. The weeds grew back and they will be around at least for now.
In the distance, they have officially broken ground and are working on the new housing developments there.
Happy Earth Day 2021!
